"The rad is a unit of absorbed radiation dose. The rad was first proposed in 1918 as "that quantity of X rays which when absorbed will cause the destruction of the cells in question..." It was defined in CGS units in 1953 as the dose causing 100 ergs of energy to be absorbed by one gram of matter. It was restated in SI units in 1970 as the dose causing 0.01 joule of energy to be absorbed per kilogram of matter." - From Wikipedia

RAD Is the New Black is a game being made for the 2011 Valedictory Game Drive with the theme of "Rad Dogs".

RItNB is (or will be!) a futuristic rm2k3 based ABS shoot-em-up/adventure RPG. I've always wanted to try making an ABS game in RM (with plans for more adventurous ones in the future) so I thought WHY NOT. As it's for an event I'm most likely going to keep the storyline pretty non-serious (as is the theme of the entire game) and try to focus on fun and gameplay - which will be mostly shooting and puzzle solving to advance through the cold, steel world.

The game uses a limited palette throughout - Greyscale, Reds & Greens. I thought I'd try something a little different stylistically.

More updates to come as the event deadline advances!

...and then there were two.

So what's happening with this?

Well it was meant to be an "event game" for the Valedictory Game Drive that I soon realized I wouldn't finish by the deadline. Long story short; I should be continuing with this game anyway and I have a new team member.

Dudesoft is now on-board and if all goes to plan will be doing awesome artwork and comic-book style animated cutscenes for this game.

Here is a teaser sketch of the protagonist, Red, by Dudesoft:

Dudesoft will be listed as a developer because although he is not making any of the actual gameplay, he will be using rm2k3 to make the animated cut-scenes and will therefore be eventing a lot. This, at least to me, makes him a developer :D

Collab GO!

I love the video! But, the beam is way too wide for only hitting one row's worth of enemies. It overlaps the other dogs in the beginning but doesn't seem to damage them (or at least it doesn't "aggro" them)

Thanks :)

Yeah the beam is huge (but honestly, I kinda like it that way?) The other dogs were stationary anyway :P so they weren't active events and I don't know how to make my ABS hit multiple rows or if that'd even be a good idea. Yeah.. It does overlap.. And I've been considering resizing it for a while..I'll consider it.

Set transparency on the beam!! The dog who ran at you was totally covered by it even though you missed. If it's more transparent this will remove the issue of not being able to see, and lets you avoid reducing the beam's size and hence awesomeness too much.

Also, it should be fairly easy; just have it check the coordinate for the row you're firing in +/- 1 and that'll make it a 3-row wide beam. But I don't suggest it.

Oh yeah that dog aha (I guess you mean the first one - the second one was 5 hits to kill). Well sadly I thought of transparency ages ago but it's an overlapping battle animation which means the overlapping parts of the sections will be twice as opaque as the rest and give it a horrible look. I might reduce the size somewhat if I can't find another work around.. This is all very early days so things could change :)

I should really have put this on hiatus.

Let's just say the lack of updates from me on my projects have been due to a lot of work being done on a *secret project* with another rmn member which will hopefully blow a fair few people away :D

This of course doesn't mean this project is scrapped. It just means that for now it's taken aback seat due to the amount of dedicated work this *secret project* requires at the moment. If all goes well then all will be revealed in good time :D

I definitely appreciate the interest though :P
