Alright, so I added a few tracks of music, got started on the enemy base camps, came up with a few problems implementing the skill books (although I have the first one working fine), and I've finished putting in all the town houses.

What's left? I need to get through making the enemy base camps, throw in some better rewards in treasure chests, and fiddle around with the music a bit more. Originally I was going to make the music changing mimic the system of the second game, which I loved, but it doesn't seem completely needed here at this point. Maybe in the 1.4 version.

As for the extra side quests, I've thought long and hard about it. Since I'm implementing areas from the deluxe edition of the game, I'm going to add a second fantasy maze and tie that to accessing those deluxe areas.

Also, I'm going to make a new final dungeon area in the garden of eden. It just makes sense, since the original was lacking that big, long winding final area. It will be similar to the fantasy mazes. This should boost the playtime of the game up to at least 13 hours, perhaps 20 at most.

Sounds like quite a bit is being changed/added/... I skipped the deluxe, should i give this new one a whirl, or is there still not enough new content to warrant another play?
I think there would be enough here to warrant a second play through if you're into replaying games. I never really do, but I've tried to make it different enough for second time players.
If I'm not mistaken, sbester will also be changing/tweaking some of the story to better fit the series as a whole. I'll definitely be looking for these upgrades.
Yep, added a few minor characters from your novel, changed lots of NPC dialogue throughout the game, added new story elements, also tried to clear up a few things about the mythology. Not quite done all that yet, but it's coming along.

Edit: I should also add that I've changed the look of some of the areas. I was always very unhappy with the mountains area, so now it has some cloudy skies in the background and the mountain rock looks a lot better than the old rolling hills (basically, they were tree tops before).
Something I should have mentioned before:

If you liked the first version of this game, chances are you will like this one even more. If you didn't, ask yourself why. If it was do to graphics, mapping, or gameplay, not much has changed in that department to make you fall in love with this version. However, if it was do to exploration and story, sbester has made a lot of tweaks by adding in additional dungeons, a sort of battle tutorial, moving the enemy camps around, and better story elements at key points to make this worth the trouble.
