Well, here's the prologue:
Nine years ago, a machine Called the "Capital Walker" was built to find a safe place to put the capital city and the "Red House". When it found the place, it was about to put the capial and the "Red House" down, a mysterious silver-blue vortex appeared in front of it. The votex blew up the "Capital Walker" and it fell, coincedently forming a tunnel that conected its footprints. The footprints were made into cities, and they were inhabited by goblins, dwarves, and elves. LIfe down there in the "Domes" was the same as up on the surface, exept the elves gave the Domes their technology so the Domes have a much, much more advanced technological world. The tunnels have grdually become infested with monsters from the "Overworld". The "Overworlders" built special labyrinths to contain monsters in. they put many common, unnoticeable monsters in dungeons and one noticable, unique monster guarding the exit called the dungeon "Boss". These dungeons eventually became used as training facilities for adventurer's guids, bounty hunter guilds, and mercenary's guilds. Aparrentyly the vortex (known as "The Hole") corrupted the creatures and turned them inro these monsters. The Hole seemed to have corrupted some humans too, and turned them into smarter, stronger monsters known as "Bosses".
It has been almomst 100 years since "The Incident". The "Red House" was wrecked and the "Chanore" was killed. They were replaced with a King and Queen in a Castle. (I know kinda cliche, but it's kinda funny considering this takes place in an alternate dimension in a post apocalyptic time.). No-one knows what happened to the magical "Domes" and the "Dwarves" and "Trolls" and "Elves" and "Goblins". Monsters are still trapped in "Dungeons" (in case you play the game and the walls of the dungeons look man-made, that's becuse they are.).

I'm not sure when this happened, but I've become a co-developer of this project. If there is any truth to wonderprince's stated age, it's possible I'll end up as the only "legit" developer.

The funny thing about this is that I don't even have any of the project's resources. I guess I have to give this a +1 download and pray that the files are unencrypted?
It's encrypted and can do with a lot of changes.

To whoever made this, here is some feedback to help you improve your game.

-Why in the tutorial does it shout PRESS UP ARROW KEY TO MOVE UP in caps like that?
-In Alanacia, go down those random stairs, go back up the player transfers to the wrong tile. They're walking on that 1 square river.
-Alanacia looks a mess. If you structure the town and plan it before mapping it it'll look a lot better. Look at some other RTP games for examples.
-Music in Alanacia plays on world map when you leave
-Signs don't say anything, maybe they aren't set to "same as character"?
-What is up with that empty map in that outer hedge maze?
-That boss in the hedge maze can be defeated as soon as you enter it by just pressing attack constantly.
-The crystal said it teleports the player to the major? It just teleported the player elsewhere in the dungeon.

So I think I'm stuck in a dungeon so I stopped there. Try playing other games, you'll probably get good ideas from them.

I can probably respond to a few of these, but not all. Not that I can do anything about them at this second, but I want to alleviate some concerns:

Why in the tutorial does it shout PRESS UP ARROW KEY TO MOVE UP in caps like that?

The better question is why information like this isn't in a separate manual file?

Music in Alanacia plays on world map when you leave

This is most likely a failure to change the music of the town when switching to it. That should be easy to fix.

Signs don't say anything, maybe they aren't set to "same as character"?

An equal possibility is that they don't have text to show, for whatever reason.

That boss in the hedge maze can be defeated as soon as you enter it by just pressing attack constantly.

I was able to beat that dragon's face with minimal effort as well, and is a balance issue. I hope I'm not expected to balance this, Legacy Reborn and Matsumori Days!

The crystal said it teleports the player to the mayor? It just teleported the player elsewhere in the dungeon.

It took me a while to grasp that it teleported the player to elsewhere in the dungeon. However, you are correct. There is no way out of the dungeon. While it is my belief that not being able to leave a dungeon at the player's leisure is poor design, I probably should be the absolute last person to talk about poor design in light of Liberty's Let's Try of Legacy Reborn.
The teleports got messed up when I was "filtering" the file, but I thought the demo with fixed teleports was here.
The hole is goatse.
Well, considering I created my first stories at 4 or 5 and my first comic at 8...
My next 154 one-page comics came over the next 5 years, though I had no real coherent story to them 'til the 99th comic (about 9 or 10)...
I had a stable of characters about fifty deep by the time I reached high school, which has expanded to somewhere over a hundred since, ten or so of whom have reached the public domain through fan fiction...

And if you want proof I have no less than four binders, two duotangs and a stack of stories forty high I could take pictures of, and different completed and incomplete project folders I could screencap...

I believe a nine-year-old could make a game.

wonderprince, don't take it personally that people don't believe you. Skepticism runs rampant all over the internet, and no matter how hard you try there will be some people you just won't convince, no matter how many capitals or emphasis you may feel and/or use. I felt the same way when I first engaged the Internet's populace en masse on Gaia Online.

As for the game, since I don't have a working VX copy I won't be able to play this to give any constructive advice...
Well, I must say the world has an interesting backstory.

Edit: Dammit, check posting dates!

Looks like wonderprince made my version public, 'cause I'm sure I never did. I think this means that potential players are supposed to get whichever version they think they will like better. In a way, I suppose getting one version over another is akin to some kind of voting system.

I meant for my version to be looked at by wonderprince first, to see if what I've done meets with his approval. Maybe alter a few things here and there, or whatever. I swear that I told him as much, but perhaps I was being a bit convoluted with my vocabulary. Blame Matsumori Days. More specifically, the character of Mitsuya Masako. The fact that my version currently stands with 0 downloads, I suppose this strategy never happened.

Anyways, happy gaming, players of The Hole, regardless of which version you get!

Side note: This feels like it should be a blog, but... never mind.
I just played WonderPrince's version. After I killed the dragon in the hedgemaze, I WAS teleported back to the Mayor, but he kept saying I still needed to kill it. I walked around on the world map and you can't even walk into any other locations. Is this game actually completed?

Downloading your version now, Marrend.

I can't even recall how the original version worked anymore, but I think the characters have a miniature conversation after going outside the mayor's house (maybe after taking a step in any direction first) about going to the castle? Wow, my memory is really fuzzy!

Thanks for the play attempt, though! I hope my version has a few redeeming values, but we shall see!

*Edit: After actually reading Little Wing Guy's post (way to fail on my part), I'd call that a bug. I swear, the version wonderprince gave me to work with had something different happen when talking to the mayor. And I got that version September of 2010, I think? I no longer know what to say, outside of going the uber-cheerful "Thanks for playing!" route.

I was playing off of my copy of the game, mostly to get the screenshot I just posted, and it looks like you can board Amadeux's boat before you even meet him. I was running an archived version of the game, so I'm hoping the bug was squashed. Though, that means my archived file, in the very least, has that bug. Which leads me to suspect that this bug is in the current version.

*Edit: Yep, the bug was still there. I'm uploading a new version, this time RTP-dependant, that has this bug squashed. As an additional bonus, if one can call it that, the thought bubbles have a dim background! I didn't change the dialog at all, so whatever grammar/spelling errors there were (I think Gourd_Clae's review mentioned some.) still persist.
All that backstory(?) for just 8mb? Yowzers in my trousers, is that really necessary?
But perhaps ''necessary'' isn't the right word.

I think "unused" is the word you might be looking for.

I'm not exactly positive, but it could be.
For a moment there, I thought no-none would ever reply to that.
This RPG made by a 9 year old is more interesting than most run of the mill RPG's i've seen lobo play. Very short, and uses ATB, but it's extremely low difficulty. Though I did get recked by the second boss once. Not a bad game at all.

I feel like such a terrible person about this game, sometimes. I think I tried to be a mentor to this user, but came off a tyrant?

I dunno. What's done is done, I suppose.
