Does each block represent one map?
Yeah, an Acre. Like Acre a-1 for example.

It's a very detailed map, the trees are the green dots and it's very accurately represented. Same with the water and buildings and rocks.
I like how you named someone poepoe...as in police?

Nope thats actually a Villager's name, the names you see are the Villager's you start out with.
I often find myself lost. I find that because not every map leads the direction I want, it can be hard to navigate. I didnt know if on your map, you could add an icon for where your player was? Also why every edge didnt lead to another? If this makes any sense. Still a great game, I just struggle to get around.
Uhm well, when I did make the edges all events I got massive lag, I'm sure I could of worked some kind of Map X, teleport thingy. if you pause and unpause, you'll see your current acre in the left bottom corner, simply look that up on map, or by landmarks, it's grid, so it's pretty basic. Also you can unlock bridges at the Post office, they can help get around easier, as theres more spots to go over the river. Also to navigate to a new map simply look for the dirt path marks, they indicate a teleport.

Quite awhile ago, but the newest update addresses this issue, I took in account feedback and you were not the only one to say this. Now the map tells you where you are.
