One rainy day in the industrialized port city of Dejanor, a mage named Moshi Cenalus leaves her dingy hotel room to buy something to eat. It was just a normal day for her, until she has a run-in with some local thieves.

Following that dangerous encounter, she befriends the woman who helped her fend off the attackers, and learns of a forest called "Last Sanctuary". It is rumored that the mages there live free from the scorn and oppression perpetuated by an influential order of clerics, who believe that mages are a danger to society.

While in search of the fabled Last Sanctuary, her journey crosses with those of the people she meets along the way. They come from a variety of backgrounds, from the impoverished worker who wishes for a better life, to a disgraced soldier seeking redemption, to a reclusive queen in the snowy north willing to sacrifice everything to save her country from the spread of industrialization.

Little did the mage know that her seemingly insignificant actions would, in the end, contribute to major changes in the people and places around her.

But would it be for better or for worse?

- Battle enemies whose movesets and tactics can change depending on difficulty level.
- No random encounters! Enemies are visible on maps, and they will even scurry out of the way of a very high-leveled party.
- Adjust the battle difficulty at any time if the game feels too hard or too easy.
- Embark on sidequests that further develop the setting and characters.
- Customize characters by equipping them with Devices and Skill Books, as well as upgrading equipment via crafting.
- Includes custom character art, enemy sprites, and music (in progress).

The Return

My last blog was...almost 3 years ago? Sorry about that :/
I gradually stopped coming by for a while because I had become too anxious to post anything, kind of lost interest in rpg maker after MV, and somehow wound up getting into the ME3 multiplayer and modding scene as some sort of makeshift exposure therapy. (Who knew that shitposting about turians was the key to get myself to talk to people again?) And there's been a user on here who has been ripping off a lot of my work in my absence and not stopping after being reported a long time ago, so that's pissed me off enough to return.

I've been refreshing myself with old notes to figure out where I was going, knocked out a bunch of old to-dos, and cut one scene because it was no longer needed. I'm also planning to reduce the scope further because some sidequests are a pain to test, and the light exploration I had in mind a long time ago no longer makes sense with the characters being forced to go into hiding due to plot reasons.

Looking at this project with fresh eyes, I realized that the status screen totally clashed with the other menus. Before, its description box was on the top and HP/FP was on the bottom, while the description in all other menu screens was on the bottom. But now they match! I also redrew Moshi's portrait to add more belts and make her look a little older.

After that, I drew a couple quick pieces of concept art for one of the oneiroi, an inhabitant of the astral plane/dream world. He already has a name and some dialogue implemented, but had no portrait until now.

I'm currently working on coloring his finalized waist-up ingame portrait which uses elements from the two drafts. Although he's not a party member, he'd be a major contributor to Moshi's storyline, moveset, and the title of the game as well.

Just finished the demo.

You certainly left a good cliff hanger at the end of the demo. The mapping was excellent, the battle system has a lot of potential, and I didn't spot a single spelling error in the dialogue.

The storyline and setting are well thought.

I hope you release another demo soon.

The only suggestion I would make is to include a tutorial explaining how the "momentum" bar functions.

Thanks for your feedback. :)

Did you mean the chain bar? There's a tutorial on that in the battle in the prologue. It'll only appear if tutorials were enabled in the menu beforehand (they're off by default).
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If a player is the kind of person who needs tutorials, they probably aren't going to be opening the menu and fiddling with the options in the prologue, heh. Might be good to give the player the option to choose that when they start a new game, or just turn then on by default.
digging this game a bit but it crashed when i went to battle with some flying things in the town. wasn't given a chance to save prior to that...

is this bug a common thing?

I don't think anyone's mentioned a bug like that before. What does the error message say? Can you make it happen again?

(if you mean the battle with the little blue hornets in a house, it's optional in case you wanted to finish the one sidequest in the demo early)

Yeah, that was the one. It was some kind of RGSS script error. I'll be sure to skip it the next time I play. Good on you for making cutscenes skippable btw, restarting would be a pain otherwise.

why would it be dead if I uploaded a screenshot today?

Most of my progress has been on plot outlines, spreadsheets for the crafting system, and other non-graphical things that I doubt anyone's interested in reading rambly blog posts about...

And a great screen-shot it is too.

You're right, rambling 'blog posts wouldn't be entertaining, but occasional updates keep your subscribers hopeful. Given the failure rate of games it's good to know that one with this much potential is still a going concern.

That being said, you respond to comments when they arise and have done so for the life of this project so we all know you are chipping away at your vision even when we don't hear from you.

But it is nice to get a progress screenie or post now and again.

agreed with nhubi
i didnt mean to come off as rude.
i just want to know that this project is still alive : (
as it will probably be in my top 20 favorite rpg maker games if/when finished(tho its to hard for me to actually make a list for that)
Hey, I have three questions:

1. How do you save?
2. At the beginning of the game, where you buy the beef jerky from the shopkeeper, I went into the Buy/Sell mode just to see what it was like. I went into the sell tab and accidentally chose an empty category and I didn't know how to exit.
3. Is there a controls page anywhere, to show which buttons do what? I only know the arrows and enter bar.

This is a very good game though, and I am enjoying it so far. Keep up the good work!

Knocked out all the book skills, some cutscenes, portraits, and posting much less on this site, I guess. I still don't really have much to say about any of it, really.

Most of my progress updates have been offsite because I got sick and tired of spending hours excessively editing those lengthy blog posts I used to write (because I bet someone would complain if I post a short one haha).

I would love to see more blog posts for this game, be they excessively lengthy or short!

(I mean, the long ones are better, but I know it takes a lot of time away from working on the game.)

I've played a few demos that were good, but several games were eventually cancelled. Please tell me this will not be cancelled.

I also had a bug of sorts in the beginning. Don't remember exactly what the error was but the game shut down due to the error. It was in the alley when the girls were about to fight that gang of bad guys:) Ran through from the beginning again and saved before the fight and it did not happen again.

SSSOOOOOOO, please tell us you will finish this game AND give us the link here so we will be happy:)
