Vol II Update

Ok, ok, so I said I wasn't going to do updates, but I have to show some form of progress other than just lumping in a couple of nice looking screens, right? Plus, if the dev doesn't update on a regular basis, they start losing subbers. ><

So... what have I been doing?

Made 5 brand new areas, including a hellish tower packed to the gills with fantastic loot. And obviously serving as an important plot-line dungeon.

It's only three floors, but in order to progress, the player needs to kill virtually every encounter they come across, since the foes drop 'Geis Stones' which need to be placed on pedastals to activate the teleport glyphs.

Wrote out... four major cutscenes. Yeah, four pretty lengthy cutscenes.

Wrapped up one major plot point. One down, two to go. Did some rewrites as well. Nothing major though.

Fixed up most of the ( relatively harmless ) bugs in the current version of the game. A new download will only appear when I wrap up Vol II.

Aaand screens. Because what is an update without them. A boring wall of text, that's what it is!

Yeah, that's a battler I made. XD Death on Two Legs. No, that's not its name.

Patrick: Return of the Woobie. Gosh, Laine is so OP'ed right now. >< Oh, 9 hour mark. Mind you, I finished my Vol I save at 6.5 hours.

And there's the Tower. Pretty dangerous. Literally.

And the Sidhe, the otherworldly realm of spirits.

And now to take a break and play Sims3. XD

I like Death on Two Legs (both the graphic and the name) though given the length of that scythe I'm thinking he's overcompensating :).

Woobie's back, and alls right with the world.
Death on two legs is actually a cool name. I couldn't come up with something better.
lol, Death on Two Legs' original name is actually Necroscythe ( dunno if that sounds cooler or...? )

Nah, that make it sound like you are being attacked by a sentient, though deceased, scythe rather than a reaper/death/thanatos figure.

Death on Two Legs it is. XD He's a boss, obviously.

Be sure to equip that Vanguard Shield for 24,000 lovely EXP. XD May need to overhaul its skillset, make him nastier. >:D

Oh gods, you can't state afflict him at all. Please tell me the woobie is back by then, I'm going to need his light spells.
Actually, the Tower is full of Light-Elemental weapons to help you. And the sword, Claidheamh Solius ( literally, 'Sword of Light' in Celtic Myth ) gives the Aureola spell. And the Paladin Mail gives Cil/Siggy the Holy Weapon status. =) But he's still a toughie. Laine was serving as my healbot ( with the Life Ring, gives her the Mercy skill ).

Right, ok, I can do that. Thanks for the strategy tip BTW.
I'm thinking of adding a glossary of Celtic terms used in the game to the main page as well ( Addit saying Tairngire sounded like a beer, lol. It actually means 'Land of Promise in Welsh ).

It might help those who aren't from a Welsh background, or don't know how to find an English=>Cymraeg translator. My maternal grandmother was Welsh, and a native speaker so that may be why Enelysion feels familiar. One of the weirdest experiences of my life has to be when I was visiting Argentina and I ended up in Patagonia and I heard Welsh being spoken. Seems a group of Welsh colonialists arrived in the 19th century and stayed. There's a little enclave of Wales half a world away from Cardiff, it's bizarre.

Now that's a hashtag I can get behind.
This is a bit off topic from the actual blog post, but it's a question I've been wanting to ask for quite some time now.

Do you think that when Enelysion is done; bug-tested and played to death, should I put the game on other indie-gaming sites? Most of all, do I have what it takes to go... well, commercial? And make a success out of it?

Well as far as the other indie sites goes, yes of course. I mean RMN is supportive and collaborative but it is by no means exclusive. If indeed you do wish to go down the commercial route then having your games known in more than one place is essential.

As to whether or not you've got what it takes, only you can answer that. I can say that I've enjoyed your game more than some I have paid for, but that is only one opinion. You would also need to consider the monetary outlay you would have to make for certain aspects of your games. You're a visual artist so you could quite easily create the required artwork, but in Enelysion for example you've used known musical artists without paying royalties for their work, that would be an impossibility in any future commercial endeavours. I don't doubt you could find royalty free works with some effort, but it is something to consider. Though you could always fund it via crowd-sourcing, as has become the fashion.

Perhaps you should have a talk with some of the members of the community who have made the switch, or at least produced a commercial game after the success of free ones. Artbane & Volrath come immediately to mind, given the cult success of MotW and now their commercial venture. Though I am happy to say they are not exclusively commercial, with the prequel to MotW being a free game currently in production.
Not thinking about going commercial yet, just putting the game out on indie-sites. After all, a developer first needs to gather a following before even thinking of taking the commercial route. However, I will end up replacing some tracks for the next release( like the Enya ones and like... three commercial game tracks ) if I want to post it on other inide-dev sites.

Of course you should put it up on as many different indie game sites as you possibly can; the more exposure = the more downloads and new fans (not to mention some more lovely fan-art) that you’ll get. I think your games are as just as good as anybody else on here, so why not?

Yeah, if you do plan on going commercial someday (which I think you totally should) you’re going to have to replace all those commercial songs that you’re using and replace them and maybe even look or even hire a custom musician to do your music. I’m sure somebody out there will probably help you with that.

But for now – you stay here. Don’t you go wandering off now! *shakes*

(And yay – Patrick’s back! I was starting to miss the little guy towards the end of volume 1.)

Oh no I retract all words of support if departure is part of the package.
Yeah. You signed a no movement clause with us the moment that you came back / registered with us.

- YOU CANNOT LEAVE. EVER. IT’S IN THE CONTRACT!
Relax, I won't be going commercial for quite a while. XD
