Seraphic Blue (セラフィックブルー) is a 50+ hour epic RPG made by Tempura in RPG Maker 2000 v1.51, and is highly-received in the Japanese RPG Maker community, most notably for its story. It has 2 versions: the original (made in 2004) and Director's Cut (made in 2006). The version translated here is Director's Cut.

Seraphic Blue is well-known for its
- Deep and intriguing atypical dark storyline with a deep underlying message
- Highly creative custom battle and menu systems
- Flexible equipping with the Sphere System
- Precise cutscene transitions and dialogue pauses, making the cutscenes feel more alive.
- Custom artworks to accompany some cutscenes
- Awesome music and well-used sound effects
and many more.

NOTE1: This is NOT created by me. It is created by a man named Tempura (known as Sakaki in the game credits). I am the sole translator of this game (with kumada as the proofreader), and I have permission to translate this game from Tempura himself. Credits to Tempura and his team for creating such an awesome game :)

Blog 42: Revised Title Screen

Hi everyone!

Well, this blog serves to talk about a minor revision to the title screen. I've been meaning to revise the text in the title screen 'cause, you know, the Engrish options that are New-Birth of Blue, Revive of Blue and Away from Blue. And so today, I've done just that and you can see the revised title screen:

I wanted to keep the "Blue" part, so only the 1st two options have been revised. Let me know what you all think if you will, but I think I'm pretty satisfied with this version and if nothing else, I will put this as the new title screen for this game.

Where and when do you get the reviver item? I never remember getting it. Did I miss the opportunity to get this item by chance? How far would I have to backtrack to get it?

Edit: By the way, does anyone else find that the "Elemental Attack" boosters don't seem to have much effect at all? Darkness Hearts still seems to do the same damage even with a +60 boost on the Dark Attack stat.

I don't think elemental attack boosters actually have any effect on skills. Only on physical attacks.

As for the challenge that's as tough as that section, you probably won't get to taste it again yet in this latest release, but you probably will when the full version is out (the remaining episodes, that is) :)
I don't remember having any "Reviver" item, but I found that section an enjoyable challenge. It actually forced me to think about my setup and make use of the varied options the game gave to me, like the block upgrade; kind of wish the game would be that challenging more often, to be honest. (Although, I haven't got around to the latest release yet, so for all I know it gets harder as it goes on.)

Anyone having trouble with Carnivore and the meat maniacs:

This is ideally what you need going into combat. Take a reviver. Take lots of upgraded heal bottles (note that there are two ways to upgrade them. You want the enhanced healing output, not the group heals.) Make sure you're rocking the accessory that lets you increase your normal block's effectiveness. Take an equip that enhances your damage and wait time, and take a reviver if you found one.

With Carnivore, stick to low-wait attacks and pace yourself. Use items frequently. If you think Carnivore might be about to start his two-round attack and your next attack will only take place after it's finished, consider using an item or doing a 50wt wait. You want to make sure you're defending in between when he starts up the attack and when he finishes it. Don't bother trying to status effect him. It's a long fight, but you'll win this one through simple attrition if you keep yourself healed.

For the Meat Maniacs, Darkness Hearts is your best friend. The damage is okay, but the chance to inflict blind should not be overlooked. Yes, you are relying on a lucky status proc in order to win fights. No, this is not even slightly fair. Having a reviver equipped will help you stretch your odds a little, and the quicker you can chip away at the Maniacs' numbers, the longer you can go in between heals. Generally, a single hard attack plus a group cast of Darkness Hearts should be enough to take down a single maniac, so if your first cast hits, procs, and helps shut down some of the incoming damage from the group, you can just work your way down their line with hard attacks. If it doesn't proc, at least you can start shutting down the maniacs' ability to hurt you back.

It's a little annoying that this fight crutches so heavily on having the reviver, so anyone else who is working their way through the game, make sure that you don't ever equip it to Vene or Nixon until you're done with Carnivore. Also, scour all dungeons to make sure you get it.

IMHO, this is questionable design on the creators' part, but it's also a quintessentially jrpg-style challenge.

I f*cking hate the meat maniacs. I swear to god the whole thing is more about luck then anything. I grinded up 2 lvls and I'm thinking I'll have to go back and get over 2khp on Lake before I give it another shot which'll probably be another 4 levels. What level should you be going into that part anyway?

Yeah, the Meat maniacs are the craziest of them all (even the Japanese players actually complained about them ~ ~), but they can be defeated around less than level 30 or so. Be sure to equip yourself with Reviver. It works very well as it auto-revives Lake after he dies. And use Darkness Hearts as it hits the entire party. That would probably be the best way to go.

Also, be sure to turn Auto-fill on for the Supplement if you haven't already. It will help out a lot as well.

Do stay tuned for LunaticScreamer's Let's Play video in his Youtube channel if you're still stuck :)

Short means less resistance.

Combat in this game can be kind of counter-intuitive and brutal if you're not used to jrpgs (and even then, there are parts that are keyboard-throwingly frustrating,) so if you have any questions about battle strategy, drop me a line.

Also, to anyone who's just picking this game up, do not be afraid to equip non-mages with curative magic. Especially early on.
With the whole resistance thing, are shorter bars better or worse when it comes to enemies?
Okay guys, the minor fix is up. You can download the file in the link below and put the file into the Picture subfolder in the Seraphic Blue game folder.

Sorry for the trouble! I think that should be the only minor bug. I will update the main game file soon.

I downloaded the rtp too.

Got it. I will put a patch in soon to fix it. Sorry guys!

Oh, that is old news now. WIP was in charge back then and was about to close down RMN. Thankfully, rcholbert saved the website before kentona took over. You weren't around then ^^
