Beyond the Labyrinth! Wow!
From what I have played of Beyond the Labyrinth it can be described in three words “Oh My God!”
Beyond the Labyrinth had a lot of ups and a few downs, and overall it was great. The story could have been better, but it was nice and simple. One thing that caught me right away was the soundtrack. I am a sucker for a good soundtrack, and I don’t know where this music came from, but the title theme was incredible. A thing that I thought was both cool and sort of lame at the same time was the use of dialogue to describe what the characters are doing. It was nice knowing what the NPC’s were doing, but, like in books, too much description can be a bad thing. The game takes place inside of a small little village directly to the north of an underground cave called the Labyrinth. Inside of the Labyrinth are monsters which guard a great treasure, but I didn’t even make it to the first boss.
Basically you take the role of, well, you. The NPCs constantly talk to you in the second person giving it a different feel, which I like. You then get to go to the Guild HQ and create your party! You have a great multitude of choices to pick from and I made a nice party consisting of a Shaman, Crusader, Dirge Knight, and Hunter which I liked, unfortunately the game didn’t like it. One of the downfalls of the game is the battle system. It’s not that I don’t like it, because I do, but it’s the fact that it is SO HARD!! I don’t know if it’s the party I chose or it’s just that way, but after the first fight, I had wasted all of my potions, and my healer (Crusader) was all out of magic. So I returned to the main town and healed, bought some new equipment, and returned to the Labyrinth. Unfortunately in the middle of my second battle ever my game just shut down! I was mad, but not super mad. Basically the only real thing that knocks the game down was the super hard battles, the fact that I couldn’t buy new equipment and all of the description the NPCs give you.
