The year is 2011, and a terrible infection has spread across the United States.

The infection was airbourne as well as highly contagious. Symptoms were similar to the flu, including high fevers, vomiting, coughing, as well as a general weakening of the immune system. Due to this epidemic, the US began to collapse. Hospitals were overrun with infected patients, plants and livestock began to perish, which led to the economy's failure. All of the military bases were facing difficulties trying to quarantine the disease, even failing to stop the infection from spreading within their own ranks. There seemed to be no answer, and no cure...

But the worst was yet to come.

It was roughly a week before those who were unfortunate enough to become infected began to show enormous amounts of hostility to family, freinds, and strangers alike. This single infection brought down the entire USA from the inside, as its own citizens were murdering each other out of an unexplained rage.

It's been four weeks since the infection began. Those who were neither killed nor infected have held out and survived in shelters in cities, towns, and rural areas using any means necessary.

Now, follow the story of two survivors as they attempt to survive Hell on Earth.

Sweet! I look forward to it!
Um, did you change the start of the game? When I load it up now, I'm in a house with Michelle and the Dog, if you leave the house there's nowhere to go and if you re-enter it; the game triggers the "It's nice when things go right, okay let's stay here" cutscene which then ends the game. What happened to the tower-block opening from 3.1?

In either case, it seems like something is broken :(
Sounds like you're at the end of the demo, Sabin.

You're welcome, I'm looking forward to checking out the end result :D
Okay, I finally got around to playing it properly -- and I even managed to finish it! :D It was an insanely hard slog until Michelle hit lv5 and gained the Tend Wounds skill, which then turned everything around. Once she had the ability to heal, it was significantly easier and more manageable. The game is great fun and positively oozes atmosphere, though the initial difficulty curve may put some people off (I lost count of the amount of times I cursed the game, deleted it, then grumbled to myself and re-extracted it.. hehe..) and I'm definitely looking forward to more content.

There were a couple of glitches/issues;

*Infinite dog enemy pack in the 2nd park area, right before the sewers.
*In the same park2 area there is an Infected enemy pack that causes a hard crash saying something like "expected enemy entity does not exist" (sorry, I'm going from memory from earlier) - so I basically had to run away from that enemy else the game crashes.
*The final safehouse causes a script freeze if you try and climb the ladder before entering the house. Jonathan says "we should check the building first" and then it freezes and you can't move.
*The Break Free skill that replenishes around 13HP when breaking grapple status ALSO replenishes HP if you're NOT grappled. I only found this out at the end of the game and was kicking myself for not abusing and exploiting it as free healing at the start of the game :P
*Max level is 10, but you stop gaining abilities at lv5. It's not a glitch, I just thought it seemed a bit dead, progression wise, from 5 to 10.
*There's a huge Inn building that is blocked off and inaccessible, which is a crying shame as something like that would usually be fantastic for exploration, infected bashing and resource gathering ;)

All in all, challenge aside, I really have enjoyed the short demo and think the game has enormous potential. For all the zombie games out there, RPGs are the fewer in number and that's a shame. I'm definitely looking forward to more of this! thanks InfectionFiles, I had a blast.

Yay! Awesome sabin, I'm glad you got through it and when the time comes I'll hope you get frustrated again at the new content! haha, kidding! I hope not...either way it'll be fun! :D

Thanks for the updates, I'll fix the bugs in the park you mentioned as well as the safehouse ladder.
As for Break Free, I've haven't messed with it much to check to see if you are grappled so that if you weren't you didn't gain health. I'll see what I can do, but yeah it is a mini heal spell early on in a way. :P
I'll definitely be adding more skills along the way to 10, just for now in the demo I wanted to keep it simple. Saving the new skills so when I bust out new content and enemies it'll seem more fresh. :)

I'm always down for more expansion! I've tried to open up more buildings and I plan to just for now I'll probably work on more new areas rather than adding.
But I do accept the idea and maybe one day I'll give you that apartment building to explore!

Thank you so much for all the kind words, even if it was difficult you got through it and enjoyed yourself and that's what it is all about for me, so you're welcome!
I'm absolutely looking forward to being frustrated by new challenges, haha! The fact that I kept going back, despite the aforementioned ass kickings, is testament to how much I was drawn in by the game. It's the atmosphere and exploration, mostly, the B&W image nailed that I think - I doubt the game would have been as successful at creating the atmosphere if it was all bright and colourful RTP stuff.

Kudos! ^_^

Just a quick progress report, I've been having a lot of time (and motivation) to work on Infection, and I'm pleased with how things are going. :)
Doing a lot of mapping as well as implementing new skills(even a new low lvl one!) and enemies.

Thanks everybody!
Wahey! Glad to hear it, I can't wait to get back into the game =)

Welll, I'm quite proud of myself as of recent. The entire last week I spent atleast a couple hours a day working on nothing but Infection, getting storyline and mapping done mainly.
And I am happy to say I've completed "Chapter 1" of the game, a great stopping point before you leave the starting region/city.
I always intended to have chapters in Infection, just like the original version.
Plus, it feels nice to have your demo actually have a smooth ending, rather than a cliffhanger or something.

I'll start working on the next part as soon as I can, but I don't know if I'll have a whole lot of time just to sit down and get stuff done.

I have contacted my testers, but if anyone else gives it a try and finds bugs/typos(been a lot of dialogue recently) that I or they have missed, please let me know!

Thanks everyone! :D
*When enemies die, their overworld graphic stays where they died until you change scene, upon which the dead bodies return to their initial spawn point.
*Flurry doesn't seem to do anything any more. The skill is greyed out and unavailable in combat, even against 3-4 opponents.
*Top floor of the building with the generator; the cabinet tiles can be walked over.
*Incidentally, you can't acquire the generator until the game tells you that you need it. It's more realistic, I guess.
*To the right of the inn, in the car park, there's an unpassable tile directly above the bonnet of the top car.
*Same crash in the Park after beating a monster near the sewers entrance; "Event script referenced a monster that does not exist" -- this bug was also present in v3.3
*Unsure if it's part of the scene or a glitch, but after the Natalya flashback encounter, the snow continues into the next scene.
*Menu access is unavailable after the Natalya scene.
*From inside the safe house, you can walk through the wall and onto the ladder outside of the building
*"It's nice when things go right" cutscene loops if you re-enter the building after saying "I'm going for some fresh air"
*Nowhere to go outside. Going off the side or bottom of the screen states "I'd best not go too far" and there's nothing on the roof of the building either.

Basically, the demo can't be finished due to the same cutscene loop bug.

No other issues encountered :)

And thaaank you sabin, I think I fixed them all, maybe besides the Flurry and the park zombie, I just don't see what's wrong with them, although I did change some things so I hope it fixes it.

And when enemies die they do go back to their spots, I probably could find a way to fix it but it's just easier that way. :P
And yes again, you can't get the generator until you need too, that way you can't just go pick it up beforehand.
edit: oh and to continue the "fresh air" scene it's up on the roof further down in the middle, that activates the dialogue, sorry if it's a weird spot. I might end up making more than one point of where you can go and just chill for a moment.

I think I got everything you mentioned, mainly the buggy little stuff, it should be playable and able to continue.

Appreciate the work, soldier :)

EDIT: The download is updated with the fixes!
Always glad to help! I'll grab the new download and finish it off .. same save applicable?

I would think so, not sure.
Okay, seems there are a couple of new issues now..

*The slow walk speed from inside the house has stuck, even when you carry on playing and fighting.
*The "Bleeding" condition causes the afflicted to continue bleeding no matter what action is took. If a zombie attacks, you bleed. If you attack, you bleed. If your team-mates attack, you bleed. If a team-mate is dual-wielding, you bleed twice. It's less "bleeding" and more "haemorrhaging" :D
*You can't cure the "Bleeding" state. Bandages don't work, neither does Tend Wounds/Mend Wounds. You continually lose HP at an alarming rate and eventually die after a few battles.
*The building directly below the safe house has broken tiles, which you can walk over/under, and a teleport along the middle that 'ports you right back to the safehouse.

On the plus side, Flurry works now!

Haha, those are some nasty bugs! I never got the bleeding one, I'll look into it all.
Don't want ya to lose all your blood at once now!

edit: oh, and which house did you mean were the slow walk speed stuck?
The safehouse after the Natalya scene. You start walking slowly during that scene, then you're walking slowly in the house and outside when he says "I'm going for some fresh air" -- and it never goes back to normal.

Ah, okay. Thank you, the walk speed has been tricky sometimes and I forget to revert back! ^^

It should be fixed now, I'll update the download soon. Keep 'em comin!

New download uploaded with all new found bugs gone(even some other hidden ones) and thankfully the game crashing zombie.

Tons of other stuff has been tweaked like items, weapons and character/enemy stats as well.

In a way...Difficulty spike ^ x2

Sorry for the double post!
