Not good, not bad, not ugly.

This is the second game made by Corfaisus I played. The first was Mystic Dawn, and I liked it because it was a decent lenght game about vengeance. Nice theme and adventure.

This time we play as another blue haired adventurer, named Markus. Unlike Allen, the hero of Mystic Dawn, he would like to be a hero but unfortunately he's a Salundra.
Ok... but what's a Salundra?
It's an infamous family, and since he belongs to this hated kin, he decided to redeems the name of Salundra. How? But performing good deeds of course!
Markus, as many other heroes before and after him, starts alone, poor and badly equipped. Oh and weak of course! So the first thing to do is (of course) fight weak enemies to get money and experience and search for quests and companions.

Yay, I became more than a hero! Pure of Souls? Ok, that's cool but this "airship" parts is what really interests me right now!

For some reasons Reedeming Legacy is the opposite of Mystic Dawn: in that game you were a respected individual that losed everything and fell in disgrace, in this adventure instead you start hated from everyone and will rise among the other men. At first merchant and innkeepers will refuse to offer their services to a Salundra, but completing quests you will unlock shops and earn some vehicles to explore the world, starting from little boat. Finding a ship and then an airship will unlock new areas with stronger opponents and new quests, until the final (really difficult) mission that will net a powerful item, the game does not end after killing the final boss and then you can still explore the world.

How is this world? Well everything is RTP and I must admit that they are used in an interesting and original way. Some maps are a bit weird, just look at some towers, others are a bit too large and empty, but I admit that there are some nice touches of class, like the village near the waterfall or the hidden underground pirate cove near the river. Unfortunately there is little to no interactivity with Npcs (this is a problem that also Mystic Dawn had especially in the later parts), except for quest givers and shopkeepers, and that's a pity due to the particular population of some locations (there's a pub run by catgirls ,and a castle packed with soldiers in training).

I shall destroy WHO????

Gameplay is very basic: combat is the classicam Rm2k style with front view rtp enemies and no battlers, characters improve their abilities getting levels but they don't learn any new skill (unlike enemies that have in some cases some kind of spell or dangerous multi-attack ability), so you just have to focus in spending money on equipment and consumables. Despite this, combat is generally balanced and until the penultimate quest you can run away from each combat rather easily. The final quest instead will put you against some really powerful foes that won't let you escape, so the only option becomes grinding, but luckily these powerful enemies also give a rather huge amount of Xp and money. This is rather bizarre because you can play 3/4 of the game without grinding and just collecting the items needed to solve the quests (except for the first unavoidable boss, that is quite easy to defeat).
Oh and there is one maze that you will hate because (I think) you just need luck to find the exit avoid being warped elsewhere. That was really cruel!

Parting words
Reedeming Legacy is a difficult game to review: it's really basic and average, but has some original qualities and ideas, like the whole "reedeming" system that unlocks various services as the game progresses. It's a clever and original idea that I've never seen before (usually you just unlock new areas with new stronger items, here instead the guy that refused to sell you items will change his mind).

In the end this is a game where cool concepts and ideas clash with old style and boring maps and (random) combat encounters. But it's not terrible, there are no bugs or issues. Except maybe a couple of typos ("interresting", "neccessary") I noticed during the final phases of the game, but uhm ok, except for the sudden difficulty spike near the end (it's my fault since I used to avoid grinding as much as possible!) there isn't much to discuss.

Adding the flaws to the good parts it becomes an average game. I can recommend this short adventure only if you are an hardcore old-tyle player, so... it will be 3/5 for me.
Now, to end this review...

I WON!!! I'm the king of the world!!!

It almost makes me want to give it the Mystic Dawn treatment and remake it using modern sensibilities. Hmm.

Well, yes M.D. was really good and this game would probably benefit from a refinement especially on the final parts of the game, I think!
