Regrets and Desires

*peeks head in to check no-one is around, then sneaks in*

Wow... it feels almost alien for me to sit down and write another blog (No. 198 as of writing). Not to mention the last blog for this game was written more than two years ago. And because Icebound is still pending, I'll probably just write the blog here.

So you'd probably be asking me why I'm writing another piece for a game that was completed in November 2014?

Well, thing is... The commercial evil is calling out to me. Like most hobbyists, I do dream about making a full-time living out of doing something I love so I can quit my dreary, soul-sucking 8-5 job.

It can seriously stifle the creative spirit and probably one of the reasons why my game-dev passion just vanished a few years ago. But now, having reached the ripe old age of 30 and forever leaving my twenties behind, I figured that:

1) I can't take life too seriously (most of my games have been pretty serious)
2) Let go of past grudges and
3) It is about high-time I decided to make the life I want to live and not be slave to a dreary job where getting a double bonus at the end of the year makes it bearable (it isn't).

I've also decided to buck-up on my art skills so that when I do go commercial one day, I can at least save myself a few hundred bucks by not hiring an artist. zero-project's (my music-muse) music is free for all commercial work, so that's one less problem to worry about.

Hello Laine, my old friend.

I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed at trying to familiarise myself with MV. The engine has enormous potential, but all these plug-ins... Yanfly is seriously on a roll. To someone who has been using VX since late 2010-early 2011, to me it feels like the equivalent of going from paddling around in a baby pool, to diving off the 10-metre springboard. But I know it will pay off in the long-term. But I'll probably end up making a few short games in MV before taking this huge step.

It's exciting, but also terrifying at the same time. I need to let go of my innermost fears and just release all that pent-up creative energy. What is my innermost fears, you ask?

Well...

It is the fear of failure. Also, the fear of letting down people who expect great things from you, who expect you to be at the top of your game no matter what. But worst of all, for me at least, is when someone (whether in real life or on the internet) expresses immense disappointment in you. That... has always struck me hard and always sits like a lead balloon in my chest.

As to what happened about a year-and a half ago...

I regret it, and bitterly. I lost a few good friends that day, and I still it to this day. Every time I thought about RMN during my hiatus, that was the first incident I thought of. But I guess I'll have to learn to live with it.

So, here's to a better and more productive 2018! No more fears, no more past regrets, and no more looking back.

This is Luchi, who is now officially back from the dead, signing out.
Blog No. 198 written.

Also, the blog title is totally not a reference to an episode in Granblue.

Yay, long time coming but well deserved
Was there ever any doubt? There wasn't even much chatter in the Featured Game thread beforehand. It just got Featured because, well, it's Enelysion.
Thanks, guys. Guess Tristy has some very big shoes to fill now, lol.

E: Though I am a bit embarrassed to admit that the game's DL count is pitifully low compared to other Featured games.

I beleive the counter updated after you released the new version of the game. It was quite bigger as I remember.
Maybe it was because I also removed the older downloads. Since it does impact the overall DL count.
Haha, yes! It’s about bloody well damn time. :)

Congratulations yuney on finally scoring one of those prestigious “Featured Game” badges that everybody here wants to have but only a few can only manage to collect. I’m proud of you, as this was one of the finest games that I’ve played the whole entire year. You really did a good job!

I guess all that’s left to do now is to get one of those Misaos awards (that, I believe, that rumor has it, is completely entirely made out of chocolate) to cap off the whole thing. Of course, us fans and anonymous voters can only do so much.

Well, I guess that too.
I'm not holding thumbs for any Misaos, though. There are far too many other great games that have been released this year, and players generally look for games that offer something to bring something new to the table. Enelysion wasn't designed to break new ground, after all. =)

After all, Misaos don't give you MS. :p
- But they sure can make you look good. (Just ask TFT.)

Yeah, this year we actually had a lot of good and pretty remarkable games released on here, so it’s almost kind of like a crapshoot with some of them in terms of which one will win what and what not. Still, you just never knowwww!!!

At least you’re not up against that mangy mutt this time around unlike last year. That's a good thing, right?
Yes, the fact that Pom is not in the running for this year is a bit of a relief ( or Dawn of War, for that matter ). I guess I will just have to redouble my efforts with Tristy, but even that is a stretch. We don't know what 2015 will bring, after all. But I will be working on my sci-fi game with its custom resources.

I suppose it is a good thing for the RM community as a whole. The quality and variety of games is vastly different from the pool we had in say, 2011/2012 ( both years having 'no-brainer' sweeps in the form of MotW and Star-Stealing Prince ).

Congrats on the feature Yuna! :)

We're hoping to make a splash in 2015 ourselves. Anyways, looking forward to what Tristrian brings in the future~
I can imagine that FFD will make a HUGE splash in 2015. XD
I can't play the game: a missing file alert continues popping. Everytime I press something i get a missing alert, so I quit ;)

Yes I have.. Actually I CAN play the game, but, f.e. to attack I have to bi-click because of an error message. When I walk nothing happens... only if I click. I'll try re-download the RTP even if the messages are for soundtrack and stuff.
^ Did you read the readme file? =) If not, here's the solution to your problem.

First, make a new folder, and call it Enelysion: Redux.
Put the compressed download into that folder and extract like normal with WinRAR or WinZip.
Install the fonts included if you don't have them yet.

I really need to put that on the main page...

Hi. I've posted my feedback on RMW, but was told you don't visit the site anymore, so thought I'd post it here. I kept meaning to try this game for some time now. I know that the game is complete and you'll probably not be adding any more changes, but if my suggestions can at least help you out in your next project, then I've done my job. Also I apologise in advance if a lot of the feedback sounds negative. I'm just giving my honest opinion.

Firstly, in regard to your opening post on the game's RMW page, I'd personally recommend you not to slag off other creative works in your game description. It's very unprofessional. So my suggestion is to remove that bit about the one-winged angel, but it's all up to you.

Anyways, on to the game.

The intro was a bit of an info dump. It just started talking about the backstory and all that, which should really be saved for later and introduced in more interesting ways. Showing rather than telling is much more engaging. Also, for an intro like that where you can't skip each text box, it would've been nice to make the whole thing skippable, at least for those players who decide to replay the game.

I could tell right away that you've put a lot of work into the visuals. Visually the game does look stunning. The mapping is great and the menu look and the icons are very nice-looking as well. However, I found the text size to be a bit too small. Or maybe it was the font. But in general it was a bit painful to read it.

There are a lot of locations accessible at the start. I see a lot of towns and villages and too many NPCs to talk to. I personally found the game to be painfully slow at the start. There was not enough action and no story hook at all. Like the first 40 minutes I was just walking around the entire continent and looking first for the church and second for the pub, which brings me to another point. The quest journal doesn't make anything clear at all. I didn't even know the Dirty Dog was a pub, since it never mentioned it. It could've been any place in any town. The third quest says for us to meet a stranger in 'that' storage room. I was confused there since it didn't specify which storage room. Luckily it was within the same town, otherwise I would've spent ages looking for it. My personal suggestion is to make instructions in the quest journal clearer, especially for a semi-open world game like this.

As I mentioned above, there wasn't really any story hook at the start, and all the characters felt quite one-dimensional. They all speak as though they're reading lines off from a script and so the dialogue doesn't really sound natural. I really couldn't relate myself to the plot or to the main character. The only emotion she ever shows is angst, which starts to get annoying after some time.

The music is very nice. I'd say I enjoyed every track I've heard so far. They really do provide some nice atmosphere. Was the music custom-made for the game or was it from royalty-free sites?

Now onto the battles and game mechanics.

I noticed in some of the earlier posts people were saying that battles were very difficult. I am guessing you must've lowered the difficulty since then, so kudos on that. I found the combat to be balanced fine in terms of difficulty. The battle animations were kind of slow. It would've been nice to have them go by a bit faster. One thing that annoyed me about the battles is how random the weaknesses and resistances of enemies were. Like why is the common forest wasp immune to fire? Or mushrooms that are immune to fire and cold? They just didn't make any logical sense. And when I check the resistances in the enemy info, I am greeted by some confusing icons with no explanation as to what they mean. What does the yellow icon mean, what of red and blue? It was only much later I realised that red must be the weaknesses, and I am still not sure.

The MP of both characters is way too low. I run out of it after every battle and there are too few restorative items, each of which restores very little amount. I ended up using basic Attack as Laine most of the time, because I couldn't afford to use my skills, and because it was less of a gamble as far as enemy resistances were concerned.

Also, is there any way to undo the assigned points when upgrading my characters' attributes? I noticed as soon as I put in a point, it gets set in stone and I can't remove it in case I made a mistake.

That's about it. I played for about 2 hours. The game is not bad. At the very least it's quite polished and I didn't come across any major bugs, but it didn't really jump at me. Visuals and music were good points. Combat was average. And story and characters weren't interesting at all. I might play some more of the game, just to see more pretty maps and listen to the in-game music, but I really couldn't get into the story at all.

1. Where do you go after arrived in Gorain port ? I speak with everyone in there but no cutscene triggered

2. How to enter Abandoned Shrine ? The front door is locked and the side entrance lead to a room but i cant do anything there
Holllllllddddd onnnnnnn, Pat and Laine don't get together?!?!? Nooooo... I can't keep playing like this. Say it ain't so! (I'll probably keep playing but I hate heartbreak between characters.) I have no choice but to play through my tears then...
