On the same day within the same hour, two souls suffered grave misfortune.
One is the illegitimate prince of a great empire; an idealist, strong and true, his desire for change lead to his demise. The other is a great demon king; though intelligent and wise, his complacency and lack of vision resulted in his downfall. Though the two are worlds apart, both figuratively and literally, they would soon after meet and, in their mutual desperation, form a demon's pact.

The significance this one stroke of chance would make upon the world would soon become apparent...

PERSONA 2 IS COOL

I made a prison and Karsuman and I think it looks decent+.

It's a prison and you have to escape but it's made to be "escapable" so there are lots of dead bodies because they got trappedified in the butt. What better way to deal with Crafty McRogue types that just break out? Kill 'em dead!

Craze was a bit off in his description of Rucian. Rucian is actually not native to Ignacia, but of a country named Tartolia, and the kind of slavery he experienced is not the same as the one that was present in Ignacia. The slavery Rucian experienced was of the traditional sort. The slavery present in Ignacia is akin to indentured servitude, where you pay off a debt by submitting yourself to labor for a number of years, becoming property of a master. The key difference is, is that when you pay off that debt you can go free, but is still subject to all sorts of abuses since you can certainly mistreat these individuals - they are still property. The VanClaus (radicals) and some other groups supported this system due to it enforcing a stricter protocol for handling debtors and a 'moral' way to have a neverending supply of cheap labor. If money is involved, there will always be debtors.

Thanks for the description about the slavery issue. It does sound in-depth and quite well done! Same for the emperor's actions. Btw, I suscribed to this page.

You have some degree of control in how Arian/Granada's development occurs...
A chance to turn the main character "evil"? I can't wait! :D

You don't want to know. =)
Actually, I'm aware that America is quite divisive and lacks a middle ground in almost everything, politics included. I won't be surprised if the country actually breaks up into different countries in the distant future, 50 to 100++ years down the road. But I don't really know how the situation came about nor do I have the time to find out more about it. =P So, I just don't really care.

I do wish the spell for resurrecting a dead ally would come earlier in the final game. Or maybe not. =P

Also, Insane mode is impossible. I tried a few times and the freaking enemies as always come first but with double the speed and damage rate. @#$@#$#@$ I couldn't even make it through the first battle: before I could cast my third spell, I died. Did anyone manage to play through Insane, though? ^^;;

Also, I broke your game a bit. =P The description of type of "current state of attack" Nalah's weapon has no longer shows. Also, halfway through the battle, I couldn't select the monster and the battle ended without me killing the Loaded Cart. :p Here's to hoping the issues don't persist. xD

Also, Nalah or Rucian is broken. Something about skill effects #2 line 621. I know this 'cos I double-checked the order of their hits and Rucian came next. I'm wondering if it's his improved Cleave. Still, I doubt any of this is useful 'cos this demo is superbly old.

I see the slavery issue as one which mirrors human egoism, apathy, extreme conformity and many other dislikable traits. I know that people dislike to change but not so sure if I'd ever list it as under "being conservative". Still, it depends on how you guys define liberalism and the other stands, in terms of the different cultures present in the game.

Btw, I wonder how you all intend to present the issue of extreme reforms. *grins* From personal observations, such measures tend to be catastrophic if applied wrongly and without taking all the factors into consideration. Will the game take place 5 to 10 to 20 years after some of the reforms have been implemented, in order to show the long-term effects? I know that extremity breeds radicalism and uprooting people from their own values, culture, etc. can create generation gaps, massive economic problems, etc. in the long run.

The emperor's reckless liberal bent has significant consequences, both economically and socially.

So, what does Granada intend to do with poor Arian's body when he's not busy? Party out all day, in his spare time? Then will Arian turn slightly demonic or something, even after Granada has left? Wait, don't tell me! =) I'd rather wait for the game.

Erm, I'm not from the US btw, so I don't care about democrats or republicans.

The 'list of dead characters' (as it were) at endgame in this game's story is pretty lengthy and has a fairly equal distribution on the political gamut. It's also worth noting that extremism (on both ends of the spectrum) is differentiated from more moderate/rational forms of belief, and liberalism and conservatism are more or less mutable ideas that change and morph depending on time and place. In the end, the characters in AW that turn out the most alive and 'intact' are the non-extremists and non-idealists; the 'cynics' and moderates that are willing to question and reaffirm their own beliefs as much as they do the beliefs of others, and that, more generally, keep a healthier distance from political rhetoric and discourse.

And well, the understanding that being a politician is far more of an artform than it is about rational/reasonable/consistent political beliefs.

Should this game ever be finished, I don't think you need to worry too much about REPUBLICANS BADD, DEMOCRATS GOODD. If I really wanted to use something as a liberal sounding board, there are plenty of places on the internet where I can do that.

Oops, didn't see this reply before I posted but very interesting indeed. :)

It's good to be a bit idealistic but too much can backfire on everyone.

Erm, I'm not from the US btw, so I don't care about democrats or republicans.

Anyways, well, best of luck to both of you! :)
K, that sounds good. :) You're right that being too extreme is no good. I mean: there are a lot of radical peace groups on both right and left, now classified as "terror groups".

Yeah, I'm not of the stand that being "conservative/liberal/moderate/whatever" means they're wrong. Besides the ideology, the consequences and impact of their actions and decisions are important too. And then there's the character of the person too. And even then, people who once espoused liberal views could turn into conservatives 'cos they're unable to change and stuck in some long-gone past or 'cos the world has moved on and perhaps even developed their own ideologies.

Sorry, this reply is turning out too lengthy. :)

The party members are pretty evenly split between liberal and conservative. Arian, the main character, is quite liberal, but he is not fully in control of his mind now that Granada is present, so he doesn't count. Elesca is very socially conservative, Aladhi is extremely liberal, Chesha is best described as libertarian. Rucian is odd in that he is generally conservative but, being an ex-slave, is not exactly fond about slavery issues. Newcomer Faria (not in the demo) is pretty liberal. Nalah is apolitical/pacifist.

So, basically, you will get many viewpoints. Certain characters will villify other characters, but it is, in the end, not wholly "liberal > conservative." While I admit that there will probably be a lot of dead conservatives by the endgame, there is a theme of balance to the game. If you are extreme, it's hard to work things out. (Unless, of course, you're a demon.)
Backburner? Oh well. :) This game sounds interesting 'cos it employs the typical route of "saving the world/place" but the idea of having a demon seems to put a morally ambigious spin on the writing. Of course that depends on how you guys are approaching the concept of "demon": is it the traditional type of "all demons are evil" or "demons = yet another race that's villified for no good reason" or something else, etc.

Aha, you're right! Can't believe I missed it. ^^;; Then again, I wasn't very awake during my first playthrough. Oh wait, I recall now: yeah, you can also see what Artifacts add what abilities under Action. @#$#@$@

Btw, I like that it's quite easy to adapt to this system unlike some games where there are a heckload of stats + data and they don't really tell you anything.

Hmmm, hope the writing isn't about conservative is always wrong and liberal is always right. Most likely, it's something else, right?

Wow, this is old. Cool that you tried it though!

There's no story. It's a battle demo; it's meant to shove mechanics in your face. We would probably allow respecializing, yes, even though this game is on the backburner for a few months/years. If I remember correctly, you can check the turn order by scrolling down the command menu; it's been a while, though.

As for save slots, sure. Don't know why we didn't have that in the first place!
This is kinda cool. I haven't got to the story part yet, still stuck in the damn dungeon.

Btw, for the final game version, you guys might want to add in some sort of in-game manual or menu that'll add in all these explanations for all the stats/classes and also, introduce some of the classes/specialties slowly. Of course, I'm familiar with most stats but the amount of data = holy crap and uhm yeah, boggles my mind totally.

And outside of the combat screen, you might want to show the players which Artifacts add what spells/features.

Also, is it possible to allow people to redo any screw-ups they've made(like choosing the wrong class) by say... trading in XP or a significant amount of money or trading in an item of value? 'Cos I for one, like to experiment a lot and sometimes, I don't recall some of those RPG mechanics. Or I'm in a rush and make a poor decision. And sometime down the road, if I find out I screwed up majorly in some of the stats/class build, I wouldn't want to redo a huge section of the game but instead, I'd be willing to take a penalty.

And yes, can you all indicate on the combat screen who is up next, in order of turns? And also, indicate when "buffed tokens" are "overwritten" by other buffed tokens?

Finally, why do some of the newer games only have 4 save slots? Please give it more slots? =)

Sorry, I sound really demanding. ^^;;

Wow, thanks for the positive response! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Karsu and I went insane making it for you! =D
I played this game for 2 and 1/2 hours Saturday night. I haven't been that indulged in an RM game in a LONG time. The battles, the skillset, and the character progression were just SO well done. I loved the entertaining dialogue to; It was especially refreshing after playing serious game after serious game.

Too bad the game crashed on me after I killed the chick with the fire whip in that one boss battle.

I would've continue playing to, but I realized I was playing it in the .RAR file. =( Oh well. I'm pushing the subscribe button with all my might here.
A manga (it's actually called Kuroshitsuji) about a young earl making a contract with a demon so that the earl can take revenge on whoever's responsible for starting this one fire that ruined his life.
I have no idea what Kuroshit is.
This storyline sounds kinda Kuroshit-inspired. Awesome. :D
Or the setting was based on Europe and imaginations and/or poor communication/comprehension lead to imaginations doing weird things. There's a dozen ways something stupid got out including a weird coincidence between Max and myself believing the same thing.

At least that misconception has been cleared up!

I don't think we even have any world wars planned. Romance of the Suikogre Tactics is about war, but only between two countries. Maybe you heard something about how that occurs at the same time as AW, and thought that meant this game was involving in that war or something?

The thing I think I remember definitely said specifically "World War" (I don't know if it was WWII or WWI).

Of course the thing I think I remember is also apparently impossible to find. But thanks to GRS I at least feel slightly less like I'm going crazy.
Honestly I do not remember that and have no idea!

The best I can say is that AW and other games that take place in that universe (like Harbinger or V&V) tend to focus on lands similar to colonial Europe and their associated colonies, and the renaissance, enlightenment and contemporary eras.
I remember a mention somewhere by somebody at some time that this game took place in Europe in the early-mid 20th century. Or my memory's fucking up; I'm not sure which.

WHAT?

No, like I read on the forum that this game was set during World War 2! It might have been another Krazuman or Crazegame I read that factoid about but man, you fellows are quick to make some weird assumptions!

In fact, the whole reason I posted that was that all of the flavor-text on these game pages seems to indicate it does not take place on Earth so I did not understand how someone was saying it was set during WWII.

Edit:
I cannot even find the forum post that caused me to make that comment. Maybe I am losing my mind?
