No, not that sort of barn fun.

The deceptive and slightly disturbing title notwithstanding this short game was an entry for the now defunct RMXPunlimted game in a day competition, and as such not a great deal of depth can be expected from it. The contest rules were simple, make a game in a day using just the RTP. DarkGamer chose to go down the linked mini game route and therefore crafted a game that requires you to aid the animal inhabitants of the barn in either their assigned jobs, or their preferred hobbies in order to obtain the key to get out of the barn that Skylo the wonder child has somehow managed to get himself trapped within.

Hey no one ever said main characters have to be geniuses...or speakers of the English.

Four of the five available mini-games, horse, eagle (though really who has eagles in a barn) rooster, cat and dog are dependent on having completed one or more of the other ones. The first game that can be tried is rooster, where you help the rooster hunt down and eat a bunch of frogs as they are trying desperately to avoid being whacked as they pop out of their holes in the ground. The reward for aiding this amphibian mass murderer is a milk jar which then allows you to attempt the cat mini-game and so forth until you've finally made it all the way to the eagle game and can get the key to get out of the barn. Though since the opening dialogue seems to indicate that you've been arrested, I'm not quite sure what is waiting outside the barn is any better than being stuck in it. At least the animals can keep you company, and once you've defeated a mini-game the first time you can replay it again if you enjoyed it enough to do so.

I'm sorry, can you say that again?

There is no menu option in the game, all saves are post or pre mini-game via the obvious save crystal, and the items you receive at the end of each successful mini-game are probably just carried in your hot little hands. The graphics and sound are all RTP as outlined in the contest requirements, so don't expect any surprises there and as the entirety of the gameplay is reflex puzzle based there are no battles, level or equipment either.

In the end Barn Fun, isn't really what it says in the tin, it is indeed in a barn, though a very Spartan one but the level of fun depends on your preference for reflex games and tolerance of atrocious English. Mine is relatively low for both, and as such it wasn't a lot of fun. Luckily it wasn't very long either. Even with some of the slightly awkward movements needed to complete the mini-games I finished it in around 10 minutes.

If a quick and mindless mini-game compilation is your thing, give this a go, otherwise I'd suggest you move along to something with a bit more content.
