Miscellaneous

Just for the hell of it.

I thought I'll give a short reflection. It's been around for months and I feel guilty for it sitting around in my profile feeling like a neglected child, does this happen to anyone? Anyhow I wasnt really intending for it to be a super serious game it was more like having abit of fun with the maker, hence why there were spelling mistakes every now or then, I did learn alot about the use of pictures and the many ways I can use them.

I believe that the general concept has alot of potenial like imagine a whole game where you can guide the storyline in any direction you choose, I'll proberly take a stab at it a few years down the line but saying that it'll take a fricking long time to make. My spriting skills have improved alot since i released this, for example my charsets no longer look like their doing the splits whilst walking. I'm thinking of making another short game soon along the lines of a game inspired by clock of atonement... I'm going through a makersblock on The Lost Girls so this might happen sooner than you think.

In hindsight I regret giving this game a confusing cliffhanger and not treating it more seriously but oh well hopfully everything comes full circle once I release my next game, when I get some free time of course 8(

And it's here =D

Well after the contest had ended, I thought I'll do a remake with slight improvements.
It took me around two weeks to do but I'm more or less proud of the end result. I did start to lose interest near the end though.. but I hope you see I had abit of fun with it at some parts :P

What's new?
-Graphical overall.
-A brand new Introduction.
-3 new areas
-A incredible wtf plot twist, thats totally out of place.
-A boss battle of sorts
-Camo characters from Waking Dead. Which has a Plot-link to Chapter 3
-Objective pop ups
- A few more save points.
-Dialogue fixes.
-The two endings given a rehash, with a third "true" ending if you complete it.

Whats bad!
-20 minutes of playtime.. hence why the story is too fast paced.
-The boss can be difficult if your a complete idiot
-Dialogue is still average.. I was pretty much making it up as I went along
-A few massive map glitches
-You problery won't get the story for now.. but It'll make more sense in the coming months ;o
-Brunos walking animation
-Choices in the flat are exactly the same as before =/

And some little news..
The reason why I actually remade this was simply because that my other game Waking Dead has quite a large mythology, I've been playing around with the story for the last 6years now! Originally a rejected screenplay before I discovered rpgmaker a year ago and shifted onto there, anyway I'm planning on making a few more prequels, sidestories near the end of the year... Before finally getting Waking Dead out there in early 2011. So yeah hopfully see some radical activity from me soon.

It starts today..

I started doing the remake today so far I sprited out the main character, which took around 2hours. My only issue so far is how it looks when walking left to right.

As it's a game thats pretty much 5minutes long I thought I'll concentrate on dialouge rewrites and a graphical revamp more than everything and now that I'm out of the comfinement of the one room contest I can now expand on the story a little bit more =D

And now I'm getting to work with this little man
WIP

This remake will proberly be all done by next week, the few expansions will be a new intoduction, the endings redone and more choice possiblitys in the flat. But I might change my mind and make it a full 3 hour game.. I don't know >.<

Suggestions

I've been thinking of improvements that I should do. The contest version is very basic storywise so I'm planning on doing a completely new story from scratch whilst still using the basic gameplay style but with a few twists implemented.

The current version pretty much has 5 different ways to die that result in the bad ending and 4 ways to get to the good ending. I realised that this gameplay style would fair alot better in a full length game rather than just one room. I'll give a exampleIn the contest version when you do die, you get the automatic bad ending.. but let's just say that in a full version if you do die you take perspective of a new character investigating the death of your previous avatar. Also what i took note from the awards is that the cutscenes were too long and the the dialouge was... crap, thats time limits after all ;'(
And prehaps make the game more interactive with it more focused on the sections where you have more control and just use the choice system for set pieces only.

I dunno I need a long think about what I want to do with this.

A little dev note

Thanks for accepting =D
I was a little unsure about submiting but I thought why not, I proberly will do a expanded version that'll have a few extra scenes and stuff but I'm back at college now so it'll be some time after my other projects. I planned this on saturday afternoon and got to work on sunday morning. I made the iris sprite some time ago but I didnt wanted to cram her into waking dead as a npc so I found the contest as a good oppitunity to find a place for the sprite. The direction I was going for was a watered down version of Heavy rain, I had planned for a alternative method for the bad ending where you would turn on the gas cooker to blow up the apartment.. but I got little fed up with eventing for 6hours in a row and had to cut it out :(

I don't know what to make of this game. I'm proud of it, yet at the same time I'm utterly ashamed that I didnt do more D= Anyway I hope it would be enjoyed for what it is. Thanks
