Breath of Fire: A Line Ended
The line of the Destined Child has ended.

Latest Download

A demo of the opening sequence is now available for download. Please view the readme here either before playing or before commenting. Thanks for testing!

Story
"The Dragon Clan has thrived in the thousand years since the fall of Deathevan. The leader of the Dragon Clan, the Great Uniter, the Descendant of the Destined Child, is dying. Now, two factions that have lived in one city for so long have begun to divide. Odjn, leader of the Light dragons, and Chetrye of the Dark believe that war is coming, and with no destined child, it's unlikely the Light will survive.

Whispers say that the Goddess has returned..."

Features
-Dynamic storyline unlike and like other titles in the series.
-Return of some familiar faces.
-A true attempt to not cut corners. There will be no tiny cities, no auto generated dungeons. There will be storyline content in almost every area of the game.
-Campfire, a place to chat with your characters about their feelings about what's going on.
-A customizable city similar to Breath of Fire II.
-A custom battle system, with new special powers for all characters, and a unique Dragon system.
-No, none, not any, jarring music. (See yah most of II's soundtrack!) But will be composed of music from across the series.
-A Variation of the Master System.
-And more! (For a more complete list of features click here.)

Our final name, and our commitment to you, the gamer.

The final name for this fan sequel will be Breath of Fire: A Line Ended.

What will we feature?

-And more!

What do we *want* to feature, but are still being considered?
-Animated monsters. As many of you know, Breath of Fire II and on features animated monsters(1 did have some animations). It is likely that we will follow the route of 1, and just have animations on the boss battles, that is not final though.
-THREE main storylines, following the children of the Dover, Chetrye and Odjn families, with completely different, yet interlocking storylines with a unique cadre of characters to play for each. This does mean that you'd get to play as the Dark Dragon faction!
-Turn based battles, still considering this, though.

How is development progressing?
-I have completed the storyline from Dologany, to the cabin, back to Dologany, to the Show Cave, to the Wayward Forest. Banesburn(name pending) is the city directly after, which is in development.
-Have mapped out most of the monsters to about halfway through the game along with the items. The exp curve had to be adjusted, so I will have to tweak it along the way, however, it is presently on track for the content already fully made, IE to just past the Forest.
-Unique Sprites for Chetrye, Odjn, Ryu have been made, working on the others.
-Battle animations have hit a snag, working to the limit of my ability, however, outside help would be excellent.
-Storyline written to the end of the game for the child of Dover. Script written to Windia.
-Currently my main roadblock is making battles not look shitty. This will be a process, and to some degree a daunting task.

I really like the concept of this game so far. This project is definitely auspicious.

I really appreciate all of your comments, I'll have more to show you in the coming days now that I've gotten a number of things completed.
Those sprites need a LOT of work. I suggest giving your descriptions of the characters to someone who's more talented with creating or editing sprites.

Also, the Chetrye clan? There are established clans in the BoF universe, and that isn't one of them. =)

To be honest, no one knows anything of what happened between 2 and 3. I have named three clans, three names you may remember from 5, which is not meant to be a coincidence.

I'm pretty happy with the sprites for now, not even in production yet. Unfortunately I'm not able to use the old sprites, so I have to make new ones from just about nothing.

I was hoping for a more positive response from you, or at least an encouraging one, ah well.

there are established characters in bof2 as well. (ershin is not one)
I'm encouraging you to hand the sprite work over to someone who can edit sprites or create them from scratch. The ones you've shown are, for lack of a better term, terrible. I'm not saying this to be mean. I WANT them to be good, obviously.

Make a post on the forums and ask for a little help with them. RMN is a helpful place, I'm sure someone will work with you.

Also, I'd try to stick with the source material instead of creating your own things when it comes to things that are already established in the BoF universe.

With these three clans you seemingly created out of thin air, you're almost forced to have all three die out by the end of the game, since they don't exist in Breath of Fire III. Get it? You have to be careful when following canon for the base of your game.

At the end of the game there's only a handful left, and not enough to make one clan really. They all do die out in that sense. We see the three heads of the clans again though, in five.

While I see where you're coming from, I also want to make something with more substance than 1 and 2, and I felt that this was interesting. I could just have the Light and Dark clans, but why not go in depth? Perhaps Clan was the wrong word. Chetrye Family? Because they're all dragon clan.

I think I see where youre coming from with me using the word clan, I'll swap it out to family, I didn't even think.

I'll see if someone can offer some help on the forums for sprites.

I could open menu at the breath of fire screen, for some reason, it stays there. Sure that was just a test anyway.

Isn't it a little presumptuous to actually call your game the sixth in the series??

Yeah I already addressed that on the main page, about one paragraph down.

As of now, there will be no 6(It's been about 7-8 years since 5). While my game will never live up to the standard, I will try to do my best to make a decent game.

I can't win calling it 2-2 or 6, not sure what to call it... lol 2.5?

Per your suggestion I took out the title scene with VI in it in the demo, altered my logo on the site to reflect 2.5 and updated any text referencing it at 6.

Hopefully 2.5 will settle any debates as to the title.

I'm not going to lie. None of these proposed titles for this game sound right to me. First off, I never got the impression that Breath of Fire 3 was a continuation of the story presented in Breath of Fire 2. While BoF3 has the opening panorama with the party members in the original game, I always got the impression that if the events of the original game happened within the world of BoF3, it is a tale of mythic proportions who's telling has twisted and altered in the passage of time. Nowhere does BoF3 even as so much mention that BoF2 ever happened. At least, as far as I remember the game.

...Or you can ignore everything I just said, and work on the actual game, rather than bothering with getting the title right.

hehe

you are right, 3 acts like 2 never happened, though 2 is directly after 1, which is such a weird thing, maybe they felt deathevan was a small fry and not worth mentioning? lol -.-
BoF2 takes place 500 years after BoF1, not exactly "right after."

Also, I'm pretty sure BoF3 does in fact take place in the same world as either 1 or 2... too lazy to go looking it up right now though. Hit up wikipedia.

As far as I know, 3 is in the same world as well. They don't swap to a new world till 4, though some think that 4 is also the same world, before all the other games, though some think 5 is before 4, and 4 is before 1, 2 and 3... lol

By right after I meant it is generally thought of as a direct sequel, and we even know how long it was from 1 to 2, however, we have no idea how long it was from 2 to 3.
As for the title, may I suggest doing something similar to Chrono Trigger: Prelude to a Dream? Lance was calling it CT2 for a while, and it didn't quite fit.

Breath of Fire 2: Extended Title Here. "Return of the Goddess" or "Dragon Falling" or even "An End of Things" like you have. Since the BoF series tends to not take place immediately after each other, and this is a direct continuation of 2, might be cool! :-)

Good luck, sir.

I'll have to think of a really good tagline ^^
