"What!? You... you wanted to be defeated!?"

Back, in 2002, my brother, made a game with the RPGM-2000 engine, entitled Legacy. I even helped somewhat in that game's development. Memorable characters, an interesting story, and it's own sense of humor, it was a gaming experience more people should have access to.

I tried fiddling with the RPGM-XP engine, but the system was set up in such a way, that it would take a miracle of programming genius to pull off in RPGM-XP what my brother did just by checking a few check boxes in RPGM-2000. The task was overwhelmingly difficult for my skills. I dropped the project entirely, and switched to a more reasonable task, a sequel, or, at the very least, a spiritual sequel. It was not meant to be. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that RPGM-VX would make a better platform.

I was right on the money. Not only did I have the tools, more or less, needed for a Legacy remake, I went ahead and did it. With my brother's blessing, no less! While he didn't directly help in the development of Legacy Reborn, his input was most welcome. Particularly about the optional bonus dungeon I inserted.

What I didn't foresee was that this was still a rather "first RPGM game ever" game, and there was no attempt to rectify issues that arise from such an attempt. I'll admit that the wacky creature balance is totally my fault, but I was specifically directed not to mess too much with the mapping.

MOSTLY done, but not quite!

To be honest, there's probably a few more things I can do with this game. Make certain scenes better, have the wandering NPCs in the Jade HQ have dialog. Stuff like that. However, the essence of the game is done! Which is the most important part!

I have updated both the RTP-inclusve and RTP-dependent versions of the game. Please note that the main download has been set up as the RTP-inclusive version. Now, if you'll excuse me...

I like the fact that this game is getting feedback through the event discussion thread. This is more feedback than I'm used to getting, though I seem to recall Okiku, Star Apprentice drawing a lot more attention than is usual for one of my games.

Anyway, the commentary on this game seem to tend toward the negative side, and I might be taking them a tad too personally for my own good. So, I think it would be best for this game to be placed on haitus for a while. At least until such time that my Muse, properly equipped with the Bludgeon of Inspiration, decides that I should come back to this.

Sorry to hear that. When did you update the demo? I didn't see it. I would give it a shot, but would feedback on it be welcome?

@Red_Nova: I came out with the new demo at around this post. Sorry for not making it more visible.

As for additional feedback, sure, why not? Mood aside, I need to know what I'm doing right, what I'm doing wrong, and all that.

It's amazing how much a little context can dramatically change the feel of the game.

Okay, so after finishing the new demo (which took all of five minutes), I had to say that I feel a good deal more invested in this, even without fighting a single battle. The biggest complaint I have now is that the intro feels a bit rushed. So many things happen at once that it took a bit to take it all in. My second biggest complaint is the lack of faces.

I can't comment on the battles since, you know, there weren't any. Although I do have to wonder why the characters, being soldiers, don't have weapons now. Especially curious why Kazuto still has clothes on despite having an armored sprite. Since this was all in the original game, I'm curious as to why you deliberately took them out?

That being said, I still liked this new demo a lot better than the old one. Since I'm rather big on narrative, I find this new demo draws me in more than the old one.

It was definitely rushed! No question about it! I didn't even think about Kazuto having armor equipped after the gap!

DEEEERRRRRRPPP!

I must admit I'm a bit confused. After getting Miho to join me, I went north and was told that five years had passed. Being confused at that turn of events, I reloaded, and only now went into the forest east of town, which has monsters? I guess I'm supposed to do the forest first.

T-there were monster encounters?

Wait a sec. Lemme check on the events.

Okay, the event that you guys are hitting is supposed to be triggered with a switch, but, I apparently forgot to set that up as part of the event conditions? Everybody together now...

Way to fail, Sataro!

This largely explains the commentary that I got from MakioKuta as well.

Double-post for great justice:

Download updated! I didn't fix Kazuto's armor after the five-year gap (it's mostly irrelevant with this demo anyway), but the wastleland events should be more functional now.

Again, sorry for this mess. However, I guess I'm providing ample proof of the necessity of playtesting!

*Edit: Crap, players can still leave town without Miho. UUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!

Triple-post for great failure:

Download updated!

Fixed town exits so that players have to pick up Miho. Geeze, I knew I was rushing around the last few days of the event, but, this hard?

*Edit: You know, I have a vauge suspicion about something.

Darigaaz, I suck so hard, it's not even funny. My suspicion was that players could move over the town exists. The one in the south shouldn't matter too much, but moving through the south-west one might be a bit wonky! You'll have to excuse me if I don't fix this right away, due to the amount of exceptional amount of frustration that's mounting on my end of the keyboard.
It is short, easy, but has potential , it would be good to work a little more on the dialogues but otherwise is pretty good

Now i want to play the original

I'm pretty sure you don't! The 2K version had more definite grammatical/spelling errors, and the mapping was terribad! U-unless you're talking about the VX version that came out-whenever-it-was-ago? That version doesn't even exist anymore, as far as I'm concerned. There is Liberty's LP of it, if it's still up, though.

I want to play the 2K version, I know it will be bad but it shouldn't be too bad, do you have any download? maybe you should create a gamepage, or simply put it on mediafire

Hrm. Well, I would probably need to include the RTP, and what-not, but, I could probably put the 2K version up. With proper permission from my brother, of course! It would be his game after all! I'm... a tad afraid to ask him permission, though. Maybe I'm just weird?

So, I've been playing this game a bit as part of getting a game-thread ready for RMW. I was noticing that the enemies in the wasteland kept missing with their regular physical attacks. I didn't look into it until a bit later, but, their hit rate was set to 0%! D'oh!

Also, of the two times I've fought Rosie in this most recent play-through, she hasn't pulled off a Grand Dragon's Punch, despite being a priority 7 action. Though, it's also true that she would only use it when she's at 25% HP or less, but, it's still a bit disturbing to me.

*Edit: Download updated! Changes as follows:

  • Enemies fixed!
Those critters that had 0% hit rate? Yeah, that was fixed. I combed over the other enemies in the game to see if this happened elsewhere. Thankfully, it didn't!

  • Extra line!
The lieutenant in the Jade Headquarters gets a new line after dropping off Master Tomika. It's not a huge deal, but, mentioning Sergeant Kono when he's been dishonorably discharged felt a bit off to me.

  • Manual fixed!
There was mention in the manual that nobody reads about encounters being on-screen. This might have been true, at one point. However, it clearly isn't anymore, and the sentence has been revised to attempt to relay the correct information.

The game now has a game-thread on RMW! YAAAAAAY! Visit it here, if you are so inclined.

Note: This link is also provided in the description for the sake of convenience.
Short RPG. It was fairly easy because of generous battle rewards and respawning chests. The tower was a little too short for a final dungeon. The game is very basic but it didnt have any major flaws either. Good for a quick play.
