Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

@Astaroth

Well, one thing I like to do is have a dedicated item-user, aka someone who doesn't do anything but use items. He/she acts as a healer/buff'er while the others do all the attacking. Maybe you can try that?

Well I did. I mainly just had green use the Breakdown items but I still ended up dying in the end. Do I just need to farm some money and buy mass amounts of healing stim fields and high power items (bolt chasms etc...) Or do I put two characters on the items instead of one?
I'm playing this i'm so horny and playing this XD
So cyber-techno atmosphere and great characters.
Must playing still playing !
I'm drunk with this !

Multi-hit abilities + G.U.A.R.D.I.A.N = win. 1100 per hit, regardless of anything - even works on bosses when "invincible." And yea, Erin + vice, or so many other combinations of modes and AP or EX boosters allow her to heal every other round, which is pretty overpowered. I tried using pulsar and an ex boost gear on Erin, giving her 4 ex every turn she used an ability on the hopes that she could heal EVERY turn instead of every other, but unfortunately it adds the ex before it takes ex away for the ability, so it caps out at 5 and then four is taken away, bringing her ex down to 1, and then the one from the ex boost gives her 2 ex instead of four. So that still didn't allow a heal EVERY turn. But that did allow for second aid every other turn.

Yeah, there's a lot of handy combinations like this. Indy + G.U.A.R.D.I.A.N + Chaos makes her pretty incredibly overpowered. She can use Vampire every other turn and deals 5500 every time she does, and recovers 550 HP for every use of Vampire or Drain. I still have her at a pretty low level, but once she has a decent level, she'll be hard to take down.
celia is awesome, her aether breaker ability pwns. and pretty good plot twist at the end of phase 4, didn't see that one coming.

Here's another thing: If you defeat Lavitz, the other two will run off. So try concentrating solely on her. Play around with your equipment and see if you can come up with some combo's. You shouldn't really need to grind any.

Worst case scenario, just use Casual Mode to get through. That's what it's there for. (and the Lavitz fight is definitely one of the harder ones in the game, so don't feel bad if you need to resort to this).

For anyone who's beaten the game, see if you can't find any of the secrets. You might be surprised.. ;)

EDIT: For starters, there's a bit more to No Man's Land 2 than you might expect.
Wow, you could seriously beat lavitz to end that battle? I wish I knew that before trying that battle 15 times. Sometimes the trio attacks so quickly with powerful attacks that I have no time to react, even if I atk crushed all of them. Being that lavitz randomly used that self heal, I figured it would be a better idea to save her for last.
Wow I actually tried to kill Lavitz first because her hits are painful. Good thing! :D
I killed lavitz first because it was the least amount of keys needed to be pressed in order to win the fight. so worth it

Sorry I wasn't of much help through the beta Neok, just way too busy lately. Seriously only had like 5 hours sleep for the past 3 days. Anyways still haven't finished this haha sadly. If only I could put Rpgmaker games on my PSP or iPod and play on the go.

Actually quick question, now that this is finished, are you going to be taking a break or starting something else?
I'm working full-time right now, as well as living on my own, so I don't really have that much time to toss into game-making these days. For the moment, I guess I'm just making preparations for AAV, while waiting for some feedback on what works and doesn't work in AAG.

I dunno, I've been considering getting into flash and/or RMK VX, but I'm worried about how much time I really have to spend on this. At this rate, I may just do AAV on 2k3 after all. I dunno, we'll see.
First, I want to thank Neok and his team for creating such a great game.

(I don't know how to use spoiler tags here, so I'll try not to give too much away in my question.)

I managed to get to the O.P. Lv. 4, and can't seem to be able to advance any further at the moment. From the clues given it seems like I have to get all the extra abilities and do something with a big red/black figure. Problem is, I don't really know where to start looking for this figure, and I also wonder if there's a way to mark areas with extra abilities ( like the unique syncs in the Pan. ).
NEOK I HATE YOU SO MUCH
UNDERWATER FACILITY RINGS A BELL?!?!!?!?!
How do I get out of here, I've been circling for houurss ;a;
It's cursed I tell ya, CURSED!
I've encountered (probably) a bug. Dread's EX ability won't work at all.
Neok, I love this game a little more than I probably should.
In all seriousness though, you've made leaps and bounds of improvement on this since the original was released. The voids that were the personalities of each character are no longer there, and each one comes out fresh (though Dread is still the scary mofo he always was). I'm on Phase 6, and I'm eagerly awaiting Gray to show up (and for your usual epic choice of endgame music.) Only thing I'm gonna ask is a list of where the floaty guys are and for which location they are for which character (IE: Gray in the factory, Erin in the Abandoned City, etc.) Other than that, I just have to say, I have to agree with what others said before: This is the best goddamn RM2k3 game there is. Kudos sir, expect to hear from me again once I get to the post-game content!

Well, I'd say that Hero's Realm is also up there, but it IS top tier for me.

Fair enough. Though admittedly my view is a bit biased; Alter Aila was the game that got me interested in RPG Maker in the first place, so I have a bit of a soft spot for anything related to it. The fact that this improves on virtually everything from the first is just an added bonus and now I've lost my train of thought.

Yeah, this game is MUCH better than the original. Combat is ten times more interesting, and the dialogue is much better.
Anyone wana tell me where Pulsar mode is? I've beat the game and seem to have missed it and apparently it's really good :S

I'm getting into flash and spriting, I could help you there if we worked out some schedules. Also, flash has a place in my heart (if you can't already tell). AAV as a flash game...on Newgrounds.com and whatnot is...is...

I JUST CLICKED MY AMYGDALA FORWARD, WEEE.

Anyway, hit me up.
I have encountered a problem Mr.Neok.

I have the water level in the Underwater Facility and I'm at the beginning area again, and I can't seem to move now... like, I can't go down anywhere... like, I'm literally stuck... it's a good thing I didn't save, but I just thought I'd mention that. Or was that on purpose?

BTW, like everyone else, this dungeon is the devil, (Also, what is that weird sprite near the save point that says "...?"
