I know I knwo - another cancellation of a neat looking project.

This is just me, finally admitting to myself that I don't have the time to devote to everything I want, and this is just one of those things that's sadly going to not make the cut.

If anyone wants the art I made, the tools I used, the story I thought up, or anything, and wants to carry this torch, or their own torch - feel free to message me, and I'll be happy to help you. I'd like to apologize to myself from the past - I let ya down.

And also, thanks to everyone who thought this game looked neat enough to watch! I'm sorry I let ya down.

EDIT: Here's the resources I made

The 2003 project, which got the most way there: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2a9hjqRISDcYXZYRElHbjRSelk

and the VX Ace Project, which got pretty far in porting: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2a9hjqRISDcbEdJVVhSR3lNRVE

If you open those up, you'll notice that there's a lot of dark purple squares: those are supposed to be the same black as the rest of the game - just I turned it purple for mapping ease.

No need to apologize! Keep your time on better projects or more important life things.

Who knows? You could always revive the game in the future with one of RMN' events. :P

Yeah, sorry, buddy :(

It's crummy - I really wanted to make that, and at the time I had so much drive, but got frustrated, then a bit bored, then I had a family, and now I have like a dozen things I want to do and the time to maybe do two of em!

The future is all on you, young people of the world! Strike while the iron is hot!
but I don't wanna pass the torch

I received some interest in my resources, so I put the resources I made up there in the main post. Feel free to use them to your heart's content. It was a lighthearted homage to the king of silliness and humour you would find in an Earthbound game. That's not so unique now as it would have been 7 years ago. The game would have been dark, creepy, light hearted, and mildly unsettling, but for the most part very safe and endearing.

You would only be able to save by letting these Great Mother trees bite you (and if you died, they would drag you back home underground and take half your Moz!) A few races of people: Polons, Daemons, Darkons, and Binons. A world where monsters were getting aggressive, and strange machines roamed unchecked. Water was considered poisonous, and mysteries abounded. I think, overall, it would have been pretty neat. Uuugh, even now I'm still sad admitting that I can't finish it!

Because I had some interest in this shown from various individuals, allow me to share, as my last gift, what the overall story would have been.

Well, basically the overarching story was pretty simple.

The world is full of what you and I would call poison - but that's what the inhabitants now consider natural. It's permanently dim. Something like 'Water' is considered a dangerous toxic substance.

At the beginning of the game, the MC wakes up in a cave, and receives a mysterious message from a being known as o_O-0, which doesn't make sense at first. In the first town, you meet a strange machine down in the gloom that is malfunctioning, and monsters are going crazy when they usually stick to themselves. After having been tasked with planting an H2O bomb at a monster-spawning tree, you see another being that looks like the MC, who runs away.

The rest of the game is you, going from town to town, solving problems and meeting the remainer of the 4 person cast. Another Polon: a battle-baker, a Binon, who receives a strange message to find and help you, and a Daemon, who's just kinda radical.

Skipping ahead, this other being gets in your way often, saying cryptic things about having to stop you 'for her sake'.

Skipping ahead even FURTHER, it turns out that the world is Actually Earth - but in a far far future where it had been rendered completely uninhabitable. Humanity, or their genetic legacy of humanity and the rest of the species of earth had been preserved by humanity's last effort, the caretaker ( O-o_O ), a sentient machine tasked with preserving that material, and doing what it could to clean the earth.

Over time, the AI went on to create life that lived on the poison, and reduced the toxicity of the earth. The plan was to then eliminate that life, and replace it with human and earth life and rebuild the world. However, being a sentient AI, it came to actually love the life it had created more than that of it's creators. But, because of the nature of her mission, she was incapable of contravening those instructions directly. When the earth was at a tipping point for both kinds of life, she was at an impasse.

To circumvent this, she created beings like the Main character. Once that would be able to make the decision for her. If they saw the world, and got to her facility, and spoke with her - they could either choose to repoison the Earth, letting the cycle continue once more, or finally allow humans to repopulate the Earth.

The player is presented with a choice. They can either A) Re-poison the Earth, and allow the final piece of the circle of life to be released as well, permanently cementing Polonic life as the life form of Earth, or B) Finally allowing Humans to reclaim the earth. She loves both her children, and the humans. So, no matter which you choose, you will have to fight her. Her programming will force her to stop you from re-poisoning the earth. And her love will stop you from destroying Polonic life. And that is what the other being was trying to stop - by keeping the MC from the AI, it was preventing a decision from being made - to save the AI.

Personally? I'd save Polonic life. But, that's just me!
Weird. I had a story with similar themes on the backburner for a while.

I called it Android Dryad, and basically humans killed themselves off via poisoning but instead of an AI attempting to restore the world like in yours, it was an ancient 'Gaia' entity trying to clean up the mess by sending out its faerie creatures to eradicate all traces of humanity. And although humans were gone, its sentient AIs and semi-sentient robots remained, and resisted being wiped out. An ongoing war has ensued between faeries and AIs.

The story was going to be about a Dryad who came across and accidentally "turn on" a very humanoid Android who happened to have the entirety of human DNA within it (or something similar that would be critical to reviving the human race). The Dryad is faced with a choice and thought to end the war between faerie and AI somehow with this Android and they would have to traverse a hostile landscape to speak with Gaia...or something to that effect. I didn't flesh it out.
