Hero's Sword:
A basic fantasy story where a knight and his squire set out to save an abducted princess from an evil Dark Lord. Along the way, they encounter new allies and face many foes. Who is destined to wield the legendary Hero's Sword?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game was made in four days as part of a little competition with some fellow game makers, so it isn't all that epic. That being said, the story is solid, and the game's difficulty level will definately keep you on your toes. I hope you enjoy the game!

(NOTE: There are a few hidden features within the game; try and see if you can uncover them.)

Hero's Sword to be remade over summer.

For a side project during summer, not that I have more time on my hands, I have decided to start things fresh by remaking Hero's Sword. This new rendition of the game I promise will be better than the original in many ways. This version will have better stary and character development, a new world map and more side quests than the original. This upcoming title, which shall be titled Sword Saga ch.2 : Hero's Sword (or Sword of Legend, title is pending)can be expected to be released sometime during the summer break. I'll be working hard to get this project completed and I hope you will enjoy it.

you should see the game in it's original form ... it's funny as hell and you can't even get into the town... also the game is meant to be hard so if your having trouble you should be thankful that the game is all that it should be, i mean who wants to play a game that's way too easy? all in all i have one statement to sum up your complaint ... haters gonna hate.

Dear BareGamer
I'm sorry to hear that. I did warn that the game did in fact have an intense difficulty level, but as confirmed by my testers, the game was in fact playable. That being said, I will take your input to make an "Easy mode" for Hero's Sword. I am terribly sorry that you are only accustomed to today's RPG's, and not the classics that I grew up on. I do hope that you will find more joy in playing the 'Easy Mode" patch when it is completed. Thank you for your review :D

I don't want an easy mode. I want an enjoyable mode.

The only reason the game is difficult is because there is so much of a base on luck. That is just frustrating, not challenging.

You should take a look at this article. It offers a lot of points that you and the maker of this game can learn from:

Thank you both for your input, and BareGamer, I do believe that for you, an "Easy Mode" would be enjoyable. Ratty, I respect your suggestion and I will look into it, thank you.

Good luck with future games, however poor they may be.

Say what you will. As I recall, insulting the games of others is strongly suggested against on this site, so you do sadden me...You are clearly an example of one of the many jerks who infect this otherwise wonderful site. I will strive to make more games in the future; for this was just a four day experiment to get my creativity flowing. Thank you for playing Hero's Sword, and maybe someday you'll become a better person, I sincerily hope you do...

I have to agree with BareGamer and Ratty on some points. This game is really quite difficult. I was dead after about three random encounters. You should absolutely read that article Ratty linked; it's very, very useful and the guy who wrote it knows what he's talking about. This isn't the worst first project I've ever played though, and I think with some work, especially on balance, you'll be able to make much better projects in the future.

Spend some time looking over those tutorials. You should also download other games made in VX and look at how they do things. It helped me a ton when I was starting out.

Thank you, Scourge. I understand that the game does in fact have it's flaws, and I do intend to tune the game up for future releases. I hope you will stay tuned for Blaqck Eden: My most recent project that I intend to make into an epic adventure far beyond that of Hero's Sword. I will take note of all of your suggestions to help better this game, as well as to improve my skills for my future projects.

you raise a good point, but the point was to make a difficult game also if you want a reason to keep trying at the game there is in fact a hidden character... no hints... if you really want one ask the old man

That is true ^^ It is one of of the two hidden features of Hero's Sword. Let's just say that the Lycan chief Fabian is not a required character. :D
I can't even get it to run. Not all of us have VX you know, it is important to create self-contained games.

As a game developer the download should contain ALL the necessary materials to one click install the game on a fresh install. If you cannot guarantee this, then the first screen I should see when I click on the EXE is one that tells me things I would need to have already installed for this game to work.

Even Python apps, as extremely annoying as I find them, tell me where to go in order to install Python and what to do.

It's a common mistake to include the RTP and forget that .dll, since there's no indication that you need it. The creator of this game just needs to do a system search for that file and copy+paste it into the game folder, but unless you try it on a computer without the RTP, it's not apparent that you need anything else for the game to run then the graphic/sound files.
If you still want to play the game, btw, WolfCoder, there are a million copies of it for download if you google it and it's not a big file(like 500kb I think).

EDIT: actually, looking at the file size, this isn't independent, and it uses the add-on RTP which you have to buy. Yeah, nevermind then.
I'll give it a shot, the original Dragon Warrior on the NES was the first RPG I played to completion!

Wish me luck!

Best of luck :D this is definately no Dragon Warrior, but I hope you'll like it. Fell fee to try out the Revised Version as well if the original is a little to awkward. The Revised one is currently my main download as of now.

Seems quite interesting, I'm a fan of the first person battles like dragon quest and such, so this will surely keep me entertained. ^u^
