Seraphic Blue (セラフィックブルー) is a 50+ hour epic RPG made by Tempura in RPG Maker 2000 v1.51, and is highly-received in the Japanese RPG Maker community, most notably for its story. It has 2 versions: the original (made in 2004) and Director's Cut (made in 2006). The version translated here is Director's Cut.

Seraphic Blue is well-known for its
- Deep and intriguing atypical dark storyline with a deep underlying message
- Highly creative custom battle and menu systems
- Flexible equipping with the Sphere System
- Precise cutscene transitions and dialogue pauses, making the cutscenes feel more alive.
- Custom artworks to accompany some cutscenes
- Awesome music and well-used sound effects
and many more.

NOTE1: This is NOT created by me. It is created by a man named Tempura (known as Sakaki in the game credits). I am the sole translator of this game (with kumada as the proofreader), and I have permission to translate this game from Tempura himself. Credits to Tempura and his team for creating such an awesome game :)

Blog 42: Revised Title Screen

Hi everyone!

Well, this blog serves to talk about a minor revision to the title screen. I've been meaning to revise the text in the title screen 'cause, you know, the Engrish options that are New-Birth of Blue, Revive of Blue and Away from Blue. And so today, I've done just that and you can see the revised title screen:

I wanted to keep the "Blue" part, so only the 1st two options have been revised. Let me know what you all think if you will, but I think I'm pretty satisfied with this version and if nothing else, I will put this as the new title screen for this game.

Out of curiosity, is the battle against Aisia available in this version game? Or it is only available in the newer Altered version only?
Interesting comments indeed! I love to see people's opinions on this game, it's definitely one of the most interesting games I played in a while. You're certainly right that it puts most professional RPGs to shame in terms of thematic depth.

I wouldn't really agree that Vene contradicting herself is exactly a 'flaw', though. I mean, her whole character was about that internal conflict resulting from the fact that she was born in order to save the world and has no purpose other than that, but she herself has no conviction that life and existence are worth saving. I suppose you could say that she lacked development in the sense that she didn't change that much over the course of the game, but I think her development came more in the sense of the player gradually finding out how she became the way she is now and where her beliefs come from, I suppose. I certainly felt that my understanding of her character evolved more and more as the game went on, which felt really rewarding.

I personally thought the family's motivations were pretty interesting as well, especially Leona, but I also definitely understand why people would be repelled by their philosophy as well (as much of the party was, really). But I think that, if one reflects on people who are brought into existence only to undergo terrible suffering for their whole life - and there are certainly people born like that in our world - anyone with a heart would have to wonder, "Surely it would have been better if this person had never been born". It definitely makes sense to me how that feeling could become all-consuming to the extent that it did for that family, I think. But it's natural for people to have differing reactions to the sorts of things that are brought up in this game, which is part of what makes it interesting!
Many thanks for the detailed comment, Hentaicheg! Always great to hear/see comments like this! I'm glad I didn't give up in translating this game :)
Woah, I never expected something of similiar quality to blurred line and the way on rpg maker again for sure...

I simply can't put my words into how amazing this game is, thanks a lot for your effort on translation!

I can't believe it's so underrated.. I simply had to make an account to comment this, while I never realy bothered before, even with blurred line it only made me ponder..

I will separate into sections and try to explain why the game deserves more love in my opinion:

1) Gameplay:
This is something I both enjoyed and hated at the same time..

The game starts out rather easy, you can learn it's mechanics, which is fine. It becomes totally brutal halfway in though...

I love challenge and tactics, but this is challenging... in a wrong way - basically as game is heavy on text, usually before you fight an important boss battle - you will need to see the dialogues for 5-10 minutes. Afterwards starts the boss fight, where boss uses a trick or a strength you could NEVER predict, even if it was hinted somehow before, resulting in a complete failure as first try big time. The most frustrating was boss you had to poison.. I had no chance to do it first time, simply because at that point in the game support was rather useless. As for other bosses.. you actually had the chance if you got the 'stars align' kind of luck and managed to discover bosses trick before he putted it up, which mostly was keeping the table clear of all elements.. until bosses started to get void ability and it went crazy...

What is weird is that difficulty dropped a tonn when it got closer to last few chapters.. monsters gave too much exp and you pretty much overpowered most bosses with general equipment, not needing any tactics at all..

Balance is huge issue.. mages seem.. lacking to say the least... yan is a truly OP killing machine late game if build for critical with correct equipment.. get her to ~120 crit along with her self ability - results in ~90% crit chance with insane attack speed and attack which is VERY close to cap. Pretty much she dealt more dmg than other 3 characters.. well, 2, considering 1 mostly healed.

Overall I enjoyed the challenging aspects of the game, especially late game mini bosses.. but main bosses could realy use some tweaks.. instead of being random figure out what this boss does and swap into needed equip..

2) Sound:

Rather atmospheric, but the variety is lacking, considering game takes so much time >>

3) Graphics:

Not the strongest aspect of the game, just like blurred lines it's mostly weak, but at least a lot of stuff is custom made, and there are rather pretty artworks as well.

4) Characters:

The best there can be - characters you can actually relate to, both the variety and depth of characters is impressive to say the least. Unlike most JRPG's.. ah, let's be honest - 99% of RPG's are based on rainbows and friendship as a virtue.
The only fact is - some characters lacked development, like vene.. even though she was my favourite character, I could say she was rather flawed.. not in a way of personality, but in a way of contradicting herself big time.
But outside of a few minor flaws - that's one set of characters I will actually remember out of hundreds and hundreds of RPG's.

5) Story:

Again a mixed opinion - it started out well, went better, then went downhill, then better again, then downhill again and the final wrap up was rather satisfying.. this is a rather weird summary, but I can't reveal much more without spoiling too much..
I guess I will still spoil a little though - antagonists were simply lackluster.. especially the trio family. Vene responded rather greatly to their ideas - 'shut up, bitch', pretty much summarised my opinion on how stupid their reasons actually were.. It was pretty much a facepalm throughout whole dialogs...

Instead of viewing it as an usual black vs white type of story, it's better to view it as a story of a change in one's character. A dark story about the reality of feelings and growth of one as a persona.

Overall: A lengthy(52 hours was my last save, and that's not counting I had to replay some battles, which easily puts it to 55-60 hours if we also add up the time for final battle + ending) rpg which packs you enough challenges to keep you entertained combat wise, a rather good pacing of leveling(you won't realy have to grind if you are good), while offering a rather interesting world, story and a set of main characters, lifes of whom intervene in different ways.

You can rarely encounter an RPG aimed at mature audithory, which is not all about good beating evil and friendship, so it's a game I thoroughly enjoyed in the end. I would definitely pay for this instead of crappy RPG's we get nowadays.

I need the 2000rtp
Well, you can download the RTP via the link in the Summary page (under NOTE2:)

Okay, I didn't really need it. Just used rpg maker 2k3.

Completed the game though, quite depressing ending. Most characters were happy though.

Hi eplipswich, thanks for the awesome work.

I was wondering if you are going to translated the Altered version next or will it be after whatever you are doing now? Asking this because I'm wodering if I should play the original first or just wait for the newer one...I'm usually the type of person who doesn't play long and difficult games multiple times though.

Hi Alec20!

Hmm, I suppose you should play this version for now because I don't think I will be touching the Altered version anytime soon.

On a side note, chances are, you might play the Altered version after the original since the Altered version allows for skipping of cutscenes.

It look like I need rpg maker 2000 to play it :(

? Um, you don't need RPG Maker 2000 to play. You only need the RTP, though I'm pretty sure I've included all of them in the main download.

You can look at the front page to find which resources you need to download.

Ack, this second episode 39 puzzle is quite honestly stumping me, even with the hints. Not even sure what I'm trying to look for here, heh.

Namely, I think I need either another hint or just the answer. What I thought was the answer wasn't and I'm not sure what I'm missing here.
The answer lies way back in the first few notes by the researcher. What was the thing that the researcher emphasizes/mentions a lot on? The revolutionary thingy? And it's two four-letter words, right? Once you get those words, all you have to do is to "look back".

...You see that table over there sir? I'm going to proceed to send my face through it multiple times because I knew PRECISELY what I was going for, but I think the fact I was using capital letters is what threw me off. Thanks for that hint!

Um, not sure if it is right to ask this in comments, but I have lost all save data for this game due to a blue screen a long time ago. I still remember, that I was at the tower before the Second Fight with Virginie Gal. Would it be possible to ask if you have any save files upto that point?
Oh, I have one from around that point! Here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zvqtft3twzb7ky2/Save01.lsd?dl=0

Thank you so much, this will really help me out right here!

Eh sorry, but I don't have a Episode 24 save file with me. The most I have is Episode 16 (plus 27 and beyond)...

Thank you so much for taking the time to try at least! The person down below did help quite a bit and thank you so much for translating this awesome game!
