Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?
In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!
You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.
The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

Since I've been asked many times if I would ever make a sequel to Heartache....
Well this is not a sequel. In very many ways it's radically different. But some might find that it partially retains a bit of the same feel?
So I'm posting the first public screenshot here, and whoever is interested, look for a game page up in the next week or two with the title "Where One Citizen". Game is not complete yet, but after 10 years of development it's about time to start showing it!

I can confirm that the proxy does indeed let me view the link. Not sure why it's being blocked from my provider...
Edit: After some searching, I seem to have found the source of the problems.

It might be weird for a girl to play a game where you're dating girls, unless you're attracted to them.

As to the first question, of course! There is a selection of finished characters on this page. As for characters-in-progress, there are two threads devoted to the creation of custom content.
As to the second question, I can't really say.

For some reason I have always loved Visual Novels (especially eroge genre), even though I'm a spanish who HATES spanish-fansubs and, sometimes, reading all the time in english is kinda stressfull. For some reason I have always liked Date Simulators, even when I'm not that good playing them. For some reason I have always been attracted to Character Creation/Customization, to the point if a MMORPG doesn't have it I don't fully enjoy the game.
So how could I not enjoy this game? :) This is awesome! I tried to get Keika on my first playthough but I took too much time to get to the Pool to activate an event so I got Riho's Ending instead. :P I shall get her on my second try.
Enough of positive feedback, let's talk about some rotten fruit: the is RIGGED. D: It tends to send me to the last tile with an exact number of roll in 8 of 10 times. 4 tiles from end of board? 80% that I will roll a 4 on the dice. When I'm on the "sides of the board", when most of the time there are only 2-to-4 tiles, I get 5 and 6 like 99% of the times. And here is something funny: I roll 2, I land on arrow, goes back 2 tiles, roll 2 again, go back 2 again, roll 2 AGAIN, goes back 2 again, rolls 2 FRIGGIN' AGAIN, gets frustated and use go forward 10 item. Why do I don't never roll 2 on the sides of the board? Oh, and when I get a date: 90% chance of landing on a bug... with a 2!!!
Phew, I think you english say "I left out the steam" on this cases. Anyhow, as I mentioned I highly love Character Customization. As so, I was thinking on making a spanish girl. ;) My english narrative isn't as good as I would like so... yes, I will make a short route to her. ;) Cheers! (wait, it's 'cheers' used on these instances?)

There may be one like it in the near future.
I think (if not "adding" the content I'm speaking of) you should make another one of these games for females. I'll play, but it'll be pretty weird for me....
I'm sure that idea was on the table when this game was buzzing like crazy. Now? Not so much, I think.
You mean if there were "guy graphics" that have the same graphical consistency with the girls? Yeah, that could be a factor why nobody uses the "male" option in the customizer application. Though "not interested" seemed a more popular response to that poll.
