STORY LINE

You wake up in a void, surrounded by darkness, with no body, no memory of who you are or how you got here. Luckily for you a benevolent being has decided to give you another chance at life. S/he sends you on your way with a stalwart companion by your side. Your quest? Well, that's up to you really.

Incantation is a game that is light on story but heavy on exploration and questing!

In this game you can:
- Choose one of four story modes
- Play as either a male or female.
- Choose which quests and events you complete.
- Unlock new companions as you complete quests and events.
- Find lots of hidden secrets!

It's entirely up to you what you want to do.

STORY MODES

There are four different story modes in Incarnation, each with specific goals and plot points. They are as follows: Memories, Saviour, A Friend in Need and No Plots Here. Each have specific quests that only that mode has (except for NPH) and characters that may not be important in one story may be pivotal in the next.

MEMORIES
In Memories you as the hero try to recover your past and make sense of how you got to the void and who the God (?) who aids you really is.

SAVIOUR
In Saviour you are asked to save the world from the evil god, Gosh! Be warned, his minions await adn you will need to raise your own army to combat him!

A FRIEND IN NEED
Your comrade has been kidnapped! You'll need to find the clues that lead to the culprit and rescue your stalwart companion.

NO PLOTS HERE
As the title suggests, this mode is just an exploration heavy play-through. Complete quests, explore areas and find lots of treasure!

The theme of this game is reincarnation. You are a hero, a wanderer, a simple journeyer, a peaceful commoner. The threads are established and change according to the tale you choose.

Future of this game? Null. Maybe.

So, I'd been working on this game on the quiet for a while and had gotten pretty far (at least another hour of play). I'd fixed some of the stuff mentioned in reviews, replayed it a few times to best identify problem points, added some extra stuff so that you couldn't leave town without another character, added a little more of the main story and just touched up things - got rid of the edits of others and added my own instead.

However, when I moved computer a few months ago I lost all my VX games, including this one. I'm not sure how - I was positive that I'd copied them all over to the backup drive but when it came time to move them to the new computer, they just weren't there.

Having lost so much progress (coupled with the fact that MV is coming out soon and that Ace is miles better as an engine) really put a downer on my desire to tinker with the game and I've not even bothered to redownload the game.

Will it stay that way? Maybe. Maybe not. I might redownload it and fix some of the more pertinent issues eventually, though I doubt I'll be actually making it a full game. Sorry guys. For what it's worth, I have learned a lot from making this game, mostly about battle balance and editing. It's given me a lot of experience and though it will probably be remembered as a pretty unbalanced game, it helped me a lot to make something so unbalanced and difficult. Sometimes we learn the most from the things we fuck up. ^.^

Frankly, I'm mostly upset about some of the edits I made, which I hadn't had the time to copy elsewhere.

@Schion: No. I should change the tag on it. Unfortunately I lost all my VX games when I changed computer, so losing the work I'd done on it has made me a bit meh about it. (Also, I have to get VX again.) >.<;

@Blandkom: I kinda prefer the darker skins, but I'm sure I added some lighter ones too.
Enjoyed the game, but have a complaint: the coloring for the menu should really be changed, especially for the Records screen. -- I pretty try most colors and selection is only a lighter color of the selected, for example Grey = a lighter grey, black = a dark shade of grey, etc, makes it really hard to see which file you're selecting sometimes.
I found the first area to be a bit hard because the Roosters kept stunning me and thats how I ended up dying alot. Then I got lost half the time. Now I understand it. XD I really love this game. Didn't know it was a demo, but I can't wait :D
The answers you give at the start change who your side character will be. They will always be of different gender but there are different classes you can get. Some can use certain weapons and learn spells to help, some can't. Sell off weapons you can't use to outfit yourself with equipment you can. Or keep it until you get a character who can use the weapon (not in the demo).

mapping is good

exploration is good

shift in battles! :D
:O the special rewards :O

custom enemy sprites? never seen these b4!

enemies lvl up with you? : D!?

my main character is female side is male (obv)
he doesn't lvl up with the same amount of xp is the main. also note
he is 2-6x or more stronger then main at the same lvl. XD

the male sub character gets 2 regular attacks even tho he is kinda a mage and has 1 weapon?

weapon bless serves nearly no purpose. especially since the stronger magic user has it.

wish i had a dmg aoe attack sooo bad more then 3 enemies is annoying XD

night dagger in 2 chests :( what a waste

a scarfs considered jewelery and a accessory!? male support can equip 2

as enemies respawn and theres no area fast travel getting around sucks XD

Tips

have multiple saves when buying gear in case you get something you don't want/need

if you want a something from a shop consider the sell cost of your gear and just sell the thing you'd exchange to be able to afford it

before anything visit the pub in the right area. accept all the quests and get the girl int eh corner in your party.
then take your time exploring every nook and cranny of the 1st town for all the extra money and such you can get! you will want it!

enemies level up with you,so don't try to out lvl them

look at your characters stats w/o gear to see what there strengths and weaknesses are build on them and use that knowledge to be more effective in battle

This wasn't my thing so i did not explore everything. i played enough to get to the end of the demo and explore a little of the town your supposed to go to.

overall
recommend to people who just want something time consuming
If I tell you everything now, you won't have a reason to watch the video :P I was pretty thorough in exploring.

I went to the quest desk and grabbed a quest, then ran to the forest just to test things out and ended up staying until I cleared the whole thing. I never thought to grab all the quests at that time, but later it was pretty clear to go talk to her. So I had no trouble finding the third. I knew I'd be getting a third, just unsure of which one and when. There was that tough guy.

When you see how I used defend in the video, you'll understand.

Glad to help. Feel free to request more games in my thread in the future :3
Wait, there's a comment on CC? I'll go check in a mo~ ^.^

Yeah, it's an older game that I kinda dropped, thus some of the issues. I haven't really checked on it much since then, bar cannibalizing some code and resources/ideas.

Thing is, if you'd gotten the third character you would have had access to damage spells off the bat (she comes with a fire skill, a heal and learns a holy attack early on). Problem is that everyone tends to miss her for some reason - probably my fault for allowing you to get out of town without her. I should change that.

Did you actually find the Pub on the east side of the town? Did you find the east side of town? orz I tried to make it more apparent with the paths but looking back, it might be that people are thinking that direction is just another path out of town and instead don't bother following it.

If you get through the forest you can choose to skip it next time as an easy travel route. Did you find the treasure room in the forest? Unlock any prizes?

Thanks for going over (this mess of a) game. I do appreciate the feedback. It might even help me refine it up a bit more so it's actually playable! And yeah, I'll look at the defend skill a bit. It's not supposed to be OP, just useful in a bind. ^.^;

The videos are uploading now. Taking hours. I need to find a way to encode my videos smaller than 500mb for 30 minutes haha

If there isn't too much more to the game, I'll give it a try again from where I saved some time.

The reason it's easy is because of the defend skill. It's so overpowered xD I cleared the entire forest of enemies in one go without the third party member or even using items. Well, I left once to go INN early on before I discovered the defend skill. I hardly even used the cure spell.

My partner had a sleep spell.

Thing about the bees is that I only got the Stone spell towards the end. So for the majority of my time in the dungeon I didn't have it. I was dealing about 15 dmg with one character and 0 with the other, they had around 50 or more HP. Plus, I thought the bees were immune to everything else because it kept saying no effect. I couldn't keep trying cause they hit pretty hard. Then I realized late that they were in fact susceptible to Con and they would quickly self destruct themselves.

I wouldn't say it wasn't engaging. Everything outside of battle was pretty solid. The tedium came from the length of the battles. Some of them dragged on too long because of my lack of offensive skills. I was limited to plain old attack. IMO, no RPG should start out with so few skills. Fight, heal, or defend is basically impossible to make fun. So just skip that whole part and let the player start at level 10 with a handful of offensive and defensive choices. Almost every RM game I play is utterly boring to start out with. It's like people think being weak at the start of the game is a requirement :/

To me, fun comes from choices and skills that can string together in various ways. Like a move that changes my stance after it's done, which alters the effect of my other skills. The problem is the engine and general lack of RGSS knowledge for people to think outside the enterbrain box. I could never use a DBS because my battle mechanic ideas are so unconventional that it's not possible.

Anyways, I could go on...This is an older game right? I'm sure you've improved since then? :) I'm still waiting for you to finish Celdran's Curse(or to even reply to my comment on there ;)

Well, there's a town next and a dungeon then end of demo, so... yeah. XD

I'm surprised you find it easy. I got complaints that it was far too hard even after I balanced the battles a bit more... then again, who knows if the people complaining used items or not. I find it rather easy. Also, use your spells on the bees - they're weak to magic and you should have enough healing items to win. Did you manage to find your third party member? Some people had trouble with that and missed her completely - which probably explains why battles were hard for them. Also, which partner did you get?

Sorry it's not as engaging as it could be. >.<; If there's one thing I need to work on a bit more it's making battles more interesting.
Game is pretty easy so far. I only did the first forest level. When is it supposed to get difficult?

I'm finding it slightly tedious. In that the battles take a while, damn you bees, and they respawn and get in the way every time I re-enter the forest. But, I can't win by mashing attack so that's a plus. I have to mix up my moves.

Do you have any saves that are a few hours in? So I can skip the low level stuff? I've played for 1.5 hours and I'm only through the first dungeon. I don't think I can continue on with that slow pace.
...no. The hell? o.O;

Lemme check dis shit. >.<;
Is this payback for the time I (accidentally ;) game-trolled you in the Game Chill event?

You can't go to those places yet. The city north of the forest you can, and the mountain to the west of the mountain, but the rest are a no.

ok thanx for the info..:)

thanx for the help.. i found all the forest herbs :) :) and also opened the chest..
and also right outside the first forest there is a tower which i cannot enter. whenever i try to enter it i get teleported back to the start of the forest.. this also happens wen i enter any building in the snowy town in the extreme north but i get teleported to the weapon shop in segar....
is this supposed to happen or does it mean that i dont have to go to that place yet????
thanx again anyways.... :D
Red chests can only be opened with a chest key. There are a few scattered about (you can find your first in the Inn of Segar town. Check what the maid mentions.)
The herbs are hard to find. There is one that is hidden behind a tree in the south part of the forest. There's also one in the north-western part of the map due north of the entrance. You have to circle around from near the exit to get it. Just go north twice from the exit, past the treasure room and up.

I'll post a map of the forest and things of interest shortly, just in case they aren't the ones you're missing.

Also, just a warning, the game ends around the part where you're told to look for a specific person. You can still go to the mountains and head through the caves and collect all the treasures there, but the demo is essentially over at that point.

EDIT: Added to the Tips page, in a spoiler. The pale blue dots are the herb locations. Hope that helps!
hey can some1 plz tell me all the locations of the forest herbs in the first forest??? i found 11 and i cant seem to find the last one anywhere... i've looked everywhere but i cant find it.. also how can i open the red chest in that forest???
plz help... :(
I think of you head to the Meras Mountains you'll get back on the path. I don't think I made much more beyond that point, actually, and so that quest doesn't end. ^.^;
Hi! Regarding the Shop to the North in Iofeld, after you get that quest from a man who sells oddities, yeah? Is it a shop with a gravestone in front of it? I accidentally spoke to him before I had finished the quest, and I think that might be the shop, but I can't go in. If it's not, how do I get to the shop..?
