RPG 20XX is a redesign of RPG Maker 20XX... Which was an upgrade replacement for RPG Maker 2003's engine. This newer engine will have nothing to do with the RPG Maker series of engines apart from the familiarity of the editor and engine features.

RPG 20XX should provide lots of advanced features yet remain faithful to the retro scale of RPG Maker 2003. It should not require actual writing of program scripts and instead provide a clever implementation of a click-together event scripting system similar to the older RPG Maker engines. Most notably the ability to re-adjust the battle calculations purely through event scripting.

Lots of common tedium and annoyances of RPG Maker 2003 should be eliminated. RPG 20XX will provide global battle events for all battles, a quest system, simplified character development, local save variables per event, and other simple conveniences.

All of this is currently licensed under the MIT license so you can check out the source code any time if you really wanted to. It will be a community project, free as in price and in freedom to create the RPGs in a fun familiar way like you always wished RPG Maker 2003 could do these days.

RPG 20XX Asset Starter Pack

First things first, I'll need to gather stock assets to create RPG 20XX's default asset pack. It's like an RTP except "Run Time Package (RTP)" doesn't make sense here since all required assets get built into .2xg files and players of your game won't have to go download it separately. I'm organizing what I had found before with what I can find off stock asset sites, but I think maybe the RPG creation kit that was born on RMN ought to have assets from the community.

If you have assets you're willing to contribute that have lots of "Generic RPG Energy", let me know. You'll need to license them under a creative commons license so we can all use them. Don't worry about formatting, I'll convert them, just make sure they're drawn to 16x16 pixel tile scale.

The resulting asset pack will have all of the sources cited even when attribution isn't a requirement, so be sure to let me know how you want to be credited and if there's links to something you want to include.

Anything simple and easy to map with but with an appealing retro generic RPG look is great. Here's an example I made using art I found elsewhere:

I'm completely certain I'm doing something wrong, but this crashes every time I try to use it. My system isn't giving me any specifics; it just tells me "WolfCoder's RPG RM20XX Engine has stopped working".

I was supposed to just extract the stuff into the games' folder, right?
Yes, it does this for some games now and this is a new issue. If you send me a ZIP of your game using e-mail or something, I can fix this error.
Someone should make a mega-man RPG with this. You know, 20xx.
Oh, hello. First, I would like to congratulate the work to improve the RPG Maker 2K / 3. There are a lot of people who still prefer to use these engines, and it's really nice to see that there are tools like this that make it possible to break the limitations.

So, I can still make suggestions here? One of the first things I would suggest (although I do not know if this is possible) is a major support for use charsets. There is a patch made by Cherry that enables the use of charsets with bigger sizes, but is not very intuitive and contains some problems. Being able to use charsets in higher dimensions would be great.

I would also suggest new functions to graph facesets, something like:
(N°) Faceset Draw (ID,X, Y, N, ) - Where ID follows the same explanation for the "Draw Image" in Faceset folder, X and Y are the positions and N is the face number on the Faceset (from 1 to 16).

I would suggest also a command to draw Charsets (which would be useful in customized menus for example), but as the number of parameters is limited to 4 probably would not have as much control as well (In addition to the ID, X and Y coordinates and the character ID on the Charset, there must be a parameter to control the direction frame and possibly a option to draw it with walk animation). So this idea could be discarded.

These are some humble suggestions. Forgive me for possible mistakes in grammar, I do not speak English fluently. I hope that the project remains alive and continues to improve, see ya!
O.K., mine isn't working, can you please make a tutorial/video on how to set it up...because I'm doing what the adobereader says...and it isn't working...
Unable to test play due to a fatal error in Project Compilation.
How ya gonna fix/not do jackshit about THAT one Wolfy?
PROJECT HAS MOVED:

Page itself: http://meridiandance.org/?page_id=2790

Wolfcoder doesn't live here anymore. We keep getting his mail, though :/
Is anyone still in contact/get in contact with WC to check on the status of this thing? As far as it goes, it seems as if 'this project was moved' equals 'expect no more updates, because updates were almost daily here, but I haven't heard of any technical updates or anything from MD or DreamInCode.

I was hesitant about the project being moved because I speculated that I wouldn't hear about it again, and welp, that's what happened. I am almost sure that WC is still working on this, but it would be nice to get updates.

It was updated pretty recently with a bug fix on Begin Jump events and having a picture remain even on the game over screen. But other than that, I don't think too much work was done on RM20XX itself lately so that's why there weren't as much updates. Still, if anyone has bugs to report from trying out RM20XX, feel free to send them to WC on the other sites I guess or on the bug channel (I think there's one, not sure if it's still there).

On another note, Rubi is playable from start to finish on it now.
I definitely respect whatever WC's decisions are as well as the frequency of updates in terms of working on this and ultimately getting off the ground (I hope!). It's just frustrating not being able to have a solid, reliable spot to get updates on the project. It goes without saying that a lot of people are looking forward to this and even more people are following the progress on this.

It sucks to see the solid foundation for the project scatter to the four winds, and it has yet to see a comparable replacement.
You just need to gather all the crystals to get the updates in one place.

Looked it up, it is a bit all over the place, last article : 9/28, not so bad... Maybe she's more focused on Americana Dawn, beautiful, very complete site on the game with last post dating from today, here :http://thelonggoodbye.bitbonton.com/, don't know how many people have seen this.

Oh, my bad:/
So I've talked to WolfCoder recently...

And the project still continues on. One of the things he mentioned is that too many people are looking forward to the project and yet not enough people are actually testing the project and trying to do things with it. The best and fastest way to get this project off the ground is to actually download it and mess around with it; try to do stuff with it and play around with its features, and list out the bugs and what you find to WC.

I am obviously not in a position to speak too much on his behalf or whatever, but that's pretty much the word. My only problem, and I'm sure I'm not alone on this, is exactly how to use RM20XX's features. A lot of the instructions on utilizing its features and possibilities seem like mumbo-jumbo to me. Perhaps we can put our minds together and figure this out between all of us?
Still looking forward to this. Glad its being updated.
Yes. You will find that this game page will be buzzing with more updates now that we the people have the power to do so.
