There is now a website you can use to share your custom content with other users! But you're still welcome to use this page to share and discuss content.

Below is a list of finished custom (user-made) content. To add these characters, in most cases you can extract the downloaded file to the game's main directory and you're set. Depending on how the author has organized them, it may be necessary to move files to the appropriate directories. (Custom content has not been tested by me)
Note: After new content has been added, old saves won't be compatible.

If you have posted custom content in this thread, I will (eventually) add your link to the list above, along with a small screenshot if you have included one. Be sure to test your content in-game before posting.

Helpful things:

--> Medium build girl, the .psd that was used to create the built-in characters, is available with layer names in English.

--> Not feeling artistic? You can use any of these images for making custom characters.

--> Notepad++ with syntax highlighting for Heartache 101 can be a big help with story creation.

--> If you are writing story content that includes the appearance of existing characters (built-in or custom), the following list may be of reference:
ID 0 = The Player
ID 1 = Nakajima Miki
ID 2 = Ikeda Keika
ID 3 = Onishi Tsubasa

^Yep, you got it.

I'm surprising myself with how much GIMP I'm learning via just fudging around. I wouldn't presume to call myself a master, but jeez! Anyway, minor update to the graphic. I tried to get all the shades of black the approximate same as the default color for the skirt. Well, how'd I do?

Only foreseeable problem is that you would have to create more stories and find a suitable boy generator. Second, it might affect the custom content that marrend has published and any content in progress.

This is very much true. I built Masako with the idea that there would only be a male protagonist. For example, the protagonist jumps (mentally anyway) when Masako mentions a "he" (As in, "She's had a boyfriend!?" rather than "I'm attracted to guys! I want to know who this guy is!") during one of her reminiscences, but not when she mentions a "she".

*Edit: I was going to mention something about GxG relations, but that's going a bit far, in my opinion.
GxB could be done in such a way that it peacefully co-exists with Marrend's and anyone else's custom content. In a GxB mode, Clean mode would always be on, so I wouldn't be making stories or characters for it myself. Just a bare-bones prologue and such.

What would the premise be though? Maybe the protagonist is a classmate of Miki's and overhears that she's having a 101-day contest with her childhood friend and decides to set a goal for herself along the same lines?

If GxB exists as a separate Mode, I don't see an issue with up and replacing the male pronouns used in the current prologue to female pronouns. As for the premise, it would be that Miki and the protagonist (still playing the role of Miki's friend since who-knows-when) somehow get into a competition to see who lands a boyfriend in 101 days, much like how the current prologue pans out. Saying that, it feels like it's been forever since I've bothered to watch the prologue...

well there IS a small issue, but i'll return to that in a second. you cant disagree that a new story mode would make the story more intresting, although i admit, having the protagonist say "what they are having a contest? im be all nosey-n-shit, and enter the contest as well!" seems a little...odd...to put it lightly.
about tihe problem i found with just replacing some of the "boys pronouns" the male opening takes place in the male student doorm, and bedroom (with the picture of some model on your wall). not only that, but he talks to hir...hira...japaneesy dude who knows everyone somhow in class. which would probably be seen as BLASTPHAMY by the teachers.

Well, the whole "your room" concept has to be re-done anyway, seeing as having a picture of a bikini-clad woman in a girl's room doesn't make much sense anyway. I guess having Girl's Room A/B/C would be the proper thing to do on that front. As for the unseen NPC's (most notably Hiro and Takuya) those names could probably be replaced by more feminine names. Like, I dunno, Sakura (Shima Sakura!) and Yuya (Honami Yuya!). I think there's a third guy that has a name, who I've temporarily forgotten, but we could use Oharu for that (Ishihara Oharu!).

Side note: Don't mind my references to people that exist only in my head.

*Edit: Masako updated! Please, let this be the last time (Yeah, right!)!

*Edit2: So much for actually testing Masako before I submit her again. Granted, I was only doing a Story Test at the time, but I got an interesting error when failing Masako's final stat-check. It reads as thus:
Script 'Story' line 262: TypeError occured.
No implicit conversion between from nil to integer

Not a total code-dump, and I know this should go into the Testing tab, but...:

STORY 14

ID = 10
Circumstances caused me to transfer to this school. Now, circumstances cause me to transfer back. Back to Matsumori High.
A: SOUL 100
# This is about where the engine seems to be having difficulty. Funny thing is, it works fine if I have the SOUL requirement (cheat codes + Story Test is a beautiful thing!).
I don't see a script error in that particular story. However, after the Soul check you would have to write the failed scenario which I don't see posted here. I'm going to check your latest Masako package see if I can find the problem.

*edit*
I don't see any scripting error. The only thing I can think of is that the game doesn't like being forced into a Soul check.

What I mean by that is that you need to present the attribute check as such:
A: (Soul) Approach Masako
B: Leave Masako alone

BRANCH A
C:SOUL 100

In a totally unrelated note, I found two typos in story 14.
Immediately after the soul check, Masako talks about the term boyfriend. The line in question is:

"since the term suggests a certain amouont intimacy"

Secondly, in branch B, the very first line says:
"I... I want you to be my girlfriend, Maskao!"

Woah! Now I'm getting that error message with failing the stat-check in STORY 10! And that one definitely worked before, and wasn't affected by the new graphics. I wonder if there's a link, as I do reference OTHER1 (her "reminisce" pose) somewhere in that sequence (though as a BRANCH, not in the main part)...
Whoops, Marrend you got in a reply while I was editing. Basically I don't know what's wrong ><. Although I did find two typos in story 14. My post above has the typo locations.

If I used a spell-checker, I would have caught the misspelling of "amount" myself, but not necessarily the misspelling of "Masako". Good eye, dude!

Anyway, as I'm still puzzling over this, I note that her profile needs to have a certain place as a GOOD LOCATION. Not as big of an issue as these error messages, but still...
Yeah that's a bug in the game. Thank you for reporting it, will be fixed in the next release. Fortunately, the bug only happens in story test mode, so players seeing your story in-game shouldn't have this problem. (But a workaround for getting it to play in story test mode is to add the following text to the end of your records file: *masako/masako_story.txt#14@3 )

Back to the question of how to implement GxB... Changing the bedroom graphic, changing pronouns, changing the font color for the protagonist, changing "Girls met" to "Boys met", adjusting some of the script for events like meeting Hiro or the Chocoloate Lady, changing the option to ask her type of guy to the option to ask his type of girl, etc is all doable, I think. What I wonder about are the things that are not easily changed because they are fundamental to the game system. Would it seem strange for a girl to be doing all the asking out on dates? (And then when the boy does ask you out he wants you to taste his cooking) Would it be strange to be giving boys beads and flowers as gifts? Would it be strange for a girl to be getting into fights in bathrooms while doing janitorial work?
I remember my girlfriend sending me this ridiculously big basket full of wine, cheese, a teddy bear and other stuffs along with flowers to my job. Needless to say I was embarrassed and endlessly teased by my co worker, but the point is, woman do give gifts such as teddy bears and flowers to guys.

About the janitor job, sure it could work. It could be like, "I'm just trying to do my job, but delinquent boys get embarrassed to see me in the boys bathroom so they try to kick me out."
Good suggestions. That just leaves the question of whether it isn't too weird for a girl to do all the asking out. And I'm open to better ideas for the premise of what the female protagonist is supposed to be doing for the 101 days. spaz wasn't too impressed with the first idea I came up with. It would be interesting to hear some female players' thoughts on all this.

I just noticed that the page lists the game as having been downloaded over 3000 times. That can't be right! It was under 1000 yesterday.

Whoa, I guess people decided to check the game out. Congratulations on over 3000 dls.

Back to business. I think some girls are very aggressive with their dating habits. It's not unthinkable a girl would make the first move. If it still doesn't feel right, maybe the girl PC could be a popular chick. Then instead of asking boys out, it will be like, "oh, I remember this boy asked me out a month ago. I should go out with him because I have 101 days to prove I'm more popular than Shihoko".

We would have the loser guy turned stud and the shallow girl who learns the real meaning of happiness?

1:its not weird at all, but this made me realise "wow the only time an NPC has asked me out was to fuck up my relationship with another character" so mabey add geting calls from girls/boys random events or even a tile on the bord (if its an event make it 1/20 chance if its freindly 1/15 chance if its like, ect.) just a suggestion

2:i would have to agree with marrend, just change it so that miki is having the contest with your female character instead of the male (although i will admit i did like the idea of having the other version of your character mentioned "OH HEY THATS ME THE LAST PLAYTHROUGH I DID! TEE HEE!")

Fortunately, the bug only happens in story test mode, so players seeing your story in-game shouldn't have this problem.

I was going to test this out (with help of the cheat codes) at some point today, but thanks for the heads-up on altering the "records" file.

I don't think it's strange for a girl to ask a guy out. I mean, what is this, a modern-day dating-sim, or Leave it to Beaver on stupid? I'll grant that it doesn't make sense for a guy to share his cooking, however, the premise of that could be some kind of required home economics class. As for a female with a part-time janitorial job, and getting into fights with delinquents, I think it works with the city vibe that the game seems to want to have. That's just how I see it, though.

*Edit: I only needed to have "*masako/masako_story.txt#10#14" in the record file to get the questionable sequences to work in Story Test. I'll still remember that work-around 'till the next release that fixes the bug. I assume the next release will be a while, as the work-around for this bug isn't all that bad?

Anyway, there's a few things I want to do to Masako before updating her for the billionth time.
Hmm, everyone is stuck on the guy cooking premise ><
I like making burgers and steaks, and there are countless male chefs in the restaurant biz.

An alternative to sharing cooking could be "hey girl I really like, I bought these awesome food stuffs at the bakery. Try the flan, it's the best in town!"

I think that retains the "manly feel" many are looking for while still being considerate (he is sharing his favorite baked goods)
Those are some good ideas. I think this just might work.
Another thing that occurred to me is that there's no reason that the alternate mode even has to take place in the same time frame. It could be that the protagonist heard the legend about some guy having a competition with some girl (Miki) the previous school year and now it's become some kind of tradition.

And I still can't believe the game got 2000+ downloads in one day. That just can't be right! I'm certain it was around 800 the day before, and there wasn't an update or anything that day. Game stats aren't supposed to triple that fast. Either the number is incorret or perhaps the game is getting prime time coverage in some corner of the internet I don't know about. Either way, it seems to have been a temporary boost or else the stat would be like 5000 today.

I wasn't intending to release again soon, but I probably shouldn't wait too long as this is a bug that those writing custom story content are likely to encounter. It happens in story test any time a conditional branch fails, and it does crash the game.

And thank you Masako for being such a good test subject for the customization features. Hopefully future users writing story content won't have to go through all the revisions with their characters that Masako has.

Seeing as Masako's the first attempt at custom content, I guess this was to be expected. Though my absolute insistence on being as perfect and precise as possible (on various points, anyway) probably had something to do with the number of times I revised the poor girl.
I got a scripting question (what else is new, right?). It's about music files. The thing is, whenever a girl pops in (as in SHOW command) the current playing audio file is replaced by the character's theme music.

What I'm looking for is some sort of way to just have my chosen audio file play without being interrupted. It looks (or sounds?) weird playing a custom tune only to have it abruptly switch when a new character enter the scene.

Any thoughts?

So, something like SCENE MUSIC, which would override any music change until otherwise specified (I'm thinking an on/off switch, but maybe it would work similar to the regular MUSIC line). Hrm. Technically, I'm behind this idea, because my quad-tech is going all over the place with music, and having one consistent song play throughout a scene is sometimes helpful. However, I also understand the logic behind having a character's theme play when that character shows up.

In any event, the work-around I'm using for the quad-tech is that all the characters involved with the scene show up at the beginning, then I set the MUSIC to whatever. Though when they leave one-by-one, or even as a group, I have to reset the MUSIC, but so far it's been generally okay.
