Bowser has stolen the Princess (*gasp*) and taken her to his MOON BASE....IN SPACE! However, Mario will have to make his way through the Block Plains, past the Pirate Cove, across the Ancient Desert, over the Jungle Gorge and up Pandora Mountain to get there!

This game is a collaborative effort between Solitayre, GreatRedSpirit, Hexatona and kentona.

A special thanks goes out to Deckiller, Max McGee and ShortStar for play testing (and Deckiller for a guest level!).

This game requires the SMBX engine to play. Please download the engine from here:
DOWNLOAD

-Extract the 'Mario vs The Moon Base' folder into SMBX's Worlds folder.
-Start SMBX and select Start Game.
-From SMBX's menu go One/Two Player and select Mario vs the Moon Base from the scenarios list.

Thanks for playing!

Online Play

I just found a guide for how to connect to other people and play this game cooperatively online. It is amazingly complicated and unintuitive, just like everything else in SMBX.

I just have to know, has anyone tried or done this? I'm really interested to know if it works. If anyone manages to get this to work, post here and let us know about it! I think it would be really cool (and likely game-breaking!) for people to be able to play Moon Base together.

SMBX seems to have disappeared (by Nintendo's orders). Is there any way I can still play this?

It's all too true :(
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA A featured game is rendered unplayable WHILE IT'S FEATURED. This is worse even than Legendary Legend.

Yeah, now SMBX is a rogue program that is only available to those that can use... Google (I hear it is a lost art). It's kind of like RPG Maker 2k/3, without the actual piracy issues...

The funniest thing about this whole ordeal is that while SMBX and related games have been scrubbed from the the SMBX website, there are literally tons of Super Mario Bros. flash games hosted there.

That is what makes it highly suspicious. Doesn't really matter though, because the map editor for SMBX was always garbage. Maybe someone else will make something more tolerable in its place.

We were talking about the same thing earlier, Magi. Nintendo wants him to take down SMBX and related materials, but is entirely cool leaving up dozens of Mario flash games? I am pretty sure he just wanted to drop the whole thing and move on -- at least he didn't fake his own death like the Ocarina of Time 2D project lead.

On the other hand, should be pretty easy to repackage Mario vs. the Moon Base as a standalone project now that the SMBX project is dropped!

Is it even possible to make SMBX games standalone?
@halibalica: only by zipping the entire smbx installation (including the editor which is built into the game)

It is possible to strip out unnecessary graphics and sounds, and disable the level editor and other references via hex editing and other tools. Not an ideal solution, but possible.

But how many random passers-by you look at featured game and download and try to play it only to find it unplayable and discard it (well that was the old group of "unplayers"). Now there's also the group who reads the instructions and goes to the page linked and find it no longer exists and discard it (that's the new group or "unplayers"). It is the dedicated 5% that look through the comments on the gamepage or google what it's all about that might find an answer saying "yeah smbx was pulled". Then 10% of those will discard it. Eventually 4.5% of all new people interested in this game will find your post with a link to the engine and they will get to play the game.

It could have been 100% if the game had been standalone from the start. (Well let's be reasonable, 80%, there's always some people who download everything and then just forget about it and delete it without playing eventually)

Fortunately the month is over soon and we can all forget about this one.

I just have to say it again.

(As a side-note keeping the flash games up isn't really that surprising. Nintendo can't make some kind of complaint about the flash platform and going around telling every single flash Mario clone to shut down is too much even for them when here they had a clear creator of a software whose only purpose was to rip off Nintendo properties (thus, when it came to their attention it existed, weakening their trademarks))
