Encephalitus

Welp, I reposted this download too. Again, why should I hide these? I don't use 2k and 2k3 anymore, but it doesn't mean I should bury the games while keeping a game page up here.

Using ripped mp3s is totally and completely wrong and I am disgusted at myself for doing this all those years ago, and I will be correcting that in a future update.

I guess that's all there is to say. I might complete the sequel just to get 'er done. We'll see.

Bug Fix

Somehow, the job crystal was set to one use and nobody told me :P I'm not sure how that happened, to be honest, but it's fixed now.

500 downloads!

10 months later, The Encephalon has reached its 500-download mark!

In these past months, the only change I've made is the inclusion of a job change "item", as the old secondary command was quite glitchy. 2k3 secondary commands that are linked to common events have a tendency to loop at unexpected times.

If I made this game now with the same time frame and scope, I'd do two things differently: (1) allocate a few minutes to coding touch encounters instead of random, and (2) develop the story a bit more. The latter would probably add an hour to the dev-time, but oh well!

I haven't forgotten about this concept, even though The Encephalon II has been on hiatus since, basically, last October. Nevertheless, I have a little special something planned for those who actually gave this game a shot, despite its RTP-ness and short development cycle.

And, who knows, I'm probably one sick day away from finishing The Encephalon II...

Job Change Bug Fixed

I finally fixed the job change bug by tying the job change common event to an item instead of a battle command. The result should be a more seamless experience.

I also fixed a couple other minor inconsistencies. Nothing big. New download posted.

Given the timeframe of development, I'm looking for some last-minute suggestions. Anything you'd like to see added/removed/changed for Encephalon II?

Class changes outside of battle?

How would y'all feel about being able to change classes OUTSIDE of battle? The only major benefit to this is having extra healers, and transitioning into battle with a party of buffers/debuffers or something. It kind of gets away from the pre-battle "balance" I wanted...but what are your thoughts?

Liberty's LT

Liberty has kindly finished a great Let's Try of this game. I've fixed some of the issues she came across, as well as that annoying gauge system. Here it is!

I'll go ahead and update the time to 16 hours :D

I'll be adding some warps in the cave that activate after the elf-like miniboss. I'll also try to fix that occasional job change loop glitch. The gauge system will be replaced with the traditional; this way, players can see status effects as well as the enemy they're actually targetting.

I know it's a one-shot short story-of-an-RPG that probably won't receive high marks, but I'd still like to see reviews. It would be interesting to get formal feedback for a timed project. Easy review, since it's only an hour-long game!
