Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?

In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!

You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.

The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

Since I've been asked many times if I would ever make a sequel to Heartache....

Well this is not a sequel. In very many ways it's radically different. But some might find that it partially retains a bit of the same feel?

So I'm posting the first public screenshot here, and whoever is interested, look for a game page up in the next week or two with the title "Where One Citizen". Game is not complete yet, but after 10 years of development it's about time to start showing it!

There are other events like this on other routes involving the build-ins. Plenty of it.
Yeah, that, and stuff like Keika telling you to stop talking to the first years, and the Miki and Riho event at the library.

A lot of the 2 girl events seem to take place very infrequently or at random locations, though, which is annoying.
You're talking about the routes of Miki, Keika and Riho, I guess?

About those infrequent events ... when I ran into them I regarded them as a kind of "bonus scenes" ... they're something fun, something unexpected. But they're not needed if you just want to complete a certain route. And they're something which makes the original cast outshine our humble additions.

BTW: there's at least one other event involving three girls which is way harder to hit because it
requires a secret girl.

Eh, not quite, I don't think. She heavily implies it for a long time, but she didn't start referring to me as her boyfriend until she brought me to her uncle. Not sure how far along her route that is, as I haven't finished it yet.
If I recall her route correctly, that's pretty far down the road.

Maybe failing to talk to her boyfriend messed up the route? I didn't have Per high enough for that.
Failing a girl's statcheck usually means failing her route; but maybe opening an alternative route to abother girl (that much is hinted in some helpfile I think.)

I'm only aware of exactly ONE build-in route that allowas you a second chance.
With custom content it's a different story (pun intended).

I have to say, the depth of this game is just incredible. Even if Keika's route is really hard to get onto... she rarely even appears even though she was the only one I had at Lovesick, even before Akari and Hinami got to Love...
Looks like you keep missing a cue somewhere.

One basic hint (as far as I recall it's in the helpfile somewhere): If you're given a choice of answers and one starts with something like (Mind) or (Looks) this denotes a stats check. For the regular cast like your Keika, there are always four checks on any route and you have to pass them all.

And, of course, if she says something about a spot where she'll be you should check this place as soon as it's convenient.

There are certainly incomplete custom characters that exist in the OCCD. What you may want to do is look here, and see which characters have a note of "Incomplete".

Anyway, whose who make that interesting four girls party at get in that play, I have really enjoyed THAT!!!!

Well... that mood up in floor in one event is be easy understand with her end...

...the context of her wanting to sing that song (I know, I'm a terrible person) is totally different here than what it was originally. I feel like it didn't quite have the same impact, but, then again, it might not have the impact I wanted in the original either.

Most of them require you to "Disable clean mode" which means they need the build-ins to be active. Some say "Enable Junko" or similar which means you should enable - say - Junko's profile and story.

The 151 mode just gives you more time in case you feel you need it. You should be able to complete any content easily within the 101 days of the normal game.
Unless you miss out on some important part of her story, get extremely unlucky or have too many content packs enabled in one single game.

Custom content that have no requirements? You could probably refer to the OCCD blog for that. The Requirements/Notes field should indicate any characters/content that must be included for the content to function. For example, a lot of available content has a note of "Disable Clean Mode", which indicates that it interacts in some way with the built-in content.
