"He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." - Proverbs 28:13

Carlsev Saga: Episode II was the intended sequel to Carlsev Saga. My obsession with mapping started around this time, and it shows in the sheer amount of large areas I made with this sophomore project. Development lasted for most of 2008 until it stopped sometime in early 2009; I haven't really touched it since. Most of the mapping is complete and can be viewed in the demo files. The demo itself has 3-4 hours of playable content. On the whole, it continues the exploration-driven nature of the second half of part one. In hindsight, this was a mistake: Carlsev was not intended to be an exploration RPG, so I should've spun off that urge into a different project.

The battle system retained the modified DBS style set forth in part one: players must still exploit elemental weaknesses and draw magic from enemies, but there are a ton of new features. Enemy carcasses can be rendered for additional items; these, in turn, are used to create tonics, magic stocks, etc. I am also adding a new set of physical weaknesses to complement the elemental system. Instead of regular equipment, characters wear Essence-charged necklaces called "Augments". Due to the greater depth of the alchemy system and the (relative) complexity of rendering and refinement, I may need help creating a custom menu system; we'll see.

The story begins about two days after part one. This episode doesn't feature as many radical plot twists as part one, but it is still far from dull and predictable. This episode is definitely more character-centered: if part one was all about a thorny, unpredictable plot, then part two is all about equally thorny conflicts between characters, as well as the consequences of a few difficult decisions. Needless to say, the shades of gray multiply in the second installment -- and I would have it no other way.

Welp...

I decided to post the download for the old demo as well. Why hide it? It is what it is.

Feel free to play and review. If Carlsev Saga does come back, it's going to be completely revamped and certainly not for 2k or 2k3. It will be on VX Ace, without rips, without ripped music, and without anything of the sort.

It's not the most quality thing out there, but again, why hide it?

Hope you enjoy it! You finished Carlsev 1?
I do believe I'll download part one after I finish my final. About how long playtime wise is Part 1?

I played it and it took me 10 hours. It could be less depending on how you find and/or want to do some optional stuff. I did all I found.

Thanks. I'll give it a play sometime later today. I have to finish my final, though. D:

You might want to wait for Deckiller's answer. My guess is that you'll want to start fresh. There are some changes from Episode 1, you'll discover.

Actually, the saves don't carry over. It's basically a fresh new game.
Hey, noticed a few problems with the download:
First, you'll want to mention that the game needs the expanded 2k RTP to run; not everybody has it, and the game gives a confusing "Install RTPe.exe" message if it's not there.
Second, the game folder was missing the harmony.dll file, which can just be copied over from another game folder.

I'll be playing now.

EDIT: and then it was missing the "Hit" file in the intro when Rei ordered the tank to fire.

Ah, thanks. I never realized it required the expansion, since I had the files on my computer by default. I'll try to fix that ASAP.

Yeah, Deckiller. Remember what I mentioned about the Battle and Panorama folders. I don't to which RTP they belong to. Especially with the missing Battle files, I ran into enough of them, that instead of tracking file by file, I said to the heck with it and just copied the corresponding folder from Episode 1. That took care of things.

That would explain why nobody has really had a chance to play through this! Thanks, you two; I wish I had been notified by the others as well.

Yeah, you might consider, as others have done to post a version with the RTP(s) files included as a secondary download option (make sure to label it as such and probably relabel the other one as no RTP). I assume that any game I download that won't start from the executable, definitely requires some sort of RTP. Even when it does start, from time to time, I get the missing file issue from time to time. In RM2k3, the files I have inserted either through a RTP or by finding one with the same name in another game resulted in things not looking right. RM2k seems to be more forgiving in that sense.

I am not nobody, am I? You probably meant everybody else. I suspect the others would probably try playing Episode 1 first.

Double post! RMN 3.0 is acting up again.
Yeah, still getting the RTPe error, which is sad because I would like to play this =(
