Basic Info:
This is a bit harder than your typical RPG you play now a-days. It's very basic, but contains fun gameplay elements. In short, this game is not for everyone, it's difficult and you're not gonna coast through it. Bosses are hard, enemies are hard. Especially at the early levels when death is only cure-able at churches in town.

Story:

700 years ago, the world of man was a place of peace. People lived their lives without fear, and mankind flourished. It didn't last. A great evil emerged, and laid waste to civilization. When all hope seemed lost, a hero stepped forth, and turned the tides of war. He pushed the evil ones back, and saved our world. Peace returned, and lasted for many centuries. But history has a way of repeating, and darkness always returns. A putrid force is working to bring true evil back to our world. The hero who saved us is long dead, though he has but one descendant. That descendant, however, is no hero. With no intention of defeating the coming evil, but rather bringing it forth. It seems a new hero is needed, one who can stop this new force, and save our world from annihilation.

Fable of Heroes II update, 4-21-13

It's hard finding time to work on this game. But things are going along well.

I have an outline for the plot of the game, and have put in about 50% of the plots content, which has given the game about 6-ish hours of playtime. Not bad, since I'm shooting for around 10+. I've been working out the balance issue, and trying to make sure all the items, weapons and skills are useful and fun.

I'm considering getting a writer to go through my script and beef it up. I've seen what writers can do, and I think that would add so much depth to this project.

I know this isn't the most popular RPG maker series, but since the first game was featured on this site, I feel a need to make sure the sequel is much better and address the issues of the first game.

EDIT: Double post. I'm sorry.
Hmm.Altrough it seems kinda default i,ll still give it a shot.After all, i,m a big fan of NES-era and SNES-era RPG's.
Even though it's RTP I'll download. The maps look good enough.

*played for a bit*

First impressions. It is what you stated, a simple RPG. Decent use of the RTP. I like some of the minor details(exiting the forest in a different place than when you entered). Rooms have stuff scattered about which is good, but places like the weapon shop could have used more stuff.

Now, I havn't played many RM2000 games so maybe I'm just not used to it but the slow movement speed makes me not want to explore a room and just head right for the exit. I found a few hidden objects in jars but I probably skipped even more. At least the maps are relatively small so it could be worse ^.^;

I only played into the second town. I stopped after talking to everybody and unneccisarily sleeping at the inn xD (because I thought it would advance the story). The game is not terrible, however I cannot get past the RTP graphics. It's just my personal preference. If this game had a different chipset I would put some more time into it as it was the only thing that turned me off.

With so many RM games it would take something unique to make me want to put an extended amount of time into. You seem to have the skills needed to make a not-terrible game :)

*edit: OH YEAH I forgot about the one thing I didn't like and maybe I was just missing something but...I couldn't see my Status screen or know anything about my experience points.
Well i played the first part of the game and i saw how maps, stats and characters are.Must say it is worth playing it.
An impressive game based on classic rtp 2000.
Maps were well designed indeed. Goodluck on this project!

Press esc and it brings up the menu. It shows all the chars with their exp and req next level exp. And thanks for the honest feedback. I hope the RTP isn't to much of a bother for you, I figured the RTP already has the look I want, so I just used it. Their are some minor edits to things when RTP didnt cut it. Just keep going, the game gets better and better as you explore and progress.

I've played for just a little while and the one thing that is bothering me the most is the slow walking speed, especially when the dungeons are long and empty hallways. Otherwise, so far, it's fine. Straight-forward with perhaps a notable amount of grind required.
Just for the record, there are few times when slow walking speed is appreciated. I'd be wary of doing that in the future.

Outside of cutscenes, I feel that there's no real way to justify slow movement speed. This even more so when you're forced to catch up with a character that runs at the speed of light around a square room while you move at a snail's pace.
I chose this walk speed because it mimics that of early Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. I realize this is sort of a niche that I'm targeting. This game is not meant to be easy.

I tried to scale the game world so things are smaller thus the slow walking speed shouldn't be an issue. Though I will say the first dungeon, "The Forgotten Tower" is maybe too big. I apologize about that and I'll update the mapping to be a bit less open.

Other than that, Iike the feel of a slower walking speed. I hope some other players will see my point.

Thanks for all the honest feedback!

Try it now, it should be fixed.
Think I will download this and give it a shot when I have time. I kind of feel sorry for those who will or can not play a game due to RTP graphics. It may be RTP but just going by screenshots, it looks well-used.

Looks like this game is in the spiritual "old school" vein of Hero's Realm. Giving it a shot.

Honestly, RTP never gets old.

Edit: The counter rate seems kind of high; there were stretches on the world map where I was getting into a battle every two steps.

Edit 2: Whoo boy, I got a kick out of dragging your dead party members around in a coffin!
The encounter rate has been interesting sometimes. Sometimes you'll take two steps, sometimes you'll take 20. It's all about luck i guess. Forests and swamps magnify the rate so, keep that in mind. It's best to stay on grassy fields. Also you may notice certain dungeons that are puzzle heavy have a reduced rate. They'd never do that back in the day, I'm going against my source martial, but I did that for you guys, ;)

Just out of curiosity, were you heavily inspired by Hero's Realm or just its Dragon Quest/early Final Fantasy counterparts?
I'm not sure if I have the patience for this anymore. It's like writing a paper using an ink and quill when there are pens at hand.

Do you mean the walk speed? You can always decrease it in the maker.
