This was a 4 hour entry, originally designed for the 4 hour contest. However, I made it BEFORE the contest begin date, so consider it a stand alone four hour game.

The town of Risres is next to the fortress of the infamous greater demon Loki's fortress. It is up to Megai, the demon hunter from the far lands, to slay Loki and fulfill his destiny. Killing all of the demons in his way, he will climb all 16 floors of the torturous Fortress. However, what will he do when he has climbed to the very top?

WARNING: This game was made in four hours and as such, has horrible level design, ruthless difficulty, odd senses of humor among other things. However, I think its soundtrack is great!

Trine and Tine- Retrospective

I am one of those developers who spends years on making systems, and then never using them. So in honor of Kylaila's review of this game, I'm going to type up this blog with eyes 3 years older then the ones that made this monstrosity.

Don't play this game with the intention of winning.

That's literally my best advice. It was made in 4 hours, and lacks every bit of depth in every sense. I never finished the redux I was working on; My laptops have a lifespan of only 1 year, what with me being a backpacker that is always changing country, as you can imagine, being homeless does not make a laptop survive for a long time(I'm in Taichung, Taiwan right now by the way! Hoping to be able to get back to Japan in a few months... But I am too broke.)

However, I will spill some trivia about this game for the curious.

Trivia:
The town is a completely flat map, with some rudimentary buildings, all in a row (Originally, I was going to use my at the time 2d tileset for this game for the town, but I never finished it.)

The NPC's advice button rolls a 1d4 and gives you a random response. At the time, I figured this would give me a little variety and amusement from the really non-existent personalities of the characters.

There is a black market shop, where more goods are sold. There was originally going to be a secondary character, but before I could add him, the time limit ran out. He was going to be a cleric that would use mace and shield, but he never got implemented.

Don't look in the well unless you want a surprise. Actually, I put the well there as a way of escaping the mundane of the game.

The OST is from Digital Devil Saga OVA and the main villain Loki is the same as him from that OVA.

There is actually a randomly assigned alignment; Good, Neutral and Chaotic, and they all 3 have a slightly different ending. Note that the ending is not worth the grind. You may be able to tell your alignment depending on the text when entering loki's tower.

Almost every floor of the dungeon is empty, all though it changes textures higher you get. The grind was designed in a way to make most people frustrated. I literally began running out of time, so I made the dungeon in a fast as possible hurry. I made the sole strategy of the game based arround debuffs, so stock up on items.

Is this game worth your time?
No, probably not. However, if you are curious about a game a person can slap together in only a few hours, well this can serve as an example. It's similar to all those bad games I used to play on GamingW before it's fall, so it should give you something to look at and find as a curio for half a hour, before you move onto something better.

There will be no remake, as I am working on a better project now, so enjoy it's 4 hour mess of a state.

I can't even describe to you how bad this sounds. You make a game in four hours that has horrible map design, ruthless difficulty, poor writing, and then expect this to be better than your previous "nightmarish" project?

I'll give it a shot.
My last project was such a failure that I refused to even release it, due to a massive coding nightmare mess up on my behalf. So yeah, this is an improvement in the fact that it is actually playable, and quickly accessible. Oh, but one thing: You can not say I did not warn you.

I really don't think you should have released this game at all, if that's ^ what I have to look forward to.
I think in the end it will on be hated on for its rushed design and gameplay.
Pretty much, but I finished it within the time slot I challenged myself to make a functional dungeon crawler in, and for that point, I achieved my goal. Besides that, this is better then about 79% of the games I played from GamingW around 2000 or so, when people claimed that rpg maker was in its fresh prime. And besides that, did you want me to lie to you about what you would be playing? I told you the blunt truth, and even posted a warning on the front. Its no epic, but it is a satisfyingly average experience to play.

EDIT: It pretty much uses the engine base for gameplay, so if people want to hate on the gameplay, let them. They would be insulting the engine that they use at the same time.

I don't want you to lie, just that there really is NO incentive for people to play a poorly made game(unless out of curiosity) when this site has like 50+ decent games to offer.

And hey, that's really cool you finished a goal for yourself, and that you made an entire dungeon crawler in 4hours, all I'm saying is that you probably won't see praise from this, only negativity.
But anywho, do what you want.
No, you are incorrect on that point. There are people like me who like to sit down and finish a poorly made game, due to the novelty of it. Even I sit down sometimes and play really poorly made creations, normally mislead by the cover however. So, its like a novelty item for people to see what can be achieved in four hours, and for that point, it serves it admirably.

Also, I never desired any praise, but if anybody is willing to give me any credit, it is how honest I am about it. Also, I do not care about negative thoughts ether, but yes, thank you, I will do whatever I desire within the legitimate boundaries.
Going to re-download this and give it another shot. I may review it.

Go ahead, but I really need to get around to making it more interesting. Please note that the dungeon will drive you crazy just due to the grinding.

I must remake this. I have to fix the final boss. Seriously, I have played this over and over, and even made it to the top floor, but the random alignments seems like a bad idea now, and I can not beat my own final boss. I think it may be a bit broken, but give it as bad of a review as you see fit! XD It was only made in four hours, and it was a bit to ambitious to make a dungeon crawler that would be fun in that time. The spiritual sequel to this is what I am working on now, but I might release a 1.2 patch to fix some of the bugs with it this weekend.
Well, happy crawling! I think I will review your puzzlesmith game once I finish it, I am enjoying it a lot.

Oh, and my points from may were pretty much just only me. Apparently not many people like really bad games like me, but you can not say I did not warn you from the very start. Good luck, Baregamer, and if you beat Zypher and send me a screen of a ending, I will make a blog post in you honor. Enjoy.

If you have plans to remake it, when will this be done? I may wait to review it until then.

Well, alright then. I'll tell you what, I'll get to work on it from right now, til either the 14th or 15th of January. You can play the bugfixed, and essentially remade version then. I'll keep the Rtp and the music though, although my opinion has changed a little on the music choice now. So, how does that sound? It won't be this original 4 hour release, but I am sure it will be a little more fun then just empty tedious dungeon after another, with only a few items here and there.
Alright, I have already started with the town. Seeing how this was a simple dungeon crawler, it is easy to work with. XD
Alright, Baregamer, it looks like I am snowed in the town over from home, so expect a slight delay in progress, okay man? My main project files are on my home comp, but I will see if I can make some progress on the project if possible... I am learning to HATE snowy days here in Tennessee. Nobody is equipped for them at all.
It's been a while. Are you still working on this? I hope so. Really looking forward to the remake.
Its near completion actually. XD I just need to finish up some more levels in the dungeon, and fix a teleport bug that keeps cropping up.

Basically, The town is finished. I used the same random dialogue system from the original, so it has a very Wastelands-esque when you ask for advice, and it reads from a list down the way and tells you a different thing each time.

Level 1 and 2 are completed, including this quest where you collect Crystal shards that are growing due to Loki's malignant energy.

Note the emphisis on fixing that teleporting bug. I swear of that did not crop up, then I would be able to finishing this in no time.

So let me get this straight - is the current downloadable version created in 4 hours? Because if so, I have the "curiosity" to play it, as InfectionFiles says. I really want to see what you've made in 4 hours, no lie! If this isn't the 4 hour version... "oh well", as I'd say.
Ahahah~ Really? Yes, I slapped together this back in the old days when I was depressed in less then 4 hours. It's basically empty floor afer empty floor, bad japanese music from the 80s and a plot that makes no real sense.
This is the 4 hour version. It's more or less worth nothing but a curious relic of my past. XD
