Chrono Shift is a fan-made non-profit game currently in development. It is intended to be a stand-alone game that can also serve as a prequel to the Chrono series. It takes place in the Dark Ages on the Chrono planet, fifteen years before the events of CT.

Some features of the game include:
  • Customized sprites (not all are totally original but I don’t think even a single one has gone unedited)
  • An all-original, never-bever-heard soundtrack
  • Experience the story with an all-new playable cast (though you may recognize a few eventually)
  • Contains several ties and nods to the official Chrono games
  • Utilizing Atoa’s Custom Battle System with the Chrono Plug-In
  • Raziel’s Chrono Custom Menu System
  • All-New spells and battle animations
  • 3-Person caterpillar system with 8-directional movement just like the official games
  • Tons of minigames and 20+ hours of gameplay
  • Multiple endings and New Game +
  • All-new Alchemy item creation system
  • An expanded and more diverse world to explore with more secrets than you've seen before
  • Epic and meticulously-planned story that expands the mythology

Like the demo, the game will be and was always intended to be free. We would never charge for it, if you pay somebody money for it, they scammed you, get your money back.

The team continues to grow and work toward completion. Bare with us and wait patiently while we work and rather than release news updates, we’ll release a finished game.

*Disclaimer: The engine for the game has gone from the demo using 2k3 to the full game using XP. The reasons are numerous, but at the end of the day the upgrade allows us to make a better game. The decision was that simple.

RMXP - Help us Finish the Project!

Hello subscribers! Mr. Bekkler here, director of Chrono Shift.

This game has been in the works for several years now. It was on hiatus for a while as I had personal matters that needed my attention but now that I have some time for the foreseeable future, I'm trying to get it finished. I'm very sorry for the delay, and we'd like to avoid further delay and get this project completed, which brings me to my point.

We need some help.

The problem is that when we first started, it was an RM2k3 game and add such was very limited. We chose to switch engines to RMXP, to allow the game to better fit the feel we're going for. A few very dependable teammates never let go and continued to work in my absence, despite the fact that we were essentially starting over. Thanks to them, the game's engine, battle system, and menu system are all up and running and the custom graphics we created have been converted to XP format and imported. The plot outline has been finished for a long time and the dialogue script is progressing smoothly.

What we need is mappers. Unfortunately I cannot offer any money as this is a completely non-profit game. However, if you're interested and capable of making maps in RMXP with tilesets that have already been imported, I'll make sure you get credit when it is complete, and obviously you'll be able to enter our underground forum where our development resources are kept, including our sprites, our 50+ page plot outline, our original soundtrack, the working plot script, and the game engine, among other things.

Please let me know if you're interested and able to help. Or if you have a friend who may be interested, please encourage them to message me or comment here. We really need dependable people who can deliver some results if we want to release this thing any time soon.

Thank you for your time,
Mr. Bekkler

TLDR: We need RMXP maps.

I really enjoyed it! for a demo is great!
How is this coming?

Nicely, we have more detailed updates on the Chrono Compendium's Forums, here http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/board,96.0.html
Did this game just get 400 new downloads in the past 2 hours?
Once a member of RMN, always a member of RMN!
...? Weird... I haven't seen this game get any action for months, decide to play it about 10 minutes ago, now it's a buzzer?
The buzz score has increased by 35,000 in a day, which is unheard of.
I don't know how this is happening. Is somebody just sitting there clicking the download button hundreds of times? Or are that many people actually downloading the demo? A few days ago, that number was under 4000, which is still a huge amount for a demo. I've tried googling the game, and the best I can guess is maybe it's popular in non-english speaking countries as well? That would be cool, but again, I don't know for sure.

How do you see the buzz score? And what makes it increase?
I can see buzz score because I am an admin and I look directly in the database.

Buzz score increases when users interact with your gameprofile. So when they view the profile, download the game, make a comment, submit some media or post a review a gameprofile generates "buzz" (with some things generating more buzz score than others). And over time, the buzz score decays.

It is used as a general indicator of the activity on a gameprofile.
Interesting. Well I hope it's genuine. It's great motivation for the team, including myself!
Whoa another download and buzz spike!
I don't really understand this,It has so many downloads yet no reviews 0_o,suspicioussssss!!

Anyways looks really good.Going to download..
im not big on demos honestly, but from gameplay of this that ive seen on youtube i think that when its full ver is released ill download it and play the shit outta it, it looks exceedingly good and i love the new chars, also im glad that the frog character is only optional because quite frankly, i hated frog from chronotrigger, anyway im looking forward to this and ill be waiting
It is suspicious, ahmed, I can't make total sense out of it. I attribute the download numbers to the fact that it's admittedly riding on the popularity of the Chrono series, but at least I can say we're doing our BEST not to disappoint fans of the series like us! It also may have to do with the fact that it is a demo, thus there is no commitment to finish a whole game, downloading it is just a taste of what is to come. Again, these are just guesses, I have no idea what actually happened/is happening.

And thanks, steeleyedblue! That means a lot! Frog from Chrono Trigger is one of my favorites, but our frog character is not really what he seems to be, I promise! Also, he's not CT's Frog. Not at all.

Oh no! I forgot that's what I chose to host the demo. Okie doke, I did upload to mediafire as well when people complained about MU originally, so luckily I don't have to re-upload anything. The new link has been submitted and is now available. Sorry for the downtime!

I did a lot of promoting on the game and website itself on some of the website forums that I'm a part of.
I don't get on here often, but I know the forums that I frequent a lot of people would be interested.

Looking forward to the final games of all these chrono sequels ^^
Wow thanks for the interest, people! A clue to the full release date is in the latest uploaded picture, but it's an estimate and we're trying to make sure we don't release a solid date and then miss that deadline, so take it with a grain of salt. I'll say that I don't expect it to be any later than this Christmas. Also since this game and Prelude have essentially the same team, the release schedule should be Shift then Prelude (and I think Lance intends to release the Final Mix of Chrono Alter in between), then I'll be releasing a compiled Player's Guide, with all the concept sketches, final art pieces, all the maps, walkthrough, item list, monster details (at least the bosses, maybe all monsters if I can manage it), all the secret hidden stuff, some clarification on theories we used to form the plot, special notes from the team, and more (yes there is a lot more).
