Part One Release

Hey all! It's been quite a while, but after being nudged by various folks over the years, I've decided to put out a release of Everlasting Journey. It contains Part One, and the opening chapter of Part Two.

It's certainly had problems, but I would consider what's at least in there now to be "complete" - with the exception of some existing rips I was honestly too tired to replace in my latest pass/playthrough. I'll be adding some guides for it, but here are some immediate things that come to mind:

1. Controller suppport - currently, it's just XInput, so any Xbox controller will work out of the box. Other controllers (PS4, etc) will need to be mapped using some other utility.

2. Achievements / Game Jolt Integration - Make a Game Jolt account & jot down your "Game Token". Hit Shift+Tab in-game, or hit the Guide button on the Xbox controller, sign in with your account name & token, and it should just work from there.

3. Treasure / Pots & Barrels - Treasure chests found are tallied by the end, pots & barrels are not.

I hope y'all can get some enjoyment out of it! It's been tested pretty thoroughly, but let me know if there's any weird bugs.

anti virus Mcafee detect a virus when i open the game ! Please check
False positive. Enigma Virtual Box is used to package the app, and it stems from that. I can assure you it's not a virus.

Windows 10 Defender flagged the executable as a virus, as well. It started with a ! which apparently means it is auto-flagged thanks to some sort of machine learning algorithm. Seems like an obvious false positive, but I thought I'd let you know.

PepsiOtaku was a huge contributor to dynplugins over the years
to the point where a few times over the last few years
peeps keep asking me when would the next demo for EJ would be coming out.
So it was huge deal we got a release this year.
It was a very big deal.

So to those reading this, when you get a chance, make sure to click nominate
and select a couple of misaos for this one. :thumbs up:

Thought you'd like to know this happened.

EDIT: I really like this silly game!

Same thing happened to me I dunno if it is the same error:

- I got a 'script error' when trying to open the chest during the avalanche part (the one with note "RUN you fool". A guy with a red cap briefly appears on a space backround) but then che game crashes! If I ignore the chest nothing happens and the game continues normally.

Frankly, I'm just excited to see work is still being done on this project.

I'm excited that you're excited! I take a lot of hiatuses, but at this point, quitting isn't an option for me!
Haha how dare you use my words against me!

In all seriousness though, I haven't been working on this for over a year anyway... soo... yeah it might be dead this time. It's honestly hard to sum up my feelings about this game because so much has been put into it, but it's got too many borrowed/hacked together resources still, a lot of hacky code built in a modified pirated engine that can't be released commercially, and a story that while goes some cool places, one that I'm bored of. In short: I'm tired and needed to work on something completely different!

Right now I'm working on a weird racing game that I've been writing from the ground up in C++ (started in Aug 2016). It's not even remotely an RPG so I haven't created a game page for it, but it'll at least have a story eventually where some of that RPG stuff might come back. I can't see myself revisiting EJ anytime soon though.

I don't have a devlog for it yet, but post screenshots on twitter occasionally: https://twitter.com/pepsiotaku

Just think of it as a tech demo then. Finish the demo, and people can play the game with all of its features. If they like it, if they don't, that's kinda up to them.

Better that, than "I spent a ton of time on plugins, but now I'm not gonna show anyone how it all works together cuz it's pirated and I can't sell it." Most commercial games, I pay the money and want the money back because it was less game than it cost. Why I don't use Steam anymore.
I'd definitely play a new EJ demo.
In my experience, if you are non some sort of "dead zone" with your project, a good feedback from players can get you back on track

I just took a glance at twitter for the Car Game - I don't want to spoil it for these guys, but everyone else should check this out as well, It's pretty crazy man, really impressive!

Haha thanks. It's definitely been a lot of fun and has been advancing my pixel art & programming skills.

Well I seemed to have fixed the leakages. I actually don't know for sure if it was considered a memory leak, but it seemed to be an issue with my OpenGL plugin, and updating/compiling one of the libraries fixed it (SFML 2.3.2 > SFML 2.4.2 for TDM GCC 4.8.1).

So in addition to being more or less okay with releasing an EJ demo now, I can also release that DynRPG plugin!

Awesome! Can’t wait to play it!! ❤

Everlasting Journey, along with DragonHeartMan’s “Starless Umbra”- these games are sort of a testament to the amount of creativity that’s possible with rpgmaker2003.

I’m not gonna lie - It’s crazy to see how far you’ve guys have come over the years from GamingW, just from working with rpgmaker2003 and how far you guys were able to push it. It’s also really cool, how you guys have taken what you learned from these experiences and applied them to new projects in order to pursue bigger and better things.

I’ll keep my eyes peeled on GameJolt as well - Like, I may not post here on RMN much, but I do check in on progress from time to time.

Keep us posted on any further developments PepsiOtaku. This is crazy good stuff.
