Bowser has stolen the Princess (*gasp*) and taken her to his MOON BASE....IN SPACE! However, Mario will have to make his way through the Block Plains, past the Pirate Cove, across the Ancient Desert, over the Jungle Gorge and up Pandora Mountain to get there!

This game is a collaborative effort between Solitayre, GreatRedSpirit, Hexatona and kentona.

A special thanks goes out to Deckiller, Max McGee and ShortStar for play testing (and Deckiller for a guest level!).

This game requires the SMBX engine to play. Please download the engine from here:
DOWNLOAD

-Extract the 'Mario vs The Moon Base' folder into SMBX's Worlds folder.
-Start SMBX and select Start Game.
-From SMBX's menu go One/Two Player and select Mario vs the Moon Base from the scenarios list.

Thanks for playing!

Online Play

I just found a guide for how to connect to other people and play this game cooperatively online. It is amazingly complicated and unintuitive, just like everything else in SMBX.

I just have to know, has anyone tried or done this? I'm really interested to know if it works. If anyone manages to get this to work, post here and let us know about it! I think it would be really cool (and likely game-breaking!) for people to be able to play Moon Base together.

Well looks like the SMBX engine has to cease to exist now, since it is now illegal to distribute the SMBX engine in the public :/

Yes, this game can be made a standalone, but the problem is, since this game is made out of the SMBX engine, which is now classified as illegal, this game might henceforth be regarded as illegal. As what Solitayre said,

The creator of SMBX has asked that no one provide downloads for SMBX anymore.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well, like almost all games on this site, it was always illegal from the beginning, because it uses copyrighted graphics and music without the permission of the original creators. That's not grounds to remove the download from this site, though, and never has been.

See, Nintendo hasn't asked this game to be taken down, only SMBX. They can legally ask for this game to be taken down at any time, because it violates copyright law - but they haven't. Until they actually ask you to, you can leave it up. As long as you are only distributing the game and not the editor, Nintendo's C&D doesn't apply to you.

Leaving this game up without providing the editor is no different than having an RM2K3 game whose download requires the RTP to work.

that doesn't necessarily illegal, but, in the case of SMBX, it was illegal because of the use of the music and graphics were probably not "fair use".
I think considering that Nintendo still make games that are essentially the same as they've always made (like the last Mario game on the Wii) then they have an interest in keeping Mario gaming of essentially the same calibre not free.
Wait are we pissing on an indie's ability to control their work?

What I want to know is who's the sadistic little shit behind "River of Skulls", putting an unavoidable piranha plant in the middle of a blind jump over falling platforms in World 4? Forget the many other places before that (jumping gopher in your path after jumping a pit, hardy har har!). I eventually had to cut my losses, use a Super Leaf, and fly up to jump across the small platforms above.

If you're talking about the part I think you are, I could have sworn that piranha plant got removed during testing. Guess it wasn't for whatever reason. That's my fault, sorry!

What are the controls for SuperMarioBroX games? I can't seem to find this documentation anywhere. I can only figure out Z, X, A, S, are these the only buttons used? Is there a start/select buttons or L and R, or at least a pause button?

EDIT: Nevermind, I finally found it inside the program itself under options.
Could I borrow the glass graphics you used on the UFOs for my game? I'm doing a few space levels myself!
Forgot to mention, I cleared the game completely.
A nice ending. No spoilers.
I've finished Mario vs. The Moon Base, and it's the best SMB X game with RMN Bros 2 that I have playing ! :D
If I haven't said it before. I'll say it now or again. This is very high quality stuff. If you charged $10 for it. I'd pay it. I know you can't charge since its copyrighted material, but I'm just saying its worth it.

These levels are a lot of fun, beautiful and colorful. They aren't excessively challenging. It feels like if Super Mario 3 had a sequil on the SNES, this would be it.
You mean this great and enjoyable game right? :-)

Heres a general video playthrough of a great and enjoyable game.

Submit as media for great justice.
I'm not sure the 15 marketscore is justice for hours of play and even longer for upload.
Nooo the first Moon levels aren't there :( (The Moon is easly my favorite world in the game)

Anyways, thanks Davenport!
I'm not sure if I post this here, but anyway. I was playing this, having a great time, but I got stuck in "Pipe nightmare" because of the boss.
I watched davenport's video (10th) to find out how to beat the thing and I found out that mine is acting different. In my game, the ball is bouncing around the walls like crazy. I suppose it's a bug, because it's difficult as hell.

I already downloaded and reinstalled both the engine and the world, so, what else can I do?
hrmm.... I will download it again and find out if something is amiss.

So I downloaded the game again and tried playing the level, but I did not encounter the issue you described. If it is still happening, I can send you a modified version of the level without the ball, so that you can beat it and progress.

Place this file in the Mario vs. The Moon Base folder, and rename it to 4-10 Pipe Nightmare.lvl
