Air RPG is a small NES styled game. Most of the features should be familiar if you've played the old Nintendo Metroid series. A few RPG elements are also present such as obtaining experience, using items, and leveling up to make yourself stronger. The ability to fly in-game is a Balloon Fighter reference.

There is no actual story, but the game does have a basic plot. You play as an exterminator sent to demolish the existence of harmful pest that dwell underground. This is a Metroid reference, where the plot is basically destroy the evil mother brain and exterminate the metroids.

This was an experimental project, but it is very well polished. There is also documentation present. Press F1 in-game for reference.

Everything was made by me except for the music.

If anything is wrong with the game, please provide constructive criticism or report any disturbances or bugs.

I like the look of this game :-)
It plays too fast. Jump feels iffy if it will work or not.

The game feels good. Very Metroidish minus the feel.

If this was an iphone game and you charged $1, you'd have $5,000 easily.

is it too late for ironhide facepalm

you have my interest. i will definitely give this a go.
Some of the enemy rooms are redundant though. Three enemy rooms that had the same enemies was a lil much. Maybe diversify.
This is awesome. I can see myself completing this game. I have not encountered a boss fight yet, but I am hoping for one. Every RPG needs good boss challenges =).
I made vids I'll be uploading to youtube soon. I got to the boss of the heat zone lets call it.

Every coin feels valuable.
Upgrade areas could use more definition to them. They look like waterfalls.
Up key feels strange to jump, but you do provide the alternative.

I still say firmly if you made this for iphone and charged $1, you'd have $5,000.

Contradictory much?
It does feel like it plays too fast. Jump doesn't seem to work 100% of the time when you are on ground and jump.

Its very Metroidish as in doors, weapon upgrades and stuff. It doesn't feel like Metroid, because its devoid of atmosphere even if it tries to mimic their blocks and sprites. I feel like its a game and not an experience like Metroid.

Its still a great game. How is that contradictory?

I guess it's my own fault for thinking "Metroid" and "good" to be the same thing.
The original Metroid was great or fantastic, but going back to play it, its tough and extremely tedious like if you're low on energy. Maybe I should've said MetroidVania.

That is an awesome notion, and one that makes me want to make a simplistic game like this and sell for the iPhone. I could use $5000 right now, but who couldn't.
DOUBLE POST SORRY BUT WHATEV

Oh btw I submitted a review.
How do I set joystick controls? I love platformers but I find them intolerable with a keyboard.

Neat little(?) platformer! can't seem to break the red walls (turning round in circle) ?
The chiptune music you had in the game was jaw-dropping amazing! I'm curious as to what they are. Care to divulge the source(s)?
I came back to this game after remembering JoytoKey. (A must-have app for anyone who plays indie platformers!) I'm having fun, but ran into a problem. After dying on the second boss there doesn't seem to be a way to fight him again. I went back to his chamber, but a piece of dirt that I was able to bomb through earlier has become invincible. I tried both heat bombs and drop bombs but neither seems to scratch it.
The sprite of the player reminds me of Balloon Attack.
I like to play this one.
Its like metroid connected with ballon fight guy without ballons and connected with mario.
For me it's little similiar to Dokkutsu too. Nice atmosphere with music and graphics.
Sat down and beat it pretty quickly, but it was a sample type of thing so that makes sense.

Had a blast though.

Music was very nice to listen to. I was playing it with the volume decently loud and my brother came in with a very excited look on his face haha.

Graphically pleasing as well. I loved the retro style of graphics, it made the game bring me back to my childhood.

The game didnt feel too fast to me at all. I like moving everywhere quickly and getting to new rooms without feeling like my character is just strolling everywhere. The only reason it might seem too fast is due to the shortness of the game, but it was a sample so that would be fixed with a full game.

The only thing that seemed somewhat boring to me was the guns/bombs. They were all basically the same. The first two guns worked basically the same, then the heat gun was different, cool! But then the ice gun was basically the same thing again. I just wanted more variety in the weaponry.

All in all, very very fun sample. Hoping to see this one move forward into a full game!
