So the testing begins... and another thing.

Well... the moment of truth will soon be upon me. I started sending out the game for testing today, so all I have to do is wait. Once the reports come in, all I have to do is process all that info, fix whatever needs to be fixed and... BOOM!

I'm estimating a release for the end of this month, instead of June. And I'm already starting to feel that familiar pressure. I have the feeling I will be physically sick to my stomach on release day. ><

I so badly don't want to disappoint, even though I know that no game is perfect, nor can every game cater to everyone's taste. But yeah, 18 months is starting to culminate into one big package of my blood, sweat and tears. Even though it's far from done (less than 1/2 through the actual plot), I'm hoping I can crack that 15+ hour mark one of these days.

Thankfully, I've got some wonderful testers behind me, two of whom all of you are very familiar with: Archeia and Emmy ( I just hope she'll be able to test, despite what happened to her laptop... :( ). So hopefully it will turn out well.

Another thing: Since this is a character-driven story, how do you guys feel about the characters so far? I want your honest opinions about them ( even if it only about the 2 that were introduced in the demo, since Cillian and Siglud only pop up as playable in the new version ).

Desperately need feedback here. I mean, if the player doesn't care about the characters, then what keeps them going? I really, really value input, you know, and rest assured that I will never, ever discard your opinions as rubbish, or useless, or w/e.

I just want to make this the best I possibly can.

Please.

Well i think your characters are quite nice. Between looks and skills they are a lot of fun. Good luck with getting your testers info together and polished. No worries this game will do fine. Between your team and all the people that will play and help you out, your game will be alright.

I want to wait until I play this new demo to give you my full thoughts on them. What I played before, I didn't have much an opinion either way (I didn't get to know them too much) except that I thought they'd be really adorable together. However, the way you've gone on about them and how you treat them I think will shine through the demo and even by just reading you talk about them makes me feel closer to the characters as well and makes me care about them more. You really love your characters and I think at a certain point, that shows in the game with how well you'd be able to write them.

I can't wait to play the new demo and then I'll give you some better thoughts on it. :)
Like I said before, the amount of development you put into individual NPC's is amazing, and I absolutely love the interactions between them and the main characters, as well as between themselves sometimes! I'll admit, my previous assessment on Lain was...highly personal. She was rough around the edges, and she came out that way in the game, so by those standards you worked them out well. I just don't like the asshole character in games. ANY games. It's really nothing personal, and it's more my fault for letting an opinion get in the way of a good review.

And I totally know what you mean for the disappointment factor for games. Literally every single time I brought out a beta of my game, somehow somewhere there was SOMETHING that went wrong (like for the public beta I have out, I put the starting position of the player on a testing-only map...HRNGGGG-)

But yeah, good luck on your game!
Lol so i was a tester right pyro? JK
@pyrofiend: I'm sorry that you perceived Laine that way, she was never intended to be a jerk-ass character ( because I personally don't like them either ). Hopefully, her personality will become a lot clearer in the new release.

@Ronnie: Yeah, I admit 2 hours is nowhere near enough time to accurately convey character personalities in an RPG. But I do love them, and it will be apparent in one of the many scenes in the game ( some of them are even hidden bonus scenes ^^ ).

A little off topic here now, but:

The thing is, writing female characters, while more fun than writing male characters, is either the author makes them too much of a dreaded 'Mary Sue' or the character is a 'Jerk Sue'. Either that or they are the damsel in distress, a mysterious staff chick *shudder* or irritating cheerful or a Moe * shudders even more*. It's just so hard to get that comfortable 'in-between' personality. This is a personal peeve of mine, but female characters tend to get labelled 'Mary Sues' more often than what perfect male characters get labelled 'Gary Stus'. I hate that.

You're just great Laine, I mean Luchi :3 Having a female lead protagonist makes your game quite the new look on VX games. Most of RPGmakers tend to use male characters and I dont know why. If men can do a lot of stuffs, so as women. :3 That's why I really love having Laine as your lead character :P She is just way too cool :P

I remember a long while ago that there was an article on writing female characters on Extra Credits.

There's the link. Just take a look at it :3
@Pyrofiend: Thanks, I had a look at the PA vid. It was useful in its way, but that guy's voice annoyed me, lol. I think I may remove the old download link now. After all, the demo is more than a year old...( since it was first released May last year and is pretty outdated now ). ><
