Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

I have no idea why this is happening. I'm strongly suspecting it's something to do with my computer being an asshole.

Yeah, that's really weird. I'm not too sure what's happening either, but I think it may have come up as being something to do with windows 7 earlier in the thread. Sorry, I don't think I can help you with this one.

Feature

Thanks guys :) (you love me..! you really love me..! *tear*)

Edit: Oh and I think I remember that...

Argh is right. The Exceeds that enemies throw at you tend to have different names than the ones you get to toss at them. Another one would be

Lavitz's Exceed is Swallow Dance when on your team, but is just Swallow Slash when you're fighting her since it's only 1 slash.

Edit: Oh yeah, before I forget: What's the difference between De-Material and De-Material X? At first I thought that De-Material X targets the whole party, but apparently that's not the case.

No you're right. The only thing is that it won't stop a CRIT Boost, and it can't dispel a Boost that's inherent to your equipment.
Burstfire Cannon is not a typo, I believe. It's also used
in the battle against Scott at the end of phase 4.

I think that, mainly, it's because multi-hit abilities can't be used by enemies, so "Barrage" wouldn't make sense.

Mind Boost looks like Mind Crush for Indy.

Edit: Oh and I think I remember that...
Scott's Darkside has an Ability called Burstfire Cannon instead of Burstfire Barrage, but I am not sure if that might actually be correct this way.
Congrats on this month's featured too! Definitely deserved it.

Neok, I don't know if it's just my computer or something, but whenever I finish the first cutscene/battle, I get a 'Not Implemented' Windows error that would probably crash my computer if I wasn't so rapid at hitting Enter -.-'. It fills up the screen and I have to rapidly press enter and try and hit the close button D:.

I have no idea why this is happening. I'm strongly suspecting it's something to do with my computer being an asshole.

How much of a time-frame do we have...

..before we can no longer take advantage of Hawk's auto-leveling by putting him in the party at the end of the game? I'm planning on using three or more other characters for some parts of the game, but I want his level as high as possible in a certain part later.

If his lvl is below 50, then he'll join at lvl 50 in the final phase.

Well it is Halloween themed, though I'm a little confused as to if your being serious or not.

Don't you know I am always serious? :D

I've been stuck in the first avalon area for a number of days now. I think it is a good time to start getting some help. Basically I've been walking around in circles, and the tough enemies in this area aren't helping. Are there any sequences you need to activate the ramp modifiers? Any sort of hint can help, thanks!
The general idea is to get as far up to the top as you can, then set the bridge so that it connects the lower left with the lower right. Then work your way down to the bottom left of the area.

By the way, I have a favor to ask. Do you think you you could post in as many other places as you can, such as other gamepages/ on the forum? I'm hoping for more people to be as creeped out as I am by your avatar. :P

i dunno was that written before or not, but there is a bug, in rebel base, if you dont will look in the room and take files on Hawk, just try to leave, you will stuck, i mean, when you try to get right, after 1 step it will say like "Cant leave without files on Hawk" and teleport 1 step left, when you again step right to take them, you'll see that message again

Yep, that bug was found. Thanks for letting me know though. It should be fixed in the latest patch.

I believe I found a bug relating to the zone devices. They're not permanent like their descriptions say -- once they wear off, they don't come back. The only exception is in boss battles that use zones of their own, in which case they counter the boss' field effect every time it pops up. On a related note, the Energy Circuit and Spirit Circuit devices seem to be misnamed; when activating them, the text box calls them "Fields" instead of "Circuits".

To tell you the truth, I don't think I'm going to fix those bugs as the coding for it is a bit complicated for that. I can change the names easily enough though.

Also, Silvra's "Phantasm" skill doesn't seem to work properly, although I imagine that coding it must have been a nightmare, so I'd expect it to be buggy. In addition to only draining EX about half the time, it also seems to make the third character's battle graphic disappear for some reason.

Thanks for the heads up. But again, I don't think I'm going to mess around too much with the battle coding at this point. Sorry.. :(

I just found a bug in the very late postgame.

Fixed.

Also I remember something about a specific Boss-Fight:

Fixed.

Oh, by the way, there appears to be a typo in Lavitz' "Blurry Moon" technique. It says that it drains HP, yet it does not seem to do anything of the sort.

Yeah it's random. I want to change it to work 100% of the time, but I didn't code it the same way I did Indy's so it'd be tough at this point. Sorry :(

There's also a typo in the cutscene "Even Star" -- Erin says "despiceable" at one point.

It says 'despicable' for me though..

There are a couple of typos anyway. Even "existance" should be spelt as "existence".

Oh god I'm not fixing this.

but when a character like Hawk says "Oh, anywayyyyssss", with a lisp and a roll of his eyes, it's wrong, just wrong!

...anywaaaaaaaaaaaysssssssss.. :P

I can't kill the fishermen in the rebel harbor. Anyone got any ideas on how to kill them? With the claws every round I can't find a balance between healing and attacking.

The first time I killed them was by concentrating on defense till Celia could throw off an Aether Breaker, then tossing an ATK Booster on her before letting fire. Took 2 Breakers to take them down.

Theres a bug in Phase 1:

Fixed. I'd bump you up to the top of my testers list for AAV, but you're already there. ;)

Yeah i just finished the game, so i had to create a account just to say: THANK YOU. Its the best game i've played in quite a while, great story and gameplay, i just could not not stop playing until i found every lil shard, joker and killed every boss.

Was my pleasure :).

Oh yeah, while replaying phase 2 today, I noticed that there's a weird symbol in the password input screen if you switch to "symbol". It's right below the one for field effects. Is it used anywhere? If not, I wonder what it was originally intended for? :/ There are a few other symbols that don't seem to be used anywhere, too...

Yeah it's probably just symbols I made but never got around to using.

It does drain HP, but not always.

Edit:
Theres a bug in Phase 1:
After getting through the Main Prison Area on your way to the Outskirts.
Visiting Scott's Hideout now instead of entering the Outskirts, Scott says that they want to go to the Tournament.
They detract form HP, not from EX. I'll try it though, I have almost enough mega-bombs to take them down to zero health.
Not to mention the constant usage of the word "anyways"--which is not only repetitious and, in some cases, uncharacteristic, but also wrong. It's "anyWAY", without the 's' at the end. It's okay for street-oriented characers to say it, but when a character like Hawk says "Oh, anywayyyyssss", with a lisp and a roll of his eyes, it's wrong, just wrong!
