Too f**king close.

My HDD crashed.

HOWEVER-

About a week ago, I uploaded CC for someone to edit and test scripts in. I had initially forgotten about this and was freaking out (I have no where to back up TO, or else I WOULD) but I remembered that I had this. I HAVE lost the Ultima Weapon graphic, but not much else, because 8 days ago I was playing through and I have been since then.

I have lost a lot of stuff- we're looking into recovery, and we're 99% certain its a hardware issue rather than a software one, but rest assured that Cosplay Crisis is safe and sound. Same cannot be said for a number of my other games, but since I upload things so often for critique and opinions, I still have a lot of stuff on-hand. Hopefully I'll be able to get everything back :/. My book is on there.
I do have an older copy of said book on my school HDD though, thankfully.

Thanks for everything!!

Drawn in commemoration of 50 subscribers! CC reached the milestone on Monday or so, which is when I started the drawing. Only just finished it :D

Thank you for taking the time to subscribe to my game! Every subscriber reminds me that people are actually looking forward to this and it urges me to work harder and make the game the best I can. Thank you all for your continued support!

Progress Report: Just reached Miehlebin.
Recent Updates: Materia, Equip and Status have been edited by GubiD to no longer display the 'Shield' and 'Helmet' slots. :D. GubiD has also put a display for the Limit Break bar in! So now you can check your Limit amount in the menus, which wasn't previously possible.

Progress Report, + Call to Testers

Ok I know the last testing stage was a big kick in the pants. Unfinished, riddled with bugs, etc.

HOWEVER! I am currently doing my second-to-last playthrough. The next time I play it from start to end will be after I recieve all feedback from my testers.

Last time I recruited five, but very few of you pulled through for me :< That's ok, though. I understand that everyone's busy and what not.

In my state of affairs, just got up to the Jenova LIFE boss battle. This is possibly one of the hardest fights in the game because it requires you to pick your targets very carefully and strategize on how you'll hit them and what characters to take. I'm currently using Lulu, Levi and Kumo because Lulu has Full-Cure.
I plan on updating and reworking the final fights. Depending on my motivation levels, and if I can get the sprites done, if you complete the 'extra' bosses (the two in the Omniax Building's research floor, and Ultima Weapon) both Alicia and Arithial will have a third form. Right now, Arithial has normal and one winged angel (one wing, flying) and Alicia has her normal cream dress (will post a concept of her soon) and then her as Ultimecia. If I get the motivation going, Arithial will also have the Angelic/Seraphim form (called 'Safer' in the crappy FF7 translation) and Ultimecia will have her time-compression form, which will be slightly redesigned to fit Alicia's split forms- the original Alicia hanging upside down. If you look up Ulty's final form you'll see what I mean.
These will have very large amounts of HP and be HARDER than the optional bosses- but they will be optional in themselves. When the game asks you whether you want to head up, if you've completed the other three bosses, it'll give you three options instead of two.

But, all depends on my motivation levels.

ANYWAY! This time I'm asking for DOUBLE the amount of testers if I can get my grubby hands on them.
also would you lazy bastards write shit down you telling me there's a spelling mistake in the Ragnarok dialogue tells me nothing and leaves me trawling through pages and pages of events you gits

I'll be adding a Beta Testing Form to the beta when I upload it for testing. It's not pushy, it's just a little something to guide testers on what I need to know about. If the tester feels that anything else needs to be addressed, they are more than welcome and encouraged to write it down and tell me about it.

Ff anyone wants to check it out early, here: http://rpgmaker.net/users/SorceressKyrsty/locker/SorceressStudios_Beta_Testing_Form.doc

But anyway, please comment if you'd like to be a tester! Testers from the last run can still sign up.

Toodles~

Updates and whatnot

I've polished as best I can the first few levels (up to around...maybe Gold Saucer? probably a bit before that). I've been leaving things behind in early versions, like fades, etc, which is inexcusable.

I've updated some graphics. McDonald's now has the interior of McDonald's, and Kumo and Levi now eat...McDonalds. I've updated some old, inconsistent dialogue, and I'm looking into a common event to run before cutscenes in order to forcefully change Kumo and Levi's graphics (and once, Lulu) before cutscenes so they're not running in them. I'd have to make a before cosplay, after cosplay, and after hair/scar.

It might be a couple of days before I can get this back out to testers. Stuff like the picture graphics remaining after Crazy Motorcycle was finished was inexcusable.

I need to talk events with someone to see if I can improve hit detection in the mini-game and polish it up a bit.

Anyway, what I could desperately use right now is any feedback from those who played the Lite edition. Did you like it? Were the characters too shallow/just right/boringly detailed? How were the cutscenes? too long/just right/ too short (yeah right). Did you like the graphics? How do you think I could improve it more for future releases? How far did you get through? I love and crave feedback! Constructive feedback, please. Though if you really hated it and you like the FF's in it, I'd like to know why. Was it because of the context? etc.

Over and out! Have some little boredom sketches.

Why the hell isn't this finished?

Because right now I can't be goddamn bothered.

I would like you to draw your attention to every battle screenshot in this profile. Every sprite. Every single battle enemy in this game was made by me.

Since I have only side-quest battles left, along with limit breaks (YES, I KNOW- 6 MONTHS AND THEY'RE STILL NOT DONE.) spriting for this game is draining me to the maxiumum. I can't make monster sprites at all right now. I can sprite still, yes, that's true, but right now I'm using stuff like templates and working on stuff that isn't just goddamn extra crap.

I almost want to cut Miri or say she can't use limit breaks because she sucks. Or something stupid. I hate limit breaks.

Never again. I am never putting uber special attacks in a game again. I swear. I SWEAR.

In fact from now on I'm going to make Persona like battle set ups. Much more entertaining and no stupid uber attacks. I could sprite someone spinning around. I DID.

I'm thinking about just chucking a bunch of uber-hyped up enemies into the ruins dungeon (since they're my favourite maps) and not bothering with the other enemy sprites, then just cutting a bunch of shit and releasing. I'm not a Final Fantasy developer. I'm an indie developer. ZzzzZZZZzzzz. Maybe I'll come back to this someday and put everything I wanted to put in into it. The zombie shoot-up parts, the RE-styled clean up of Acaridae near the end, Sabin suplexing a train, Ultima Weapon, etc. Psht.

A long time ago, far, far away...

Cosplay Crisis had a very different plot.

It's 2012, early March. The country (name is never actually mentioned) is preparing for its first ever National Cosplay Day. A group of friends consisting of Kumo, Levi and Miri originally decided not to go due to the expensiveness of costumes, but in a strange twist of fate, they got costumes in time for the day. The group arrive at the fairgrounds on the day, and Kumo is dared to go into a Final Fantasy tarot tent. The woman inside uses her cards to tell his fate, each card bearing a picture from various Final Fantasies. Seeing that Kumo's cards are almost all Cloud-themed, and that his costume is of Cloud, she infects him with the Cosplay Virus- a strange virus of unknown origin that turns the infected into the character they're cosplaying. Kumo has 18 hours to find a cure for everyone that gets infected: for while he's unconcious for four hours, quite a few people came into contact with him- and all were cosplaying Final Fantasy characters. Miri and Levi find him, only to find out about the virus. The group set out on a quest to find a cure for the virus before they all end up as Final Fantasy characters in our world.
They travel around, battling creatures created by the woman who infected Kumo, and solving puzzles in order to find Materia that makes them non-infectious and gives them and extra six hours of time before the virus finishes its work. They finally find the place that the woman is hiding at, and make their way inside, with only 5 hours left for Kumo.
However once they get inside they come across an almost-Sephiroth, who promptly steals all the anti-infec materia off of you. Kumo immediately stops responding to his name, only listening to the name Cloud, and Levi's face starts bleeding heavily from a gash that was slowly working its way across his face throughout the game- but without the anti-infec materia the cut instantly become's exactly like Squall's. Kumo gets into a vicious duel with the almost-Sephiroth, while the woman above cackles madly.
Miri screams at her to cure them, and that's when she reveals that even if she does- even if she removes all traces of the virus from their system- everything that's happened to them is permanent. (Kumo will always have spiky hair- har har) In a fit of rage, Kyer, Shadz and Lulu attack her, while Miri and Levi join Kumo in fighting Sephiroth. They defeat them, and in her dying words, the woman cures them all of the virus, everyone who was infected.

Kumo wakes up in his bed at home, with Miri and Levi sitting on his bed. Levi is looking intently at the wall, facing away from Kumo, but Miri is watching him with great intensity.
"Wow. What a crazy dream" he mutters
"What did you dream about?" asks Miri.
"I dreamt that I caught a virus that turns us into the characters we were cosplaying"
Levi laughs quietly, then turns to face him.
"That...wasn't a dream, Kumo"
"YOU MEAN I HAVE SPIKY HAIR?!!?! WHAT THE ^*%?!" shouts Kumo. "DOES THAT HURT STILL!?" (refering to the plainly obvious gash on Levi's face)
"No need to scream, and no, it doesn't hurt" replies Levi.
"How long have I been out?"
"Well, about 3 days, but for quite a while you were waking up thinking you were Cloud, which was expected since...the virus kind of finished its work on you"
"Eh?!"
"Don't worry"

END OF THE GAME ^_^.
Thinking about a secret ending if you find every single character, however if you do there's an extra two boss battle fights at the end of the game with only two members in each fight. However, one of each two members is a summoner, so...^_^.

This was written back in March 2009. As I've been reminded several times by my sister, Cosplay Crisis was originally meant to be a short, shallow fun game to take a break from the other things I was working on. At the time, it was actually Final Fantasy VIII-2 (now cancelled, no-duh) and Reaper (which has become my novel Night Howl-temp title).

As you can see a lot of the stuff in this original has been changed, though some of it I forgot about- namely the anti-infection materia, which I probably should've included. Other things remain, such as a lot of the gameplay from heading to the fairgrounds, the idea behind a 'fortune reader', etc. The final bosses have also remained the same, ironically enough.

Of course, this worked for a parody game, but when Cosplay Crisis turned serious it just didn't apply anymore.

So most of it doesn't. In fact, the fact that Kumo turned into Cloud fully doesn't apply anymore either. After Cosplay Crisis, where he spends the most of the game resembling Cloud, he starts wearing a beanie and a totally different outfit that has nothing to do with Cloud. He also starts wielding both the Ultima Weapon and the Buster Gun at the same time in battle.

(this applies because in a secret secret sequence I will make someday all the characters are in original outfits with new facesets and stuff).

'Lite' Edition Removed

It's been up for far too long. Currently working on finishing off the rest of the limit breaks since I cut down the total number to 3 each rather than 4, however, Kumo still gets 4.

The limits that didn't make the cut:
Kumo: None. Ends the game with Braver, Blade Beam, Meteor Rain and Omnislash.
Levi: Fated Circle. Ends the game with Rough Divide, Blasting Zone and Lionheart.
Lulu: Rapture and the End. For obvious reasons. Ends the game with Full-Cure and Wall.
Kyer: Trinity Cure. Ends the game with Trinity Rush, Invisible Full Moon, and Wishing Star.
Shadz: Dreamslasher. Ends the game with Beast Flare (Galian Beast) Death Gigas (Livewire) and Enigmatic Pulse (Chaos).
Miri: I never decided on a full list for her, but it is now Beat Rush, Dolphin Blow, and Premium Heart (I'm just going to have her kicking the enemy repeatedly).
This basically leaves me to do:
-Wall
-Omnislash
-Lionheart
-Enigmatic Pulse
-Dolphin Blow
-Premium Heart.

Which, hopefully *cross your fingers!* shouldn't take me long because I already have a lot of the graphics. Then it's just monster sprites and back to testing >.>

RPG Cliches

1.Nominal Rule
2.The Compulsories
There's always a fire dungeon, an ice dungeon, a sewer maze, a misty forest, a derelict ghost ship, a mine, a glowing crystal maze, an ancient temple full of traps, a magic floating castle, and a technological dungeon.
3.Garrett's Principle
4.Hey, I Know You!
You will accumulate at least three of these obligatory party members:
>The hero's best friend, who is actually much cooler than the hero.
>The grim, selfish mercenary who over the course of the game learns what it means to really care about other people.
The previous two are the same person (Levi)
>The weird bonus character who requires a bizarre series of side quests to make them effective (with the ultimate result that no player ever uses this character if it can be avoided.) <- Zane is actually useful and the sidequest is pretty straightforward.
5.Hey, I Know You, Three!
Furthermore, expect to encounter most of the following obligatory non-player chararcters (NPCs):
The NPC who has a crush on another NPC and can't quite work up the nerve to tell him or her, so instead tells every other person who wanders by about it at great length.
A group of small children playing hide-and-seek.
The group of young women who have formed a scarily obsessive fan club for one two of your female male party members.
6."Silly Squall, bringing a sword to a gunfight..."
However this rule applies only by half, because Kumo actually owns a gun.
7.MacGyver Rule
8.O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Melfice Rule)
If the male hero has an older sibling, the sibling will also be male and will turn out to be one of the major villains. If the hero has a younger sibling, the sibling will be female and will be kidnapped and held hostage by the villains.
9.Dimensional Transcendence Principle
10.IDKFA
The basic ammunition for any firearms your characters have is either unlimited or very, very easy to obtain. This will apply even if firearms are extremely rare. Haha Buster Gun XD
11.Indestructible Weapon Rule
12.You Can't Kill Me, I Quit (Seifer Rule)
13.And Now You Die, Mr. Bond! (Beatrix Rule)
They're both in the game by the way.
14.Zap!
15."What are we going to do tonight, Vinsfeld?"
16.Zelda's Axiom
17.Midgar Principle
Nuh-duh.
18.Short Attention Span Principle
All bookshelves contain exactly one book, which only has enough text on it to fill up half a page.
19.I Don't Like Gears Or Fighting
There are always giant robots. Always.
20.Zeigfried's Contradiction
Just because someone is weird doesn't mean they're important.
21.But They Don't Take American Express
22.Apathy Principle
23.Xenobiology Rule
The predatory species of the world will include representatives of all of the following: giant spiders, giant scorpions, giant snakes, giant beetles, wolves, squid, fish that float in midair, gargoyles, golems, carnivorous plants, chimeras, griffons, cockatrices, hydras, minotaurs, burrowing things with big claws, things that can paralyse you, things that can put you to sleep, things that can petrify you, at least twenty different creatures with poisonous tentacles, and dragons. Always dragons.
24.Dungeon Design 301
All "puzzles" in RPG dungeons can be sorted into one of the following types:
finding some small item and sticking it into a slot;
pushing blocks (rocks, statues) onto switches;
pulling switches or levers to open and close doors;
learning the correct order/position of a group of objects;
entering a certain combination of doors;
something involving a clock or elevator;
25.Edison's Lament
26.Selective Invulnerability Principle
27.I'm the NRA (Billy Lee Black Rule)
28.Three Females Rule
29.Perversity Principle
30.Law of Mooks
31.The Miracle of Automation
32.Seventh Inning Stretch (Elc Rule)
34."Mommy, why didn't they just use a Phoenix Down on Aeris?"
Don't expect battle mechanics to carry over into the "real world."
35.All The Time In The World (Rinoa Rule)
Unless there's a running countdown clock right there on the screen, you have as long as you want to complete any task -- such as, say, rescuing a friend who's hanging by one hand from a slippery cliff edge thousands of feet in the air -- no matter how incredibly urgent it is. Dawdle or hurry as you will, you'll always make it just in the nick of time. Aka the entire plot of Cosplay Crisis.
36.Gilligan's Prescription
37.The Best-Laid Schemes
39."So, Andross, you reveal your true form!"
You will have to kill the evil villain at least twice at the end of the game. First the villain will look like a person or some creature and be rather easy to kill. Then he will grow to about 50 times the hero's size and be much harder to kill.
40.Weapon Rule
There's always a hidden creature who is much harder to defeat than even the ultimate bad guy's final, world-annihilating form. It's lucky for all concerned that this hidden creature prefers to stay hidden rather than trying to take over the world himself, because he'd probably win. As a corollary, whatever reward you get for killing the hidden creature is basically worthless because by the time you're powerful enough to defeat him, you don't need it any more.
41.Know Your Audience (Vyse Rule)
Every woman in the game will find the male lead incredibly attractive.

Given this is based off of Final Fantasy, you shouldn't be surprised.

Haven't really done much. But I do have plans on extending and adding some scenes in order to give the plot more consistency and shed more light on Yagami Atsureki rather than him being mentioned twice and showing up for a boss fight at the end.
That's just bad writing.

Working on Intro/Deciding a Few Things

Someday!

Right now I'm just fixing up stuff, but I have a question for everyone.

How would you feel if I cut out limit breaks? I'm thinking that maybe I define classes a bit better through limit breaks; so Kumo would get Blade Beam and Omnislash, Levi would get Rough Divide and Lionheart (single enemy and all enemy attacks), while Lulu would get Wall and Full Cure, and Kyer would get Trinity Rush and Invisible Full Moon. It would mean less work for me, but less variety of individual attacks...it's just that I am really struggling with getting all the limit breaks done. Cutting them down would be a massive relief for me.

I don't really have much to give you. My motivation got massively owned by my failure to complete the game by the valedictory game drive deadline and the fact all I have left is GRAPHICS, GRAPHICS, GRAPHICS, GRAPHICS.

Huge, huge buzzkill. Still trying to build up the want to work on the game.

Toodles. Have a Kumo in a pretty floral bonnet.

*points to the Download button*

Cosplay Crisis LITE edition is up (released for Valedictory Game Drive). I'll be adding the manual to the downloads section shortly and updating the page in relation to controls.

It's fairly unpolished but should be playable all the way through. All limit breaks that are actually obtained throughout the game are in full working order. All sidequests beside two can't be finished(the sidequest to get your grubby hands on the Lionheart (not the skill) and the sidequest to get Zane are in full working order).

It's basically a full game without all the extra perks but I'm hesitant to declare Cosplay Crisis completed. Namely because there's still so much more I want to do.

Keep your eyes out for the full edition. It's coming.
