Part One Release

Hey all! It's been quite a while, but after being nudged by various folks over the years, I've decided to put out a release of Everlasting Journey. It contains Part One, and the opening chapter of Part Two.

It's certainly had problems, but I would consider what's at least in there now to be "complete" - with the exception of some existing rips I was honestly too tired to replace in my latest pass/playthrough. I'll be adding some guides for it, but here are some immediate things that come to mind:

1. Controller suppport - currently, it's just XInput, so any Xbox controller will work out of the box. Other controllers (PS4, etc) will need to be mapped using some other utility.

2. Achievements / Game Jolt Integration - Make a Game Jolt account & jot down your "Game Token". Hit Shift+Tab in-game, or hit the Guide button on the Xbox controller, sign in with your account name & token, and it should just work from there.

3. Treasure / Pots & Barrels - Treasure chests found are tallied by the end, pots & barrels are not.

I hope y'all can get some enjoyment out of it! It's been tested pretty thoroughly, but let me know if there's any weird bugs.

The game frezes in Paul's Castle roof scene after the duel :/ It has happened 3 times already

Sheeeiiiit. What's the error? Is it looking for a graphic?

Edit: I was able to play from that area through the end of the demo from both Ejourney.exe and the original RPG_RT.exe. I also renamed the RTP folder in-case it was looking for a file there. I sent you a PM. We'll continue there until I get a new patch out (if needed).

Edit 2: If you hit the shift key during one of the last cutscenes at the wrong time, you could potentially crash it. I'll include a fix in the next update.

One concern of mine was that in Active mode the monsters, especially in the Tower, are often so fast they get in multiple hits before the heroes can even move, and use debilitating spells fairly often. However, my characters ARE wearing fairly heavy armor, which lowers Agility... hmm. One question, though- does AGL affect how fast the ATB gauge fills?

Honestly, I'm having some trouble surviving here. . .
Don't play active mode. It's extremely bugged.
and yes, AGL affects the ATB gauge and is the most broken important stat in the Rm2k3 system.
hey, i'm playing this game, it's friggin awesome. only one prob - i'm stuck on the bit where you gotta move the blocks in the mines where it says you can only have 3 orbs glowing at one time. what do i dooo?
also on the topic of bugs etc, i've found that
1. in the firam palace before you kill the prince, if you stand to the right of the red flobo and talk to him, you're unable to do anything and you have to alt+f4 the game.
2. in firam town centre when athesis gets kidnapped and the four guards are blocking the way to the airship, if you leave the town to the right you're unable to start the fight with the guards or do anything because the sequence of events isn't triggered. so you have to quit the game and start from the last save point.
also i seem to be occasionally getting a problem where i'm able to walk anywhere - meaning all of the tiles are passable including all of the black tiles, and event tiles are hard to trigger.
i don't necessarily think this is a problem with everlasting journey, probably just rpg maker itself.
i'm running it in active mode and i see from the post above that it has a lot of bugs? i'm a newbie to the rpg maker 2003 program, so i don't really understand the difference between the active and wait modes.
could this be the problem?
Holy moses. I'll try to answer these.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it! Each block in that room has an orb on it, and they glow when you activate them. When you activate all of them (I think there are 5? maybe 6), the middle door opens and reveals that hint. Logically, that's the first thing the player is going to do. To open the other 4 doors, you have to find the right combination of 3 switches/orbs to activate. The only way to advance is to activate door #4. 2 of the other doors have treasure, and the 3rd one has a battle or something. If you still need help, I can look up the orb combinations when I get home and PM them to you.

Hmm, I didn't think you could stand to the right of him, but I'll have to take a look at it again. I'll make sure it's fixed in the next version.

I don't know how you're breaking my game so bad, but I didn't think you could move that far right during that sequence. :P

I'll look into it and fix it though.

What area does this happen in? I think I've only seen it in Raanan village, but I thought I fixed that bug.

"Wait" is for pussies, and "Active" is used if you're hardcore. I think it only affects how soon enemies attack you during battle, but there's really not much of a difference between the two. I think it was supposed to mimic the active/wait command in chrono trigger, where in Wait mode, enemies don't attack until you've made a move. This isn't the case in 2k3, and shouldn't affect where you can and can't go outside of battle.

Hm i Wonder if i can pul somethi goff here/

No, it matches the even earlier Active Time Battle system from FFIV onward. Essentially, in "Wait " mode, enemies don't attack while you're selecting options in the menu, while in "Active" they can attack at any time. Your speed and agility affect who gets to move first and how often, and quicker characters often get more chances to attack. That's why your monsters are so often easily beating up on the characters, who're wearing heavy armor and are fairly slow.

OKl, I'm going to try this with "Wait" but i want it fixed by part 2! Remember, it's ATB!

I'm at Hiram- how do I get the King to see me? I've waited, slept in the inn, etc. OR is this the end of the first part?

Long as your got your website blog going, rpgmaker.net is going.......

Remember when I actually used to make games? Me neither.

Too many enemies use too often status ailment spells. It annoys me when a monster uses Chaos on me, I wait for few turns, an enemy uses Chaos again on me!
Yeah, that's one of the things I'm going to look into balancing in the next version.

I started the game all over again. This time I'm going to keep the stupid relic that prevents Chaos, instead of selling it.

Oh whoah, I just realized I forgot to reply to your post. Are you still stuck at this part? You need to walk into the Pub (bottom/right area of the castle), and it will enable a cut-scene. After that, you can walk into the main audience chamber to talk to the king. If you didn't get the chance, explore around the castle a bit to get acquainted with everything.

You're maybe about 1/2-2/3 done with Part 1.
Oh for further clarification, I think you need to hit enter near the empty table of the bar to enable the cutscene.

There should have been a line of dialogue that was basically like "let's grab a table..." That should have been your main clue. I'll make it a little more obvious in a future release.

That was a good game, quite hard at times!
/me sings "everlasting journey" to the tune of the Neverending Story theme
Completed the game.
The ending was like omg. You are gonna beat master of the wind record of six year development at this rate easily. But MOTW was a seriously awesome game so perhaps your shall be too in like 2017....Got another reason to live at least that long then.
Concerning the game itself. I have to admit I really liked though those few missed quests cuz I had no idea that Paul would be last fight damn.
Monsters were quite interesting with all the can t damage them part whcih forced people to change tactics with magic and so on. Though there sure was not enough mp
for such needs. On the other hand you saved the situation by creating party mp potions which combined with party hp were really making the whole thing easier. A little too easy but I won t complain. Few instant kills with bosses really pissed me. The biggest annoying fight was with those two castle elites and it was the only I lost. They both attacked the same target taking it out even with max hp. I sure felt overpowed and so many feathers wasted omg.
I think that making bullets missing insects was a good logical choice though it pissed me of at first.
Overally I hope you shall make another game.
Hey, I did a LT of the first 15 minutes of your game. Check it out here: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/10470/

EDIT: I'll be doing the rest of the game as well. Keep checking back.
