RMN Midsummer Dreams 2010

The summer has come to an end just in time for RMN Midsummer Dreams to come out. This game like its previous winter one, is simply a fun community game where there's no real goals/gameplay/story but rather just a small interactive adventure that playfully mocks RMN as a whole. To be clear: you're going to play it for the NPCs. Some of the jokes are weird and really got a few laughs out of me. Most of it I imagine is from YDS's unexpected humor. I don't want to spoil any though, but if you've been on this community long enough, you'll enjoy this from the NPC dialogue alone.

This game was mainly done by YDS and her mapping and graphics arrangements really put REFMAP on the... map. Many people don't like REFMAP because its hard to make a serious RPG game with overly cutesy charsets, but here it really shines. Each member of RMN is personified very fittingly making the dialogue more fun. There's really not much else to say about the graphic direction of this game, it's spot on and I'm sure YDS got some fun out of it.

There isn't much of a game to it though, you have 4 "quests" to do but they're not complicated and involve you interacting through crazy WTF situations. That's the way I like it. Like I said before: you're going to want to talk to every NPC. I would rather listen to what TFT has to say than play some mini-game to get to him. Sounds odd but it just works. Maybe if inserted properly and optionally some actual gameplay would be cool in the next community game but idk, I didn't need any this time to have fun.

Only problems I had with it were that some of the music was annoying mainly the title and the intro music (but the main lobby theme was good so the game wasn't unbearable or anything). Though I'm guessing most of the midis are community submitted so whatever. Another would be to have a "done/notdone" to the checklist to make the quests less confusing to track HOWEVER there are only 4 so that isn't a huge need.

Overall I enjoyed this 15 minute romp through the strange vision of RMN's community. It's much needed to be able to laugh at stupid drama shit that happened here, makes it more positive. As for the rating, it's not really a serious "game" nor is it some terrible game so the rating is just a very casual look at the game.
