In a different universe, or perhaps in a very far corner of our own, or maybe simply an existential layer of it that our human minds cannot quite comprehend, or also it might be an acid dream, there are beings called Overlords. The only real definition of an Overlord is a being who, in some way, willfully defies the laws of the physical world. The Overlords have generally attained this status and title through accumulation of massive power, though other methods exist and have been used; and of course their numbers are few. Still, it is difficult for super-beings to exist in the same realm without inciting a dramatic conflict, making epic prophecies and generally being eccentric assholes, and so begins our story... the story of twelve people manipulated by two different Overlords attempting to accomplish two very different goals.
There are six playable characters out of the twelve important heroes; the game takes place over several chapters. The first and longest chapter of the game involves playing through each character's personal scenario individually. These unlikely "heroes" are from different worlds, even different dimensions, but they are ultimately pulled into the same world and forced into an alliance...
The ideal interest factor for this first string of separate scenarios is that they do overlap to an extent. Remember in FF6 how Sabin was shadowing you up the mountain? Imagine if, after that part of the game, you ended up playing AS Sabin and got more insight into what he was doing as he followed you! Even turned it into a bit of a mini-game where you must remain unseen! That's exactly what you'll get here - two or even three sides of the same story told from unique viewpoints. I also aim to make sure that every single playable character is as different from the next as they can be.
(... And now that I re-read this, were YOU the one chasing Sabin? I don't remember. THE POINT STANDS)
* Every character has completely different abilities, mechanics and quirks. * Characters level up using EXP gained from battles, as well as spending AP earned from battles and questing to buy special abilities in the Velvet Room. * Many cameos and references to other series exist. Like the Velvet Room. * The theme is quite humorous, but this is not intended to be a "joke game!" * Everybody loves to build-your-own-base, similar to BoF2's Township! * Standard party size is 3 Heroes, with an extra space for Guest NPCs or Mordoba's puppets. *
