Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

I actually encountered some of the bugs you mention.

The game crashed on me every time I entered a Mirror battle. However when I restarted the game and reloaded a save made just before the fight, and then initiated it again, there were no problems. Strange indeed.

Lavitz having all the skills, except her EX I believe, is also something I encountered. It was the same with Tinderbot 2 after I used his activation skill.
Right, I remember Tinderbot 2 also having its Exceed Ability before it reached the specific Level, but didn't know why and also forgot about it.

I remember another bug. The red arrow indicator in Central Tower (or was it Avalon 3?) stays there even after completing the stage.

I just made a fast video (except that the game was slightly lagging because of the recording so not really that fast) about that strange bug and it does appear I was wrong that changing the party members would be the only thing that causes it. But at least I got the bug to trigger once but it fixed itself after changing the party again? The video should be available under this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0ue4PMYBoM
For anyone that remembers, had you found it hard to keep everyone alive at the Slums boss ( 2 guys and a cat )? With no experience gains except from forced encounters and trying to preserve as much Credits as possible for everyone else's preference, no matter how hard I tried at least someone dies at some point, mostly Violet. Thought my plan was decent enough, but I want to make sure if I should re-do it to the point where everyone can make it across the fight alive.

And for the record, I only have 6 Stim As and 2 Stim Field As, trying to save as many as possible.

For reference, I'm referring to this boss:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM625IQ8qhs
With respects to the hidden room:

Wow... I finally, finally found it. I can't believe what the trick was in the end (as to what it was: well-played, sir, well-played! That was fairly amusing.), but I figured it out at last. It was just like he said, you'll know the minute you get it.

Now that I've gotten everything of note in the game, maybe I ought to give the damage cap one last try with everything from the post game instead of just what I was able to get before I cleared it initially. I don't think I'll improve it much, but if I manage to pull off anything noteworthy I'll be back with details.

Also, while I'm still on the subject of AAG, I found a glitch in the post-game content.

So, at one point I just decided to completely reset my post-game content (bad idea, I know...) and tried to redo it all, in order to try one of my ideas to get to the hidden room in the O.P. Core (which ultimately failed, but inspired me with an entire new idea in the end). When the shadow battles for the main characters reset, I noticed that you couldn't obtain an additional copy of their uber weapons... unless it happens to be for Dread. After beating Dread's shadow a second time, I received a second copy of his uber weapon. I have no idea if it can stack with itself or how unbalanced it is to have 2 of his weapon, but it's clearly not intentional based on the other 9 character's shadows not giving a second copy of theirs.

With this, unless you're hiding anymore surprises I think I've finally finished AAG completely. I must say, I can't wait for AAV to answer some of the unanswered questions AAG left, and especially so with that last curveball you threw me. Thank you for making this, and putting up with so many of my questions along the way. Even though there were a couple of annoying bugs left in the initial release, I have to congratulate you on a job well done. If AAG is any indication of what you can do with AAV, I'm now highly interested (moreso than I was before anyway) in seeing where you go with it.
Heh, just when I saw ARP's post on him finding it I decided to try out one of my newer ideas, and turns out it actually worked. There's one thing you did about it that threw me off for all this time, but I'm sure you know what it was. By the way...

"once you find out how little there is in that room"
You weren't kidding, not sure how there could've been less and still be a "room" with meaning.

And congratulations to ARP for being the first to report finding it.
I still got my walkthrough to finish, so I still got a ways to go in this game. Kind of not looking forward to the full powered Behemoth with minimal grinding.
It's the greatest targeting glitch!! If you select an ability while your previous character is attacking, the character will select the new target for their attack. Thing is, if you do it quick enough, you can nail both the previous target and the new one. I have a theory that this can be done twice (resulting in 3 attacks). I dunno if this works with EX moves since you can't target enemies during the attack. (Can you?)

I've already done a double Frost Diver with Violet and double Ether Round with Leon. I'm now looking for a triple Buster Cannon.

Depends on the character. Ones like Leon (Blast Revoler, Killing Point), Gray (Buster Cannon), Hawk (Indignant Variation), Scott (Blastfire Barrage), Violet (Shooting Star), Indy (Vampire) have to target with their EX.

Ones like Gray (Dark Force), Indy (Femaelstrom), Jake (Temporal Stasis), Dread (Hellion Flare), Celia (Aether Breaker), and Erin (Second Aid, Providence) don't target with their EX. Those are examples from the main cast.

Can't give a general definition since Lavitz's EX kind of breaks it.

My question is, can you get into their menu before the previous character's EX animation takes over?

o_O; Seriously!? Holy crap... I'd like to see it done with my Violet setup, as I've managed to obtain about an 80% improvement over my other video so far. It looks like the random element didn't quite come close to max either time, leaving several low values on hits (apparently 7-10k/hit is a bit low and ~30k/hit is approaching the peak so far w/ about a 50-60k peak on the final blow) I can say, that as long as you select a character before the EX animation begins, you can go ahead and choose their action and it's recipient. Now if only this setup were capable of surviving to get the buffs and use this glitch, then not even the behemoth could survive the onslaught... I've only used this to prevent enemies to act between my actions before, though. I never knew about this glitch so I don't know how it'll act with the above information.

Oh wow... I wonder what Triple Swallow Dance would be like...

Ah well, if you pull off the Triple Buster Cannon of Doom, iloveflash, I'd love to see it if possible. I'd like to see an enemy take like 150k damage in 3 hits before it could even blink.

@missileboater: Best of luck when you take on the behemoth at a lower level. The best tactic I was able to come up with was trying to stall him out with Al Di La on Erin & Toxication. But there was absolutely no room error, and it proved rather frustrating when I would be a touch slow on the draw to issue a guard command. I can safely say that if you don't have roughly 3300-3500 HP if you decide to use a HP draining sync then you're probably toast. It tends to leave no room for errors or HP totals less than 100%.

I still have no clue of how to get a party strategy for the behemoth at low levels. It feels like I'd spend all day reviving and watching them do nothing but die cause they're not fast enough...

Actually, I was really close in one of my attempts with my level 50-60 save. Did it enough so I know which turns to guard, what items to use, and when to attack, etc.

But then, things started going downhill when I started running out of Spd Fields. And then, when my Stim fields ran out, and I died rather quickly after that ( Erin can't heal fast enough, especially without speed altering items ).

After that I decided to take a break. That's why I decided to start fresh and conserve as much Credits as I possibly can up to that point so I'll be more prepared.

On a side note, if you check out cybermega's video on it, he was able to make X-Devastation do only about 2.4k damage while guarding. I found that kind of interesting, of course he did use a post-game save with multiple Zero-Systems, so I'm not sure if I can have access to it on a non post-game completed save and with the way I'm doing this run.

Might have to use both Hawk and Dread as strict item users, I really hope it doesn't come down to that though. Unfortunately, there isn't a character with high HP growth that does very good damage per round/Exceed.

And good luck on your damage test.
TWO people have found the secret room now?! D: Things that can be lost forever make me a sad panda. At least it doesn't seem like I'm missing much, and Neok has promised to reveal it when AAV comes out...

But anyway. I believe I found a solution to the general dislike of the final boss music. As I said in my previous post, I think Deep Calm would fit there perfectly. However, that track is also used for Kugar, so a different track will have to be used for that battle. The solution: "Confrontation At The Mind's Core". This was one of my favourite tracks from The Spirit Engine II, which had an all-around spectacular soundtrack. I think it fits the Kugar battle well. (However, Neok, if you wish to "officially" replace Kugar's battle music with this in the next patch or something (and I suggest you do), I would recommend contacting Josh Whelchel and asking for permission to use it... I know that some authors can be rather touchy about using their work, even if you give credit where credit is due)

(If you don't like Confrontation At The Mind's Core, you can try looking at the rest of the soundtrack -- I think that Clash at Dragon's Gate is fitting for the final battle as well)

Oh, and good luck with trying to pull off another gamebreaking stunt with Violet, ARPerson! :o

I will now search for the Ultima mode and attempt to defeat the final bonus boss.

Edit: Where is the Energy Pak? It's mentioned in the G-Quiz as a better version of the Celestial Orb, but I haven't found it anywhere. (Please don't say it's in the core please don't say it's in the core please don't say it's in the core...)

First off, let me just say that you really aren't missing much ( think everyone who knows about it will agree ).

Have fun searching for that mode, hope you like end-connected mazes. Currently at Disk 2 ( getting busy ), but if you haven't found it by the time I get to the UF, I think I can rediscover and show you where it is.

Also, if you had no trouble with the final story boss, the super-boss shouldn't cause you much if your HP levels are about 4k+.

And the Energy Pak is not in the Core. In fact, if I recall correctly, I had it way before the final story boss of the game.

Thank gods.

And no, I really, really hate looping rooms of any kind, especially when they lack landmarks. Half the reason I hated Legacies of Dondoran's bonus dungeon was because every single floor was like that.

Is the Energy Pak stronger or weaker than the Celestial Orb? That might give me a clue as to where it is, since I'm pretty sure I had the Celestial Orb by the time I finished story mode as well. (Or did I get it in Below Stynx...?)

Couldn't get into Legacies of Dondoran, hated the first 1-2 dungeons and just quit right there.

Here's the stat when equipping the Celestial Orb and the Energy Pak on the same character:

Celestial Orb | Energy Pak
Attack = 964 | Attack = 949 / Difference = 15
Guard = 116 | Guard = 91 / Difference = 21
Mind = 450 | Mind = 435 / Difference = 15
Speed = 21 | Speed = 21 / Difference = 0

(lines won't align)
Ah, I see. So it's pointless to collect.

In other news, I seem to have encountered a bug. :/ When fighting monsters in No Man's Land 3, the battle music doesn't start until the fight woosh is over, and when it does, it plays Nightmare's battle music, oddly enough. Furthermore, when I win a battle, the music stops instantly as well. Is this normal?

Edit: Just found Ultima. You're right, it's pretty sucky. Oh well, still fun to get all the modes.

Edit 2: Just beat the superboss! As always, SPD Boost/Crush made things pitifully easy. At first I thought the Quick Learner device would be useful in grinding for the extra characters, but found out it wasn't. Got bored quickly. Oh well, I'll write review soon, as promised.

(I think that a good idea for the secret characters, if you're dead-set on making them start at level 1, would be to allow people to unlock them during the main game. That way they can level them up properly instead of having to grind tons of characters right at the end. Alternatively, leaked experience.)
I've been experimenting. You can target multiple enemies with different characters by tapping the Z button after about 0.2~0.5 seconds of delay ONCE YOU'RE IN THEIR MENU. You still have to be quick enough to confirm the target before the previous character attacks, but tapping Z too fast will cause the menu controls to lock up until the animation is over.

Another thing to note is that each animation seems to have a "setup time". This is the period within which I believe the double-target attacks become possible. Violet, for example, does double Frost Diver if you target a second enemy before she dives (at least I think so--she's not on my team right now so I can't test). I think for some characters it s before they disappear.

One more thing: if you target another enemy before this setup time is over, the character will switch targets entirely.

Just relax and press Z with precise timing and you can nail two targets with a single-target attack easily! Double Ether Round, Double Frost Diver, Double Shockwave, you name it! Remember to have at least two out of three characters' ATB gauges loaded. I don't think a triple move is possible because of the delay difference in tapping Z and the setup time.

@Missileboater: I'll experiment with those attacks and see, but I doubt they'd work.
Maybe not with how incredibly vague you're being though. >_<

:D

Lavitz having all the skills, except her EX I believe, is also something I encountered. It was the same with Tinderbot 2 after I used his activation skill.

*facepalm*

Yeah, that's why they're getting skills they're not suppose to. For characters that have skills that need to be activated, their skills get reset after battle, so that's where they're suddenly getting skills they haven't actually learned.

Maybe I'll just make it so that they know them all from the start after all. It doesn't seem like having to lvl them was a popular decision...

I remember another bug. The red arrow indicator in Central Tower (or was it Avalon 3?) stays there even after completing the stage.

See it. Fixed.

I think I probably should've gave more hints in game, but.. meh. :P

Unique Syncs glitch

I think I know what's causing it.. KK mentioned it earlier in his massive bug report. I'm just not sure how I'd go about fixing it though...

With this, unless you're hiding anymore surprises I think I've finally finished AAG completely.

Congratulations on 100% clear! It'll be a long while before AAV comes out, but yeah, it'll be good :) (I hope).

There's one thing you did about it that threw me off for all this time, but I'm sure you know what it was.

Actually I'm not sure what you mean.

"once you find out how little there is in that room"
You weren't kidding, not sure how there could've been less and still be a "room" with meaning.

Well I did warn you :P. (Btw, I hope you played that part with sound, if just for the dramatic silence effect.)

It's the greatest targeting glitch!!

Ahaha, man 2k3 dbs is so broken. OTL

(Vid plz :\/)

Music changing

Mmh, I think I'd rather just leave it alone at this point. Sorry!

Edit: Where is the Energy Pak?

In the core, bud :D

I don't think I ever tossed it into any of the chests, so the only way to get it is to hunt down Reeves around phase 2-3. Also, it's a phase 2-3 wear, so it's not better than the Celestial Orb :P.

That is most likely me forgetting to turn off music skipping after the Nightmare battle!

Fixed.

I'll send a PM, since anything I say about why it took me longer than it should would probably give it away.

I did play that part with sound. Kind of had the feeling that the creepy part was over after the Face Maze. Although I guess you are right again. With that dramatic sound effect, you'd think that we'd be shocked at what we found in there. For me it just caused me to think of theories of what happened, but none of actually why.
(Side note, is it even possible for anyone other than yourself to know what it means with just information given in AAG?)

One question, although it probably is way too early: Will our save files from AAG be used in AAV in any way? Will probably not be for levels ( damn, all that time wasted grinding ), but I'm thinking of more like Golden Sun --> Golden Sun 2 : The Lost Age, in that if you do certain things in GS, it will influence/gain you access to events in GS2:TLA.
(Side note, is it even possible for anyone other than yourself to know what it means with just information given in AAG?)

Nope :P. That's why I'm saying it's a bit of a spoiler for AAV. It's mostly just so that when it comes out and that particular plot point comes up, you guys can be like 'wtf no, you're full of it', and I can be like 'wtf yes, i had it planned all along' *insert evil maniacal cackle*.

I'm actually hoping to jump over to RM VX for AAV, especially with the amount of un-fixable bugs in AAG. So savegames will be incompatible :(.

Though, I AM thinking about doing a small little side-project with AAG in 2k3 (something like a bonus fandisc if you will), so.. maybe MAYBE I can get something going there.
I DEMAND A WALKTHROUGH FOR THIS GAME!!!! ..>_>;

I wanna find the other characters and stuff. But I don't even know where to begin. X_X;
Let's start with:

-Shard Locations
-Optional Dungeons (How to get to.)

That's it, everything else I'm willing to do. Sidequests are fun, but get overwhelming if you don't know where's a good place to start. X_X;;;;

Also Mr.Neok, if you are going to make a side-projection, why not make a drama CD thing. :P like some of those popular animes and games do? But instead just make it only a big BIG cutscene.

I am doing a Shard + Boss walkthrough right now. I do plan to do the Joker one also, but it's going to be near the end of the story mode so I can knock most of them out at the same time.

Shards Playlist : http://www.youtube.com/user/Missileboater#grid/user/FBE1C95D58225D0C

(By the way, I feel like I missed a shard somewhere along the way)

I actually want to do a live walkthrough of the game. It would be faster since I don't have to be "perfect" with bosses or shards when showing. I'm know I'm going to suffer when I have terrible HP growth members (Violet, Indy, Celia, Jake) in my party. However, I don't have a microphone so I can't commentate. However, once I do get a microphone, I think I'll actually do it. This is a game that I enjoy and it ain't as confusing as Lun's "The Way" story ( at least, I hope not)

(Small Question: By the way, are the movements at the end of
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIS6k8KWZ_U
supposed to be possible?)
