Top RPG Maker Games

Hey guys, minor news here but recently stumbled across this video of a guy's list of the top RPG Maker games and Leo & Leah is listed as #4! Check it out!

@Crystalgate:
That's really weird and unfortunate =( When I tried it just now, this didn't happen, so idk... Unfortunate too because the end of the game is very near after that.

@eplipswitch:
argh pretty much hit the nail on the head regarding Leo and the villains. Leo is a lion. He's a predator. He's fearless. And he's not going to take anyone taking his girlfriend away lightly.
Even if Brandy is made slightly sympathetic before her death, that's not his nature to spare an enemy at all. When she tells Whiskey that she doesn't know what she'll do without him, notice this is when he springs up and bites Whiskey in the ass. As for the clowns, they feed on emotions and they saw the love brimming from Leo and thought they could have a feast on it. Except both Leo and Leah end up eating him instead, while a crowd cheers.

I kind of wanted to go the route of "less is more", especially coming from the clowns. The player is a character in the game too and there are scenes tailored to elicit certain deep reactions (I hope) from the player instead of Leo to make up for his "fearless" nature.

@argh
I was originally going to have more scenes with Charlie Darwin but it seemed to break the flow. I guess I wanted to make a game with a fully developed plot with the least (~two per chapter) cutscenes as possible. I admit I could've done better with Daisy's character. But oh well.. at least we eventually find out her deal, and she is pretty badass in battle... And thanks for the TVTropes page, dude :)
You're welcome! I've been making articles of RPG Maker games I like for a while now.

By the way, most pages usually have a quote at the beginning that ties to the game's plot or central message. Does anyone know if there would be a good (non-spoilery) one for Leo & Leah?
Haha man, all you need to quote to fully get across the theme of the game is the game's opening African proverb and the song that can be found here:
http://www.hotlyrics.net/lyrics/S/Shelley_Duvall/He_Needs_Me.html

As for in-game dialogue... I guess I'll let someone else decide. That's pretty cool, though, with what you're doing with TVTropes and RPG Maker games. Did you do the Alter AILA one? that one is massive
I didn't make the original page for Alter AILA, though I did start the section for the remake. You can see all the work pages (and tropes) I've made on my contributor page, which I only update once in a blue moon. (I did update it recently, though)

How near? If there isn't much left, it may be worth finishing the game anyway.

BTW, I think you set the game up so that F1 would restore movement speed in case that somehow got screwed up. Is it possible to make F1 remove direction fix as well in case someone else has this problem in the future?
You should be on the fifth chapter. There are six in total and the sixth is very short. I'm not sure but chances are you could encounter an event that might fix your direction somewhere along the way. Do you have the editor? You can always edit in an event somewhere to do it.

I will keep your recommendation in check! I would however like to find out what caused that first.
I encountered a discombobulation bug in the first fight with Daisy, apparently a missing item.

Well, people are posting some bugs here, so I thought I could help with a few I remember.
>When I was escaping the frog prison, I changed back into a lion, dashed and screwed the cutscene up. No bigger damage, but you may want to prevent people from doing that.
>And on the ship, after talking with the woman ghost the first time, I was stuck in "Through ON" movement and couldn't trigger the events inside the ship. I reloaded, and it never happened again.

Oh, and I'm curious: The laryngitis thing happens more often the more you use the war skill skill? It didn't happen to me once until chapter 3, and on chapter 5 it would happen 2 or 3 times in a row.

Anyway, I had a wonderful time playing Leo&Leah :) Congratulations on the featured.
I've recorded all the known bugs here to curb the comments reporting the same bugs over and over:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/2324/Bugs/

Laryngitis has a 1 in 6 chance of occurring when using War Cry. 2 in 6, Daisy can attack 5 times. And 3 in 6, Daisy can attack 3 times. So I guess you just got lucky for Chapter 3 :)

Glad you enjoyed it. Did you complete it?

Just log into your imageshack account, don't log it off, and you'll be able to see those images.
The facing bug got fixed by triggering a cutscene. To fix it:
Move north until you encounter the cutscene with the bowyers and monkeys. At that area, find an exit to the east. There you should find a being called the Lightning Balrog. Talk to it and the facing will be fixed.

To bad that was about the last place I entered.

Really? And after people said that it was "too easy", ha. Which part is giving you problems? You have to manage your skills, SP and items right.
Well, I die often, and I'm usually drained out after each battle, so unless there's some healing source nearby, I have to wait A LOT to replenish. I basically never run, cause I always need the extra HP/SP. My items are few, so I save them. I don't use skills often, cause I'd have to wait too long to replenish the SP, and when I do is basically war cry and those double attacks. I don't know, maybe I'm using a wrong strategy or something?

Or maybe I'm underleveled? I just started chapter 4, and I'm at level 10.

I died in like 15 mins. But its apparently an easy game. We must suck.

Edit: Double NINJA'D
Personally I only found the game "hard" after I created a pickle for myself by using the Bugsuit to avoid a lot of enemies (and read the racist bug dialogue, teehee). I had to grind to beat the queen bee.

Level 10 is normal for Chapter 4. In fact, you can beat this game by Level 14. Why do you have little items, though? There is no other reason for seashells other than to buy items. I'd suggest stocking up on a lot of Stuffed Gnats for outside-of-battle healing after giving Cheep the Santa hats. Is obtaining seashells a problem? If you're getting difficulty I recommend having War Cry, Enguarde and Heart for Leo, as that's the "easiest" one. If you're having a hard time getting seashells, use the "Trick" ability on bosses/mini-bosses. It gives you like 3, 5, 10 seashells each time you use it.

Dashing into enemies helps a great deal also. Are you doing that?

i beat the entire game without grinding, skipping most of the enemies

As a matter of fact, I didn't grind either. "Heart", "Enguarde" and "War Cry" are pure-win abilities in any battle. I did have a few problems here and there, but no grinding :)

And I walk almost all the time :) Seriously, I find running kinda practically useless except to move faster :/

Oh, and I beat the game at around level 16.
