This game was created as an entry for experimentalgameplay.com's monthly programming challenges. October's challenge was for male programmers to make a "girl game", and for female programmers to make a "boy game".

I therefore sought to create a game that would appeal to girls, but I think Small World can appeal to anyone!

Though I would consider this a role-playing game, there are no battles; no grinding to level X, or discovering super-hidden secrets. You are presented a world and encouraged to explore it. As you travel and meet other creatures, the game - and its goal - will reveal itself.

Part of experimentalgameplay.com's challenge is that programmers take no more than 7 days to make the game. Small World was created in about 5. It is therefore a short game. From watching other people play Small World, the game seems to take about one hour to complete if I keep my mouth shut, and barely half an hour if I don't :P

terrible bug!

rabitZ brought a bug in v1.1 to my attention... it's a mapping bug that can get you stuck in the wall, unable to complete the game!

this bug did not exist in my initial release for experimentalgameplay.com, but when I updated some of the maps, I also moved some around... if I had been a good little developer I would have completely re-tested the game after making these changes, and noticed the bug, but I did not!

so I have uploaded a new version to fix this bug, but not only that: as I said in my previous post, I've been working on adding new areas and new characters that can join you. so in addition to the fix, you also get a new area with new statues and a new playable character!

enjoy; sorry about the bug, and thanks again rabitZ for bringing it to my attention!

where do I download this? :)

EDIT: This game is wicked cool haha!
Why is this listed as complete, when there isn't a download? As a corollary, if it is complete can you please post a download link?
yes, sorry: I was waiting for the game's submission to be approved. or could I have uploaded a download while waiting? I'm new to rpgmaker.net, and not very familiar with the system.

anyway, I've uploaded the game... the file lists as "pending". hopefully it's available soon :)
this game runs windowed for me and on my old comp i let the kids use it runs very slow and never had this prob b4 with Rpg maker games
hm. I'm not sure what would cause that, but I am by no means an RPG Maker expert. maybe someone else here can tell us more.

I did have to do a little trickery to get the game to start up in windowed mode. if full screen mode has always given you better performance, though, it's easy to switch between windowed and full screen mode: the key combination ALT+ENTER should do the trick.
hmmm I found it to be a small game, with a few puzzles ... I like it but wish there was more to do.
Ps... I beat the game in ten minutes. =3
