Looking back

So today marks exactly three years since I posted Enelysion over at the now
defunct ( well, it's still active, but the site has gone to the dogs to due new admin ) rpgmakervx.net. While the game's 1.5 stint over there was some of my best of my RM-making days, I have to say that the community of three years ago and today is not the same. Look at the screen below and you'll see just how MUCH support games got between 2010-2012-ish.

As you can see, I haven't updated Enelysion over there since April 2012. XD

Developers will be lucky to even scrap 100 replies to their topics nowadays. And those replies weren't just useless filler or empty praise, they were full of feedback and encouragement. Virtually every developer back then had 'support' badges for their game, and it wasn't uncommon to see nearly every user have some sort of support badge in their signature. Indeed, Enelysion, Origin and Relic were some of the most widely supported games back then. And it's sad that many of
the games listed in that screen never got to the revered Completed status (Linus, AoA and hopefully Origin by that wacky Emmych are still in development so that's good ).

I wouldn't even consider Enelysion 'fully' completed since a sequel is in the works. The VX-era was pretty amazing... If I am brutally honest with myself, the game-making crowd of today doesn't seem to have that passion for game-making that I noticed back then ( noticable by the half-assed products developers put out, and it's even worse for the commerical market >< ). The screenshot thread at another site has gone to the dogs as well, sorry to say.

Where is your passion for map-making, people?!? I'm not active there anymore, but I lurk, like a fly on the wall and what I see is quite ah... disturbing.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. Enelysion will celebrate its third year on this site in late-March. But it has been a success so far, garnering nearly 1100 replies from two sites over the last 3 or so years. But it really peaked in 2011-2012. Don't we all miss those days as developers where your project became 'THE' hot topic... But like all things in life, all good things must come to and end. And sad to say, but Vol I of Enelysion has reached that point...

Hopefully, I'll reach another milestone ( 2000 downloads ). =) And I'd really, really like you guys to maybe share your moments here, what you liked, disliked etc. Sharing is caring, after all. =)

I remember those days clearly. Always expecting an update from the said projects: Enelysion, Amulet of Athos, LINUS.... I remember to always leave feedback and sharing some ideas with you guys too--and you would do the same for me. Yes, this era has ended, alas; but the drive and creativity has not yet completely disappeared. There are still some people who are willing to give their efforts and make something of good/great quality. Which is one of the main reasons why I disappeared from the rpgmakervx.net and this website for a while: I wanted to restructure Legend of Aldor (LOA)--now called Songs of Aldor--to make it better. So far, I think it's going pretty well, as the story is progressing fairly well and flowing easier (just need to put it into visual, now). But I digress.

When I (seldom) roam here, I still love to see where the projects I have grown to like over the years are faring and how the development is. Did you know I actually rejoiced when I saw that the first part of Enelysion was completed and released? :)

As far as the old website (rpgmakervx.net) goes, you are right in that it has become quite "silent" (for lack of proper term). I dearly miss the old "release a picture (that the game-maker was giving effort into showing something of quality) and get feedback from it." I miss the old "Script has been updated" and the help the people would give. I miss the friendly "competition" as to who would progress faster in making his/her game and releasing it (so to speak). But I digress again.

I am really glad you made it through, even when the times have changed. One thing I could add is that, although there was a great change amongst the developers, you have and should just keep going and make your games for fun. I congratulate you for that. Now that Enelysion: Halcyon Days (EHD) (why am I always thinking it's still called "Red Dawn?") is done, you can finally look back and say "I have made it through. I have done it!" You should be proud of yourself. But instead of leaving it like that and let its essence deteriorate over time, I think you should value it more and more as a relic of your efforts and perseverance. Who cares if there are no more downloads? At least you made yourself and your talents known, yes? ;)

Anyway, that is my rant of the day; and I apologize for the length of it. LOL! You know, from the few years we have spoken together, that I almost never wrote a small amount of words. :P Anyhow, rejoice!
Jaydee, old friend. I was wondering where you disappeared off to. Good to see you again. Your project was another one that stood out for its characters and storyline ( like Linus =) ). When your project comes here, I will be one of your first subscribers. ^^

Yes, Enelysion: Vol I may be done and dusted, but I'm still expressing myself through my second major game, Tristian: Lady of the Lion. I hope it is as successful. :D
Old-school RMVX.net had a pretty fun community. Kind of miss it these days. :(
Well yuna, your game is pretty popular, so don't be disheartened that your game isn't getting much attention. Your game has very pretty mapping, and you are good at telling stories. But don't make the mistake of labelling the community as unsupportive - there are, even if a few, very supportive people that I think their contributions should be appreciated. Every single (nearly) 2000 people who have downloaded your game has supported you, even if they didn't make verbal praise (which I think is underrated here). But you're right, the more support the better, and hopefully we can create a positive change to help support others' games; because there are many fantastic ones out there. :)

Edit: And I still need to review this game. One day. :)
@benny: Nah, I'm not disheartned. Just reminiscing about that amazing community. It's time like this when you wish you can just turn back the clock, but alas... And yes, support in general for most games has dropped drastically. And that sort of leads to a domino effect: Devs become disheartened, they stop working on their games and give up all together. If only there WAS a way to bring back that amazing community spirit that existed on that site... ;_;
If I am brutally honest with myself, the game-making crowd of today doesn't seem to have that passion for game-making that I noticed back then

I found this amusing because it's exactly the sort of thing that the oldschool 2k/3 crowd said in the past after the newer RMs were released and the VX RTP flooded every screenshot thread :P I guess history repeats itself. In fact a lot of what you said sounds familiar (big name projects that everyone was watching, especially) but I'd never personally heard it about VX/Ace era games before (but I guess that was what vx.net was about). I totally understand the sentiment, though.
