The fire always burns

Well, there hasn't been many posts here in a while. I find myself telling the members of Meridian Dance directly in the IRC channel recently. I've been thinking about it for a while, and I've decided to move all my projects to Meridian Dance and Dream.in.code. News won't be as often but the project won't slow down too much. Actually, having school and everything increases the speed slightly.

I suggest you subscribe to my Youtube account since I will also be posting videos of my other projects along with 20XX. Joining Dream.in.code is nice but not necessary, you can just read my project log there for updates (I think it has an RSS feed). You have choices~ Dream.in.code will often be the destination of my front-end and technical posts while Meridian Dance will contain more artistic and design posts.

Dream.in.code: http://www.dreamincode.net/
Meridian Dance: http://meridiandance.org/

My projects will slowly continue on. They will progress fast when I'm not playing Minecraft. Of course if you want to play Minecraft along with me you can IM me for me to start the server and give you the IP. IM is also a good way to ask me direct questions as well as the IRC channel for 20XX and Meridian Dance.

AIM: wolfcoder
Yahoo: umbracoder
MSN: wolfcoder (at) dreamincode.net

20XX Irc: irc.esper.net #20xx
Meridian Dance irc.esper.net #meridiandance

If you want to know the details of this decision, feel free to ask me directly personally (not here of course, I won't be here to read my inbox).

Anyone who's currently interested in RM20XX could, yeah, but there's always the potential for more interested (too lazy to look up a thesaurus, sorry) people who chance upon WC's project through a directly-related website (i.e. RMN). S'all about demographics.

Then they can follow the re-direct link, but I don't understand your exact problem. People who find this place by accident are just as likely to find MD by accident. Furthermore, Dreamincode's visitor base far exceeds this site's. Giving the engine proper exposure is not going to be an issue.

Look, you're the first guy to tell me I didn't look like a ghoul; so I'm not calling you a vacuous imbecile right now; but be reasonable and try to look at this objectively.

Who are you talking to?

It was directed at you.
Maybe we should all just stop talking about this. Sounds like WC's mind is made up by this point. Let's just roll with it now.

I would say that his deciding to leave was for purely subjective reasons -- he doesn't like the site or community (maybe both), and most of his friends have moved on. That's cool. Objectively it's probably not the best situation for the upstart RPG Maker 20XX engine. Its homebase at Meridian Dance is nowhere near as easy to find "by accident" as rpgmaker.net. If you're not one of the core members there, or know one of them, the place doesn't exist. You won't find it on google or other search engines looking for common RPG Maker related terms, where as it is pretty popular here and has generated a lot of dicussion. Dream.In.Code is a huge community but it's almost entirely geared towards programmers helping programmers. Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt many programmers are in need of a replacement engine for RPG Maker 2003. It's not a place your average rm2k/3 user would search to find cool things.

Anyways, best of luck WolfCoder.

Which after reading that, I feel the program will just die out. If he gets it done, more power to him. But after reading what you had just said, rcholbert, it'd most likely go into a list of game engines that go unnoticed. It'd better suit his actual project, to keep this updated. He doesn't have to like 24/7, but the best thing to do is update it every now and then. Maybe even have someone he talks to on here, off-site wise, I mean, update it for him, by him telling them what to add/take-off, if he is done being a part of the community. It would be a shame if RPG Maker 20XX goes to the bottom with the other engines that never see the light of day.
Thiamor, while I feel that WC should stay, your attitude is completely counterproductive to the type of place that we want to foster. You're basically driving people away. You realize that a bunch of people who may be on the fence about registering still read this page, right? What kind of image are you projecting?

I disagree, if only for the subjective reasons. If he doesn't want to be here, he should go. We've seen far too often what happens when people decide to just fester here after they should have long since moved on. It's not good for anyone involved. Whatever becomes of RPG Maker 20XX is up to WolfCoder, but I know there are lots of users here still interested in it wherever it is hosted.
Hey guys its not like this page is going to suddenly vanish into the X-Void. People are going to stumble across this page whether or not I am here and the download button will always be the latest version.

What image? The image that I want to speak my opinion. Whether or not it is seen as good or bad, or liked or hated doesn't concern me in the least. An opinion doesn't at-all have to be liked by others to be an opinion, or else this world would be shitty, and probably blown the Hell up already.

I know people will read this, and my points make perfect sense to me, and I'm sure others, too. But my last post isn't even the crudest of them all. Are you talking about that, the others, or everything I've posted recently on this topic?

The last one, is just that I think if he is joining a site not known by much, and another mainly used for programmers, then most people over time will eventually forget about this, and his RPG Maker would fade out slowly. Not really die out, but just be in a list of forgotten makers.

Yeah. If he wants to leave, he can leave. As it is his choice. But it still is my right and my choice to speak on the matter. This is made public, after all. Unless this is the type of stuff you don't want. Free speech. People who are opinionated enough to speak out when they feel something is wrong. Yup. I can see how that can ruin things.

@rcholbert
I don't disagree about his leaving as it is his choice. I just think he shouldn't say nothing good comes from this site, and just don't 'like' that he is gonna leave and not have some sort of updates on here. Many will follow him, yet many won't. There are those on the fence about whether to go on the site, or not, who would still love if he updated this, along with the others. This site needs a thing like Facebook has that lets people do wall posts from other places. Replace Wall post with 'updates' on his stuff from other sites

Like I said before, I totally have implored WC personally to stay. However if it's time to move on, so be it. I respect that. That being said, I still respect WC as a person and as a fellow maker, and as far as the program is concerned, I'll still follow it and represent. I'll give it props in the development cycle of my game, and I even plan to make my own game in the program and link back to where you can find it and WC.

Like I told WC, it's bigger than just the site its hosted. We're all here to make games and help each other. Let's keep it at that and leave the attacks at the door.

Also, your attitude is probably one of the reasons that WC wants to leave in the first place, if not others. Just because you can say something, doesn't mean you should say it. It's called tact. Congratulations!

I don't understand, who wouldn't want to be a part of a community of petulant fucksticks who lash out at people for leaving their community?
*for insulting their community.

People do take exception to that.
I would not have minded direct links to the project pages on both Meridian and Dreamincode. Because I can't really find anything (especially on dreamincode, that site is probably what RMN4 seems like at first glance!).

I think Holbert summed it up pretty well and I don't really have much to add to that (thanks Holb). If WolfCoder wants to leave (or anyone else for that matter), fair enough, but one should really be logical about such things before making hasty decisions.

When I am not in a bad mood I am nothing if not as objective as possible. With regards to the ghoul thing, that is because you do not look like a ghoul. Believe in yourself...Nightblade...

yes, this!

I can't believe I didn't know about this place (then again, I haven't really programmed in over 2 years)

I don't even program that much, but as I'm starting a CS course next month I'll probably greatly benefit from the site.
