Regrets and Desires

*peeks head in to check no-one is around, then sneaks in*

Wow... it feels almost alien for me to sit down and write another blog (No. 198 as of writing). Not to mention the last blog for this game was written more than two years ago. And because Icebound is still pending, I'll probably just write the blog here.

So you'd probably be asking me why I'm writing another piece for a game that was completed in November 2014?

Well, thing is... The commercial evil is calling out to me. Like most hobbyists, I do dream about making a full-time living out of doing something I love so I can quit my dreary, soul-sucking 8-5 job.

It can seriously stifle the creative spirit and probably one of the reasons why my game-dev passion just vanished a few years ago. But now, having reached the ripe old age of 30 and forever leaving my twenties behind, I figured that:

1) I can't take life too seriously (most of my games have been pretty serious)
2) Let go of past grudges and
3) It is about high-time I decided to make the life I want to live and not be slave to a dreary job where getting a double bonus at the end of the year makes it bearable (it isn't).

I've also decided to buck-up on my art skills so that when I do go commercial one day, I can at least save myself a few hundred bucks by not hiring an artist. zero-project's (my music-muse) music is free for all commercial work, so that's one less problem to worry about.

Hello Laine, my old friend.

I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed at trying to familiarise myself with MV. The engine has enormous potential, but all these plug-ins... Yanfly is seriously on a roll. To someone who has been using VX since late 2010-early 2011, to me it feels like the equivalent of going from paddling around in a baby pool, to diving off the 10-metre springboard. But I know it will pay off in the long-term. But I'll probably end up making a few short games in MV before taking this huge step.

It's exciting, but also terrifying at the same time. I need to let go of my innermost fears and just release all that pent-up creative energy. What is my innermost fears, you ask?

Well...

It is the fear of failure. Also, the fear of letting down people who expect great things from you, who expect you to be at the top of your game no matter what. But worst of all, for me at least, is when someone (whether in real life or on the internet) expresses immense disappointment in you. That... has always struck me hard and always sits like a lead balloon in my chest.

As to what happened about a year-and a half ago...

I regret it, and bitterly. I lost a few good friends that day, and I still it to this day. Every time I thought about RMN during my hiatus, that was the first incident I thought of. But I guess I'll have to learn to live with it.

So, here's to a better and more productive 2018! No more fears, no more past regrets, and no more looking back.

This is Luchi, who is now officially back from the dead, signing out.
Blog No. 198 written.

Also, the blog title is totally not a reference to an episode in Granblue.

I think mine was close to 8, but then I spent a bit of time, going 'ooooh look at the pretty.'
I'm a little bit worried because I can't find the page for volume II...

I'm a little bit worried because I can't find the page for volume II...

Volume II will carry on from this page, Yuna is incorporating it into one large game, with an option to import your save from the end of Vol I straight in so you can continue where you left off. I think she's planning on having it done before the end of the year.
Pressure, pressure. >< Yes, I do have to hope it done in time for Xmas for you all. =)

I said planning, plans can be delayed...don't you dare
I'm already feeling depressed as I write these last few scenes for the game. I suppose when the game is done and dusted, I'll know exactly how J.K Rowling felt when she wrote the last sentence for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Probably, except over on Pottermore she's adding new content all the time. So it's not like she's actually left the HP world.

I suppose in this context that translates as sequel? j/k
…Or possibly a prequel. I wouldn’t mind having a game based off the original hero, Cuchulain, and diving into the events of the Atlan Period and just seeing more about that.

But then the “cracker” needs to be finished as well… Oh, and there’s that Phantasy Star looking game that you’re secretly working on that might indicate what the next step may be after Enelysion and Tristian get finished.

Don’t feel sad for Laine – oh no! She’ll probably come back...in one form or another.

Perhaps she could be a future Super Smash Bros. participant.

(Which, besides Mega Man, I would totally main.)

The story of the four heroes, the founding of the countries that comprise the continent. The political intrigue and machinations behind the scenes as each new country is born and grows. The history of the Fianna and their interactions with humans. Yep that land is fertile for prequels.

Don't put ideas into my head, you two. XD

We're just planting seeds Yuna, it's up to you if you let them flourish. ;)

I do like the idea of a fighting game, though. XD I already have a battle-system for VX that mimics it in a way. Plus Blitz-like skill execution for moves.

Anyway, need to finish that box of crackers and wrap up Enelysion. Mind you, the plot with regards to a prequel would be extremely cliché. XD

You can carry that off, hell you did the trope list for this game and it hit a lot, and we still enjoy it and keep coming back for more. Clichés get to be clichés because they work...and I'm going to go away now so you can get the crackers finished.
The few FE I played were also based on the stories of the same clan. Just newer or older generation. What s wrong with older generation that created such fine descedant?
Hey, I was just thinking. Now that Lucina is in the new Smash Bros., if you can change the color of her hair and costume to green – then you’ll get a close enough looking Laine! I mean, even the first letter in her name is exactly the same – and they both use swords! :D

Something to think about, huh?

Also, BTW, how’s the progress goin’ on this? You still trying to work on the cracker some more, or are you almost done finishing the whole box? *munch munch*
Going to try and finish up Enelysion first ( need to map one more dungeon, write out three more cutscenes, and that'll be the end of it =) ). Aaand then I'll start on that box of crackers, lol.

Funny you mentioned Lucina. Her name is very similar to the name of my favourite ever Fire Emblem character ( and Tristian's Expy ). XD

Priceless. That is from my actual playthrough from Radiant Dawn. Seeing 0 Hit always cracks me up.
just played this and I love it. the game play was smooth and the music for it was well chosen. not to mention the story is great.
Yeees, progress is real slow even though I've hit that 300th map. It's funny you know, but when you start getting to the end of a project you've been working on for so long, you just want to drag it out for as long as possible.

Just as long as this gets done, I'll be happy. I need to set a deadline... I was hoping to finish it by late September ( so that the full release comes out exactly a year after Vol I ) but I'll see.

Keep your fingers crossed!
I've picked up Patrick in town and spoken to Krei who tells me my contact wants to meet at a private place. My journal gives me the hint to visit the abandoned warehouse. I've already been there and looted it. I go back and find my contact, but he just keeps saying he will only speak to Laine. Then Laine says "that would be me", and nothing else happens. How to move forward from here as the contact will not engage other than that. Thanks.

There you go. Replace that map and the scene will commence. =)
