The year is 2011, and a terrible infection has spread across the United States.

The infection was airbourne as well as highly contagious. Symptoms were similar to the flu, including high fevers, vomiting, coughing, as well as a general weakening of the immune system. Due to this epidemic, the US began to collapse. Hospitals were overrun with infected patients, plants and livestock began to perish, which led to the economy's failure. All of the military bases were facing difficulties trying to quarantine the disease, even failing to stop the infection from spreading within their own ranks. There seemed to be no answer, and no cure...

But the worst was yet to come.

It was roughly a week before those who were unfortunate enough to become infected began to show enormous amounts of hostility to family, freinds, and strangers alike. This single infection brought down the entire USA from the inside, as its own citizens were murdering each other out of an unexplained rage.

It's been four weeks since the infection began. Those who were neither killed nor infected have held out and survived in shelters in cities, towns, and rural areas using any means necessary.

Now, follow the story of two survivors as they attempt to survive Hell on Earth.

How long will this game take me to finish?

I would say about an hour and 30minutes or so.
hello infectionfiles,
the game seems pretty realistic to me and the survival style is great!
The battles are tough, too tough for me...
Could you add different difficulty levels?
And where am I supposed to find the generator for the subway?
I can't get any further in the story...

Thank you cakeislife!

Yes, I have been thinking of adding difficulty levels, so stay tuned for that. :)

You can find a generator in two different places, one in the big apartment building at the beginning of the city and one in a house in the furthest lower left of the map.

Keep going with it! :D
Thanks for the hint.
I still can't get anywhere because my characters die all the time xD
Every forced battle costs tons of consumables and once you run out of them...
Is there a place where you can heal yourself infinitely?

Btw, how about placing stuff like newspaper articles around, which explain a little bit of stuff that happened? Could be interesting, considered that our characters don't live in the save zones.

A few tips for battles would be to always make sure you Break Free when you're grappled, use Strong Kick on all enemies with John before you do anything else(unless it's breaking free from a grapple, that's always priority) After battles try to Clean Wounds is you're diseased before you enter another combat, and of course try avoiding battles if you can.
In the next update I'll include a level difficulty between Normal(easier) and Hard(what it is now) the Normal mode will have weakened monsters and have more health items generally as well as making some of them more potent.

EDIT HERE: To answer your question, there is no place to heal yourself for free, or back to full. There is one place, but it is in a cutscene area in a safe-house. Otherwise you're living solely off the land! Be sure to check everything, garbage cans are a big item spot.

As for the newspapers/etc I've thought about it and do have little things you can find to read but nothing really in depth. I've always wanted Infection to be a mystery of sorts.
Never really explaining how it started or how people reacted initially. Story-wise the infection spread very quickly and there just wasn't much normality after it started. Everything shut down because there were no people, besides those who were immune to it.

In an earlier version of the game I was going to go into the backstory more and have an organization that survived the apocalypse, hoping to rebuild the world in their own image. But the idea was a little too big for me and I wanted to finish the game, so ultimately I ended up making it more of a big ol' question mark as to the hows and whys.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm always open to discuss any thoughts you have about Infection!

cakeislife, you're awesome :)
I literally just bought rpg maker 2003 on steam and after playing your game for a bit I think it's safe to say I'm satisfied with my purchase knowing i can create a game of this caliber with rpg maker 2003.On a side note,The game is great although I found it rather difficult.

Wow! That is quite the compliment, Caninemm! :) Thank you very much!

It is difficult, which was intentional for gamers who like a little challenge :p there's going to be an update sometime in the future which might help with that a bit.
A really nice game
I am stuch , i need a code for a door is the building ouside the metro staion after you emerge from it .
What"s the code ?
you should include in the game a auto lockpicking system or a skill

The code can be found in the empty house right next to the subway station on the wall! (Hint: it's a three digit code in white)

And thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying it. :)

There was originally a lockpick skill but the entire lockpicking system was buggy as hell and needs to be fixed and reimplemented.

Edit: though honestly it's not top priority compared to my other projects. I do plan and still am working on a big update for Infection. It will just be awhile until I can update it. :)
so how to open the gate from the park ?
i cant figure the lockpicking systems .

Did you save before at any time before the park gate? Because if you fail it you can't move on. But if you can redo it easily by reloading a save point then you just need to match the columns to the top image. Just mess around with it if you can reload a save file and you'll get it. It's not difficult but it is buggy as I said. The recent version I removed the lockpicking altogether.
i managed to lockpick it.
What about the minigame ?
i cant pss trough it
anyone have a save beyond that point ?

It's abit difficult and the main thing is try to avoid them if you can otherwise you might have to sharpen youe reflexes! Unless someone can help you out here :p
Don't give up!

No, sorry Adina :( You beat the game and that's all there is! It's getting an update at some point in the future that will change some things but that's all.

Check out Kessler's Run if you want more! It's a prequel of sorts following the character Kessler :)
