Demo Revamp Going Up

The revamped demo is going up just as I'm writing this. Hopefully it will be available for download soon.

The revamped demo does not add any chapters that weren't in the original demo. This is mostly because ending on Chapter 4 would be really boring. However, there are a few changes from the original demo version:

- One of the three demo endings is now extended.
- The game now has a custom menu. It's fully functioning, however, there are currently no hover or select displayables, meaning you can't really tell when you've selected certain options. The main place where this probably stands out is in the loading screen. Loading does work. Just click on the load button, and even though nothing will appear to change, selecting your saves will now load them. I'm really sorry about this complication. It will be fixed, no questions asked, in the full version. For now, blame the Ren'py documentation for being utterly worthless.
- Some new expressions for characters.
- Two new backgrounds.
- Some of the art is now cleaned up. The CGs are still rough, however.
- General bugfixes and edits applied.

If you run into any problems, please comment about it. Otherwise, have fun!

Progress on full version:

The game contains 4,890 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 71,102 words,
for an average of 14.5 words per screen.
The game contains 75 menus.

Announcement

Welp. The demo download is down.

Thanks to the recent death of Megaupload, the demo download is down. I have a backup, though it's a pain to get to. I'm thinking I may take advantage of this chance to put up a new, slightly updated version up instead. It won't add any more scenes, but some of the small issues will be fixed, and a couple more art assets will be added.

So the download is going to be down for a bit, but I'll do everything I can to get a new, improved one up within the week.

Looking for Chapter 4 Proofreaders

The rather long fourth chapter of The World Is Made of Paper is finally finished. To keep the proofreading workload, and my own need for editing, under control, I figure it's probably best to handle it chapter by chapter, rather than all at once.

Chapter four begins where the demo left off, so anyone who played through the demo should have no trouble understanding what's going on. It also works fully in-game, so you'll also get to see it in action, if you so choose.

All help will be given credit, of course, and drawing from me as a small repayment. Thank you in advance.

Also, thank you everyone who nominated the game for Misaos! It's really encouraging to see even just the simple nominations for it!

Progress Report

The World Is Made of Paper now at over 50,000 words! Also, a screenshot.

It's just as the title says. The game now officially contains over 50,000 words. It's the most exciting thing to be announced today, I'm sure.

Also, since numbers about words mean absolutely nothing to anyone but me, I also have a new screenshot with a background and Julia expression that don't appear in the demo. Enjoy, I guess.

-------------------------

The game contains 3,437 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 53,783 words,
for an average of 15.6 words per screen.
The game contains 42 menus.

Game Design

Multiple Outfits

People don't always wear the same outfit everyday, because that would be a little unpleasant. Wanting to reflect this, I've been tossing around the idea of giving characters a couple of different outfits. With a tablet it shouldn't be particularly difficult.

Here's one of Marianne's new ones, next to her original, which has been slightly cleaned up:

Another for Trevor:

Thoughts? If I go along with this, which I probably will, I'll post one of each character's alternate outfits every now and then. The rest will be kept quiet until the full game is released.

----------------

The game contains 2,439 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 40,174 words,
for an average of 16.5 words per screen.
The game contains 22 menus.

Miscellaneous

Back to Work, This Time with a Tablet

After a long period of ongoing computer troubles and busy summer travel, I'm finally starting work back up for the game. If all goes according to plan, I should be able to make fairly regular updates on my progress from here on.

Better yet, I have a tablet now, so the art can take a pretty dramatic leap forward in both quality and quantity. It will be much less difficult for me to color now. The only downside for me is that it might lead to me needing to completely redo most of the art.

As soon as I get any new graphics done, I'll be sure to post them for feedback. Until them, you can always be sure I'll be writing.

The game contains 2,322 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 38,317 words,
for an average of 16.5 words per screen.
The game contains 17 menus.
