Guy
Guy is based on me. You can call me “S”. I’m a cynical atheist who can’t seem to help but surround myself with spiritual (not necessarily religious in a traditional sense) groups of people. He was really just designed as a foil to Dude, someone that Dude could play his snide jokes off of (although somewhere in episode 2, these stopped being jokes and Dude became a very serious bigot, which I thought was much funnier). Guy quickly evolved into an interesting character in that we sort of experience these events through his eyes. He’s meant to ground the show now, offering us some real perspective on things. The reason the show was hurt so bad at the beginning was because he had yet to develop in this way, and the irony of the situations could easily be lost on typical audiences. Once this perspective had been established, I believe it really helped later episodes.

Dude
Based on a friend (who also writes for the show, we’ll call him “M”), this guy basically starts every conversation with the most ridiculous concept imaginable, and it progresses from there. That’s exactly how this all started, I wanted to document some of those ridiculous conversations. The bigotry side of the character, is based on a character that M impersonates every now and then (mostly while drunk), although he is completely not serious while doing so. Dude soon changed from being M as a whole, to M in character, and took his racist/sexist duties quite seriously. He’s basically our ideal asshole republican, vying for power and control while staying ignorant to virtually everything and everyone around him.

JC
Based off a flashback writer for the show, we’ll call him “B”. JC is perhaps the most unpredictable character in the entire series. He’s been around for over 2000 years, and he’s the tool I used to solidify the flashback scenes into the format of the show. While mostly used solely as a tool at the beginning of the series, he later evolved into a lazy, ignorant, uncaring leader with a few quirks of his own.

Man
I had an invisible man sprite that I wanted to use. I thought it would be interesting to feature an invisible character, and that’s how it all began. I also wanted to have a “secret” of how he became that way in order to establish some sort of a backstory to this group. The plan was to slowly reveal how it happened throughout the show, just to draw people in to his character a bit more. Originally, he was sort of like the softer side of my own personality, but I struggled to keep him that way. Now he’s just the annoying one, a role he took over from Fucktard when he got killed off.

Fucktard
Again, I had a sprite that I wanted to use of Solid Snake hiding in a box. Naturally, that made me think of schizophrenics, and Fucktard was born. It was a nice little joke at first, but he quickly became boring, so I killed him off.

Buddy
This is a fun character to write. I knew I needed to replace Fucktard, and adding an effeminate male really helps the other characters play off him. Most people will probably wonder, is he actually gay? He’s stereotypically what you’d expect from a hardcore Christian closet gay, but ya know, I’m not too concerned with establishing a truth there. It really doesn’t matter, does it? The sheer fact that every other character is so locked in on getting an answer goes to show how prejudiced we are as a society. Who people are, it’s really none of our business, so why do we care so much (or pretend to)?
