The comics are coming!

Here's the first preview of the comic adaptation of the New Disciples. Yes, we have a professional in the group. The title will probably also change from season 1 to volume 1.

The pages are looking pretty awesome so far. I'm working on the drawings right now and I've completely rewritten the entire first episode, which now reflects the style of season 2 (better characterization, long flashbacks have been cut, more punchlines with less explanations, etc). Reworking episode 2 right now. The comic format is proving to be much more effective than RM ever was!

As for the art style, I'll post some images VERY soon.

In Defense of The New Disciples

There has been some interesting criticism of this show and its humor, and I decided that I would like to take the time to sit down and hammer out the facts, while shedding light upon the nature of the jokes and the reasons or messages behind each individual scene.

The New Disciples, as a group, represents the Christian religion, its leaders, its ideals and ideas. By doing so, my aim was to emphasize Christianity’s history of intolerance, and its confusion over the evolution of social norms through the various conflicts and situations highlighted in each episode. We’re not meant to agree with their point of views. The comedic aspect lies in the irony of such misguidance, and the ridiculousness of what the characters represent as a whole.

If you don’t know the bible very well, you aren’t going to understand lots of the flashbacks and references. I have written a guide to understanding them on the game page to try and prove that we’re not just pulling these seemingly random pieces out of our asses. Each scene has a specific purpose to satirize Christianity, political agendas, social conflicts, and religious views as a whole.

Whether you think it's funny or not, it really sucks for me to keep hearing that it's all random crap that has nothing to do with commenting on social problems and religious topics. I will write about EVERY SCENE in defense of this work, at least so that people will stfu about it on the forums. There are some who have tried to get this project kicked off the site for being nothing but offensive or stupid. I assure you, it stands for something whether you want to hear it or not.

Episode 1's commentary chapter is now available. I would urge everyone to at least take a peak.

Coming Along

Two full eps down, four to go! I figured I'd update for those who care, since I'm hung over and bored. There's so much to cram into this season, especially having all three of us writing for it full time. I like the direction this season is taking, as the characters are a lot better drawn out and actually have a level of complexity to them. Guy and Dude have always had a very complicated friendship, one that neither would ever admit to, despite spending all their time together watching tv. We get to see how that pans out when a girl comes between them.

As we showed a friend the series for the first time last night, something became apparent. She loved it, and now wants her own character in it, but I myself saw some flaws with the first episode particularly. The flashbacks were too long and drawn out, and don't quite relate to the scenes they're a part of. The characters weren't quite who they would come to be. There are some out of character moments. Basically, it just took a while to find the feel of it all. It isn't that I hated the pilot ep, I just think it's a lousy introduction to the characters and the series in general, and pretty much any other episode would have done a better job.

So, we came up with a cool idea for a movie version of ND which would show how everyone came together to be a part of JC's team. We won't make it until were done season 2, but it'll pretty much be like a prequel season without the DVD interface.

Real Heroes is still kinda halted, I need some new ideas before I get back to it.

Season 1 of ND will get an updated version soon, as many people are having trouble getting it up and running. A common problem with rm2k for users without rtp installed, text problems, etc.

Real Heroes and Season 2

Development on The Real Heroes spinoff is moving kinda slow. It requires a lot more physical movement than new disciples did, so our technical expert has had a bunch of stuff dumped on him. He's working on actual games too, so I can't expect him to drop everything just to program my shit for me (even though it was his idea in the beginning).

We're bouncing back and forth some great ideas for season 2. My fellow developers will be more involved in this season, so it'll be great to see how it all turns out. I'm using new character sets and chipsets as well, and I'll probably focus more on making it look nicer this time around. It's not something that I care much for, but why the hell not. So far we have 7 premises, and we need to cut it down to fit 6 episodes or somehow meld them together. We have a total of 16 flashback scenes written as well, including the tower of babel, the moon landing, jc's resurrection, and a whole bunch of other hilarious shit.

There haven't been too many angry letters thus far, nor death threats. Maybe we'll change that this time around.

Guy's Blog #2

Guy, again,

This has been officially released! I recommend not reviewing this upon finishing it, as I realize there are many ACTUAL games here that need that kind of attention. I refuse to apologize for the slanted liberal sentiments in this show, as my colleagues represent elite conservativism enough as it is. I expect a sort of community backlash against this project from both sides, so I’d like to tell you all to shut up ahead of time.

I like it here at RMN, and I’d like the show to remain hosted here for as long as possible without threats of banning or complaints or anything. I believe there’s a positive message buried deep beneath the surface of these philosophical conversations, even if I’m the only voice of reason in the whole thing. I’ll monitor Dude’s writings here to make sure he doesn’t get us kicked off, but I can’t watch him 24/7.

On a final note, I’m working on both the second season and the semi-spinoff called THE REAL HEROES.

Guy's Blog #1

Guy here.

I just wanted to point out a few things about it before the download is up.

1) Most of the events depicted in this show actually happened. I took a few liberties here and there just because I was bored.
2) This special DVD set includes 6 full episodes but no extra features. This game page is more of an extra than you deserve.
3) Season 2 is on the way.
4) I don’t respond to hate mail. Dude might, however.
5) If you attempt legal action, J.C. WILL condemn you to hell.
6) If you feel the need to criticize, you’re a nerd.

Seeing as how I have much more important matters to attend to, I maybe won’t be back here for a while. If you have any problems loading the game, you need RM2K RTP. I’ll be back with season 2 and the numerous spin-off shows that are in the works.
